Katong I12 previously known as Katong Mall to some of us 80s/90s people has upgraded their carpark and there's usually many lots there (except weekends) , make sure you enter by East Coast Road, and not the TGIF side, the guards will re-route you or tell you no entry. There's a nice, quiet and clean bakery in Katong 112 where there's a trade mark fish tank which you can gaze into. We ordered a Cookies and Cream Cheese Cake. The cake was nice and creamy, the chocolate pieces on top was a nice touch. It definitely hit the spot after a nice savoury meal. The staff are very friendly and helpful! continue reading

Macaroons are such sweet lovely treats that one would not get tired of(at least i do not!)Tried the raspberry chocolate macaroons that were not too bad but i felt that the macaroon shells were a little soggy and not as crispy as they should have been. the yuzu flavoured macaroon has a unique taste to it and i love the tanginess of the yuzu that was sandwiched between the macaroon shells. continue reading

One of the better cake shops with a wide variety of flavours; they constantly come up with new creations as well, which is great for regular patrons like myself. Green tea cheesecake is good, rich in taste of cheese, but not overly so that one would find it too "jelat" after a few mouthfuls. Passionfruit mango cheesecake is one of the first original flavours, and worth a try. continue reading

I have always loved coming to Katong Mall on weekdays as the cafe's appear to be pretty empty compared to most places. I stumbled upon Obolo that faithful day. "Obolo" actually means "The Cake" in portuguese. I was attracted by the stunning array of colors from the french styled macaroons that were positioned on the shelves. They all looked so yummy!! I could not resist but get myself a couple. I was then told by staff that it would be cheaper to get a small box which contained 6 macaroons. As I was spoilt for choice. The patient staff introduced me to each flavor and made some helpful recommendations. Some of which included Rose, Aged Rum Vanille, Green Tea, Strawberry, Lemon among others. The Macaroons had a nice outer shell which was moist yet tough (unlike most that crumble upon being touched), it had a very nice creamy center which made it perfect as a snack or a dessert for those who want to go light. It comes in a cute little semi transparent box and a paper bag.The cafe also appears to be perfect for tea time as they have an array of teas, cakes and cookies. Look forward to dining here again soon while trying out the other goodies continue reading

I was down at 112 Katong last weekend to check out the new shopping mall in the east. Located at the basement of the mall is Obolo which means "the cake" in Portuguese. Obolo is behind the inspiring story of 2 architecture graduates Mac Woo & June Lee baking from homes to forming an online patisserie specializing in gourmet cheesecakes and chocolate cakes. As the flagship patisserie cafe under Obolo’s repertoire of F&B lifestyle concepts, Obolo features a 44-seater open-concept cafe space and an impressive 8-feet showcase housing the best cakes and pastries that Obolo offers.Obolo serves an array of gourmet fine tea from Gryphon Tea Company which are a good complement to their lovely dessert. I had the Sakura Flower Tea which is a green tea that is light and refreshing with a little bitter after taste. If you can't decide what to order from the myriad of mouth watering fine cakes, pastries and desserts that fills up the entire showcase, the All Day Dessert Platter comes with the choice of 1 slice of cake/tart, 2 macarons and 1 scoop of ice cream at $14.90++.For their widely acclaimed french styled macarons, I had the Salted Caramel Chocolate and Fraise macarons. The macarons were well executed with a good balance of sweetness and the shells were moist. The waitress recommends us to their signature mousse cake, Noisette. The waitress told us that it was voted as top 50 cakes by Strait Times and Top 10 chocolate cakes by OMY.com. A good recommendation by the waitress. It is beautifully executed, moist with a good balance of sweetness too. continue reading
