Truffle Fries - $9.90

(Topped with garlic truffle, truffle oil, parmesan)

The truffles fries looked really underwhelming and tasted almost the same way. It had a decent amount of basil and truffle oil sprinkled on but I felt that the fries were a little too soggy!

Beer Battered Fish & Chips - $14.90

(Pacific dory, fries)

The Pacific dory was fresh and I loved the batter that they used! Just a pity that the beer battered taste was not as significant! It's quite a pity that the mains at NOM were not as delish as their rainbow cakes.

The Ultimate NOM Burger - $14.90

(NOM Minced beef patty with caramelized onions, sliced tomato, cheddar, bacon, fried egg, fries)

The minced beef patty I had was waaaaay overdone and the bread was a little stale. I felt that it was quite a disappointment, considering how they had so much potential in this dish as the marination of the beef patty was good.

Oreo Rainbow Cake - $8.90

Probably their only redemption point I guess! I have had rainbow cakes before, and I have always concluded that they were just coloring, flour and had nothing special to them (Still half true).

The ones at NOM took rainbow cakes to a whole new level. The cake batter was moist and dense, and I loved the oreo cream filling!

They even serve Speculoos Cookie Butter Rainbow Cakes (!!!!!)

Service:

The food was served to us really quickly!

Atmosphere:

NOM is located at Macpherson CC and so it was really prominent and accessible. The cafe was brightly lit and also had the miniature iconic dragon playground located indoors which was really cute. Their cafe seating mostly accommodates groups of 4, but also has outdoor seats if you wish to enjoy your food out in the open!

This chicken leg was done pretty decently and the meat pretty much fell off the bone and you wouldn't need a knife to eat this cleanly. So thumbs up for this.

I liked it better when they served full portobellos. For $9.90, this is literally one or at most two portobello mushroom caps sliced up, breaded and fried. Totally a rip off.

Being that this is my second time, I figured I knew what I wanted. But I was so wrong, the quality has dropped. I am not sure if I would be back for the rosti. Refer to my previous review in SEPT/OCT and see the pictures of the Rosti, it looks so different. I even feedbacked to the young waitress whom politely asked if I wanted the Rosti recooked, but I said, forget it, my friends had already dug into it. But even my friend who came in JB, mentioned that Marches' Rosti is so much better and even cheaper than this.

So, the newest addition to NOM is their rainbow cheesecakes which I did not see in September. It is quite solid, so I know for sure there's at least 2 blocks of phildephia cream cheese in there or more. It can be quite gerlat, so do share it, so just eat it and run 10km at the gym the next day.

I had tried their chocolate and oreo rainbow cakes before and this was my first time trying their salted caramel cake. Everyone really liked the salted caramel rainbow cake
And some of my friends mentioned that they would be back to try other cakes, definitely not the Rosti though.

I'm glad that NOM is sensible enough to price this rainbow cheesecake at $7.90, one dollar less than the rainbow cake itself. Being that I do bake cakes, I also know well that a rainbow cheesecake takes ALOT less time to make than a normal rainbow buttercream/sponge cake.

The best upside to NOM is that it is nett priced, but I believe their prices seem to be going up some dumb reason.

Bought two pieces of different flavour for grams to try.And I must say the chocolate version is a huge let down. It doesnt taste any bit spectacular, in fact mediocre at best.It didn't bring out the sweetness from the sponge cake and it lacks that fragrance from the caramel and white cream - salted caramel version. In fact I think choc didn't make the sponge stand out, sponge taste normal, a little dense.Overall caramel clear winner

Love the chill ambience at NOM Bistro & Bakery. The interior is brightly lit by natural lighting from the floor to ceiling glass panelled wall, with bright lime green colours lending a splash of vibrance. Retro style metal grilles cut through the spacious area, while furniture is modern minimalist style. There is a small children's play area for families, but it can get noisy when there actually are kids running around here.

Staff are NOM Bistro & Bakery are addressed as 'Nomsters', a play on 'Monsters'. I find them friendly and welcoming, proactive in opening doors and seating guests. While they take and fulfill orders relatively quickly, peak periods can see them slightly ovewhelmed, and service tends to slow down as such. But they're rather efficient are clearing dirty tables, as well as knowledgable on the menu.

NOM Bistro & Bakery offers American style food, most of them classic American dishes. I find taste to be rather good for their mains. However, they are more well known for their desserts and appetizers, in particular, their famous Rainbow Cakes and Truffle Parmesan Fries. Portions are generally big for 1 person, and prices are standard cafe pricing, budget about SGD $22 or more per person for a meal.

The trendy Japanese Beer Kirin Ichiban Frozen (SGD $9.90) is so cute and precious in the tiny glass! This golden coloured brew with a crisp, refreshing, smooth full bodied flavour is topped with a unique -5 degrees celsius frozen foam that is smooth, and keeps the beer cool for up to 30 minutes, without the use of ice!

The African Red Chocolate (SGD $3.90) differs from the typical hot chocolate you usually get at cafes. While thin in texture, it has an intense taste of chocolate, at once both deep and slightly floral, with hints of fruity notes such as plum or cherry. Overall, this West African hot chocolate is above average, I quite like it!

Love the Truffle Parmesan Fries (SGD $5.90), which were served piping hot! Thick cut slices, with good potato taste, sprinkled with finely grated parmesan cheese, and drizzled with just a hint of truffle essence, not too overwhelming. Excellent!

Each ingredient of the Breakfast Rosti (SGD $14.90) was cooked perfectly, with a smooth, crisp bed of rosti potatoes, a perfect happy sunny side up egg, smoky rashers of bacon, a fresh garden salad, and a meaty, chessy, chicken cheese snail sausage. However, the overall dish was very oily.

I prefer their Salted Caramel Rainbow Cake (SGD $7.90), which I feel is the best flavour amongst the Rainbow Cakes offered here. The sweet vanilla flavour of the cake is cut through by the salty, sweet, sticky caramel sauce drizzled over the top, lending a nice balance. Go for this instead!

We got to NOM at 12pm and we were the first customers there. The waiter was quick and gave us the menu and iced water within a few minutes of us getting seated.

My colleagues tried the fish and chips, which was a giant beer battered fish. They claimed that they could taste a tinge of beer in the batter. The appetizers of breaded mushroom wasn't too bad, but there were only like 7 pieces. Each time you bit into the breaded mushroom, you could taste the oil.
Def not my fav breaded mushrom of all times. We also had the parmesan truffle fries, which were okay. for $6.90 I guess it isn't too bad.

I got the banger rosti as my main, and though the rosti was crispy, it was quiet thin. It was thinner than expected. But it still tasted decent. The cheese sausage was super juicy with cheese sauce

For dessert, we had both the oreo and the chocolate rainbow cakes. Which at a price of $7.90 is quiet heavy. But the oreo was so awesome and tasty. Same with the chocolate. Reminded me of awfully chocolate cake, that I just had for breakfast this morning.

I would def come back to try more of their rainbow cakes, especially the salted caramel and more of their dishes for sure!

It is from Gryphon Tea and served in a teabag form. Tastes light and refreshing.

Overall the food is not bad. But the place is quite noisy. I have to shout to talk to my partner. Nice place too.

Beside having a nice environment, it’s important to have reasonably priced food that matches its quality which I believe NOM has achieve it. Though their pricing might not be one of the cheapest among some of the cafes, but at least i feel like what I had spent is worthwhile. & it serves not only brunch but also some other mains like pizza, burgers, western style. Good variety I would say.

We’re quite spoilt for choices actually, but decided on the following: Root beer float, Cheesy Chicken Sausage ($11.90), Crispy Beer Battered Fish Burger ($11.90), Classic Egg Benedict ($9.90), Breakfast Rosti ($14.90) and ended our meal with Rainbow Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake and Churros ($7.90). Cheesy Chicken Sausage Pizza is not too bad. Although its like a thin crust pizza, but its more like a biscuit crust. Crisp and a little hard crackling. HAHAH, what a way to describe. but yea, you get what i mean. Its like french canape, where they have savoury fillings on crisps. Classic Egg Benedict, is quite average, not one of the best that I’ve tried before. I think I’m too used to having Benedict with smoked salmon, so when I tried a mouth with the ham, the overall taste is quite light in comparison.

& finally, here’s my Breakfast Rosti. So far it’s the first I had and saw that cafe brunch menu has something with Rosti! It’s one of the few. The other cafe I know of is “The Book Cafe” which has some brunch items with rosti too. But anyway, the point is, its yummy! Rosti with bacon, cheesy sausage and sunny side up! Totally like how the rosti is done, crisp on the outer and soft in the inner. Totally a good replacement of the usual muffin, brioche etc.

What’s a complete meal without dessert right? Churros here come with 2 dipping sauce – chocolate and caramel. Their rainbow cake come with a few flavours for their layering. There’s like chocolate, oreo and i cant rem :/ Dont the chocolate peanut cake looks devilish? All these sinful sweet treats. Moist flavourful cake they have there. All in all, its quite a nice place to dine at except that, they may be a lil short-handed. Hard to get the attention of their staff for things like re-filling of water etc once you’re done ordering. They do not have a corner with the water jugs and stuff for us to help ourselves to it too. But other than that, their food especially the breakfast rosti is worth a try!

Alfresco dining greeted us on top of stairs prior to entering the entrance. It was very spacious among tables.

The cool lime settings immediately caught our attention, very refreshing & pleasingly eased our tensioned mind again with very spacious seating.
We later found out that there was readily slope access from the Club's main entrance to the restaurant for wheelchair users - Niceee...

Service staff is attentive, polite, patience & truly sincere to serve us.

Noticed that cakes were not in the Menu, we were told that it's a daily impromptu surprise from the bakery. Hmm... I liked the suspense & the adventurous feeling as I walked over to the display counter. Guess what? I found the famed Rainbow Cake (from Yesterdae)!

It's a pity that we had a heavy breakfast before, else we would also try their Smoked Salmon Cobb Salad ($8.90), Beer Drunken Mussels ($9.90), Hand-Rolled Thin Crust Pizzas ($9.90 - $16.90), their famous Shephard's Pie ($6.90), Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($12.90)

We spent $24.93 (instead of $27.70) with No Service Charge & No GST...!
It's so nice of the cashier to inform us of the Passion Card discount (10% off every item in the bill).

Verdict:
Beware...we will definitely be back for more!
