This place is like a museum of old and memorable stuff. The owner seems to like collecting old clocks, signs etc and proudly displays them in the shop. Even the table is converted from an old sewing machine!I wouldn't call this place exactly romantic for a place to have a nice cuppa as I feel that too much of these antiques make the place looks a tad messy somewhat. I like things clean and tidy in general but that's just me. However, the owners are very sweet and charming, so it makes this place special somewhat with the human factor.Food wise, recommended is the Coconut Kueh with French Vanilla Ice Cream ($6.50) which we tried. We loved the coconut taste and it is served hot. The taste is good and we live it. However, it seems to be microwaved hot and I am not a fan of microwave too. We did not have time to try the rest of the food here as we just had a heavy dinner. Next time we are nearby, we might just drop in again to taste other specials. continue reading

Old habits cafe is one of the new addition to the list of existing cafes few months back. A vintage themed cafe filled with antiques housed within the telok blangah rise estates. The best thing is, every thing you see in the cafe is for sale! So if any antique caught your eyes, feel free to approach the owner! Here’s a few among all the decorations belonging to the older era in the cafe. Vintage clocks for displays, old cassettes and records within the glass showcase on top of these olden sewing table as part of the furniture. 3D view master of scenes from famous attractions or themes from different countries available for viewing while waiting for your food to be served. Also, the walls are filled with old school signage and posters.Old habits focuses mainly on their coffee, tea and desserts selections, but they do have a few mains and finger food too. They have quite a couple of unique tea selections. Price range are pretty reasonable, with coffees and teas from around $3-$6, mains at around $12, sides at around $4-$7 and desserts starting from $3.50.We followed the recommendations of the owner and tried some more unique and uncommon tea.Azteca d’Oro: Organic south african bush tea with madagascan cacao and caramel. It started with a subtle roasted flavour and ends with a rich creamy chocolate note for the aftertaste.Mogambo: Organic south african bush tea with passion fruit and apple. Of moderate acidity with a fruity note.Creamy homemade mushroon soup ($5.50): Well blended soup with bits of wild mushroom. Rich in taste too.Crispy hot and spicy drumlets ($7): Coated with a blend of pepper and spices. My sis says it tasted like the commercial CP Drumlets though. I do agree it do not taste like own creation but more of frozen products.Jessy’s Spicy Casserole ($12.50): Diced Maryland Chicken in Spiced sauce topped with homemade mashed potatoes. Nothing fanciful. Minimal of diced chicken could be tasted, more of eating mashed potatoes with sauce.Portobello Mushroom Sandwich ($13.50): Juicy portobello with toast served with fries and greens. A very simple and light dish.Food is pretty mediocre but the owner is really friendly and welcoming. He briefly introduces his cafe concept to us and recommend some of the specialty. A good place for some chill out for residents staying near by, but guess not worth making a special trip down unless you are one antique lover! For full review with pics http://poohlovesfood.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/old-habits-cafe/ continue reading
