Old town white coffee is actually originated from Malaysia. One of their signature dish includes their speciality nasi lemak as well as their coffee. As for the cracker, it has a bland taste but goes quite well with the rice. However, the Ikan Bills is quite salty as compared to other nasi lemak stall while the peanut has a nice roasted taste. The chili sauce is not too spicy which I expect and is quite oily as well. Price wise is still affordable, but the quality of the food can still be improved further.

Some of the my nostalgic favourites are found in Old Town White Coffee. Signature dishes are plastered on top of the counter if you don't have any clue on what to order. If you're looking for privacy, Old Town White Coffee is not the one for you. With tables and chairs really close to each other, it is easy to listen to a stranger's conversation even if you don't want to.

Curry Chicken Noodles - SGD5.80
Rich and thick in curry, it almost taste like laksa only that the noodles and chicken are different. One can easily peel off the fatty skin from the chicken... the noodles was thick and delicious! The curry had a sweet twist to it and the aroma of the coconut oil used was extremely fragrant, causing me to have a really good appetite and gobble down the bowl of curry chicken noodles.

However, it was a little too oily and I wish they have drained the oil that was on the surface!

Asam Laksa -SGD5.80
It was a disappointing bowl as the broth tasted too diluted. Even though it is very spicy, there was no fragrance coming out of it. The prawns were freshly peeled but too little in portion.. and the noodles looked 'dead' as they hang lifelessly on my chopsticks. This isn't recommended.

Prawn rolls - SGD4.50
These 5 pieces of prawn rolls were deep fried and probably made in-house. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Sink your teeth into this crispy roll and you will definitely fall in love with it.. I would recommend this as an after-meal fix instead of a starter because it made me feel like I finished my meal with a bang!

Old Town White Coffee sells really awesome coffee and tea that are extremely thick and strong. Costing only $2.50 (Cold), $2.20 (Hot) respectively, I ordered the Yuan Yang (both hot and cold). I would recommend the cold one as it felt like there was more liquid as compared to the hot one.

Things to NOTE for OpenRicers
1. Make your order and payment at the counter as there will not be any waitress to serve you.
2. Try to sit near the entrance as the window seat is quite warm (too near the kitchen). If you're afraid of cold, then go ahead and sit at the innermost parts of the restaurant.
3. The loo is right outside the restaurant (near the NTUC Fairprice Xtra), so it is very convenient.
4. The stools are quite uncomfortable to sit on.. so if you're having long heart-to-heart conversations with friends, this may not be a very comfortable place to go to!
5. Do bring along a packet of wet tissue as the cutlery is placed on the table. There are too many people not washing their hands after visiting the loo nowadays!

The Nasi Lemak had fried chicken wings, peanuts, ikan bilis, crackers and a half egg. I wonder why they did not give a whole egg.

The chicken wing was hot and crispy on the outside. The chicken meat was slightly dry though.

The sambal chilli was nice with some onions and ikan bilis, tasted sweet and spicy.

The rice was quite disappointing. The rice looked full of coconut milk, but the taste was none of coconut milk, not even the aroma. It just tasted like normal plain oily rice lump together.

I was looking for a place to have teabreak so I decided to drop by Old Town. The food here is steeper than similar places such as toast box.etc and they have a larger variety of food items on the menu. I got an iced enriched chocolate drink for $3.30. The chocolate was rich enough and did not taste diluted. It was quite nice, except that there was too much ice. The Old Town French Toast $4.50 was really yummy too maybe because I really love french toast. The butter provided was too little though

The toast here is pretty good. It's really crisp on the outside and still a little soft on the inside. The kaya used has a nice coconut flavour with lots of pandan taste. The kaya is just sweet enough and pairs really well with the toast pieces. However the toast was slightly burnt on the day that I bought my toast! So this added a slight bitter taste which was quite unpleasant. Hope this was a one off experience.

We ordered a Nanyang-C that was just a normal cold cup of coffee that costs $3.20. Could use abit more sugar though, or maybe we didn’t stir properly. OTWC's curry set looks very scrumptious. It has cucumbers, and this cucumber-pineapple-sour-spicy salad and some crackers. Generous amount of 2 chickens parts (thighs probably) and 1-2 potatoes. The asam laksa was quite plain though, noodles with cucumber slices and sardines but nevertheless it's still very good! It's so hard to find nice asam laksa in singapore though.

Wanted to order kaya toast but wrote the number wrongly and ended up with steamed bread with peanut butter and butter. Quite unique to have your bread served in a basket!

With mint leaves and a small miserable piece of sardines and cut onions on the top among the pool of diluted Assam paste.

Drinks are a let-down and a simply disastrous especially the chendol soya milk. The green jelly like substance tastes like a reminiscent of dried rubber-band. Both drinks are tasteless. Ice blended red bean in my impression wasnt this bad afterall! The overall reputation points of OldTown has been pulled down by this outlet.

Service
Service is of average and waiting time is not that long.

Ambience
Ambience is so-so. No long queues and now I know why.

Price
Over all 4 items cost an approximate amount of S$30.00 for 2 pax. Price is definitely not ok with the standard of food. O

Recommendation / Tips
Quite surprised to see them accepting CASH and NETS payment only.

Coconut flavoured rice with the sambal chilli, aromatic curry chicken and egg is a perfect treat for the taste buds. Love the chilli here at old town as cuttlefish can be found inside the chilli and the chilli is really aromatic and the level of spiceness is not too bad-tolerable even for those who are afraid of the spiceness. Set meals are quite worth the money.

The javanese mee, an resemblance of the malay's dish, Mee Rebus was placed on the table after sometime. I was like "whao", impressed by the varieties of toppings on my mee. Printed on the receipt as Set Lunch for $9.50 that comes with a drink. I was curious that why set lunch is still available for dinner. The big difference between Javanese Mee and singapore's usual mee rebus is more on the gravy that mixed with the mee. Javanese Mee's gravy are more towards a lighter side and doesnt taste as gluely as Mee Rebus.

My Javanese mee set comes with a handful portion of sambal cuttlefish, fresh and proportionally cut. Ikan Billis are found in the sambal as well. Tau pok were cripsy and seems to be toasted. Although the term "sambal" may sounds spicy, i had confirmed that it is not hot at all.

The chong pang nasi lemak which I had in Jurong Point yesterday turns out to be a disaster. Well... at least Old Town's is better but still, a disappointment. Condiments were almost identical to Javanese Mee, consisting of sambal cuttlefish, half hard boil egg, few pieces of crackers.

Nasi does not have much fragrance of lemak smell and worst the drumstick is a total disappointment. Overcooked of chicken meat has spoilt the dish. Damage: $10.50. for a set meal.

Old Town? Perhaps I would reconsider.
With the kind of pricing, I can get a better and quality serving elsewhere.

Chendol on a hot day is a great thirst quencher. It is one of my favourite desserts too as the gula meleka and the red beans are too good to resist. Overall, this chendol is okay as the shaved ice is too icy and not "soft" enough. The portion size is perfect for an individual and i especially love the red beans!! The shaved ice is also really nice with the sweet gula meleka. The green jelly adds a nice texture to the chendol.

I ordered the normal size of the rendang nasi lemak. they also have the supreme version was a lot bigger and had more rice. Unless I am very hungry, i will just order the normal size. Their rendang chicken is really good. though the drumstick is not very huge but it was juicy and tasty. the rendang sauce was not too spicy as well. the rice of the nasi lemak was very fragrance. it was good perfectly. the sambal chilli was good too.

I was so hungry after a day of sports, so I headed to Old Town White Coffee to order myself a supreme nasi lemak, not the normal size but the large size. I must say the portion is just right for a very hungry me. I like the sambal chilli, it is not too spicy and pretty sweet. it goes well with the rice. the rice has the aromatic fragrance, it is cooked perfectly, not too soft or hard. Their chicken is really tender. I like their koropok too, goes well with the sambal.
