The cafe has both alfresco and indoor seating, and the indoor seating has a bar top counter overlooking the main pathway so one can people watch. The lighting isn't too dim nor is it excessively bright so its really comfortable to chill.

We ordered Chicken Quesadillas, Bangers & Mash (both $18 each) as well as a Caffe Latte ($5.50).

The Chicken Quesadilla was complemented with potato wedges, salsa and a lovely salad (with balsamic vinegar dressing). The quesadilla was delicious -not too salty, and the cheese was still stringy. The grilled chicken had enough flavour and the the pocket was lightly toasted -delicious! My dining companion preferred it slightly more seasoned though, but in my opinion it wasnt overly salty. The wedges were crisp on the outside, yet the potato was so fluffy and soft. Eaten with the salsa, which had bits of diced tomatoes and onions, the taste was absolutely perfect! The salsa wasn't overly sour, great for those who are adverse to super-tangy sauces.

The Bangers & Mash were slightly more disappointing. While the pork sausages had a delicious herb-y fragrance, its flavour fell a bit flat. I exceptionally liked the mash and gravy, which went deliciously together (I COULD HAVE IT ALONE!). The mash was slightly sweet on its own, and its oh-so-fluffy texture wasn't overly whipped such that it had lost its original potato texture. I also liked the onion gravy -it wasn't too thick and starchy and had a pleasant savouriness. I wish there was more gravy though!

ps. another grouse -my dining companion also felt that 3 sausages instead of 2 would have given him a better run for his money!

This Latte is honestly one of the best lattes I've ever drunk!! The milk is steamed to perfection and the coffee goes down wonderfully smoothly. You can add your own sugar and customise the sweetness and i find that 1.5 sugars work perfectly for me. This small cup is really worth $5.50 -the taste is just gorgeous. Not too bitter nor acidic and the temperature + flavours all harmonised

Oriole also has standard happy hours for drinks, as well as tea time promos such as waffles + ice cream & tea for $12-13. The service is earnest and the food is delicious too -will definitely be back. If you're here for desserts, we recommend the peanut butter crumble -its the ultimate sin in a cup!! Sticky date pudding is strong on the rum so if you're adverse to alcohol, steer clear of their rendition of this dish!

The coffee is surprisingly, stellar. Go for their latte, and anything with steamed milk. I promise you won't regret it.

Then there are some I've tried, just couldn't steal my heart. I'm guessing they are just not my cup of coffee. No offense but it's just a matter of preference.

One such place that did manage to steal my heart and make me coming for more caffeine fix would surely have to be Oriole Cafe with their flagship store located just beside 313 Somerset. The drink's pretty universal; Long Black, Mocha, Latte or Americano. Trust me, the drinks are far from your ordinal cafes. If having award winning baristas brewing your coffee isn't enough to make you excited, then I hope the single-shot Cappuccino ($5.50) would be your saving grace.

I may not be a true coffee connoisseur but I do know of differ-shading a good cuppa from a not so good one and more importantly, appreciating the hard labor that went into my petite drink and the profound heart shape cast upon my milky foam.

My lunch partner went for the set lunch offer and she got herself Spaghetti Carbonara, which was appeared to be pasta tossed in bacon and parmesan cheese. It was rich and creamy if not very salty too. My lunch partner couldn't be bothered finishing the whole plate. Not worth causing her kidneys to fail I guess?

I graciously accepted my partner's offer to have her appetizer, Crab Meat Bruschetta which was prefectly executed but nothing really amazing in terms of taste.

We gave dessert a miss for my lunch partner has severe allergy to all things alcoholic and I didn't want her to go back home and wake up the next day with rashes all over her body. That would be bad right? Besides, I could always make a trip down myself, alone or with company. The two of us ended somewhere else for desserts instead but that would be another post by itself.

The set lunch was nothing out of this world and much less good to begin with but the coffee by itself is more than enough to set my foot upon Somerset just spending time with me and my cup of coffee. I have also long heard about their famous Fish and Chips but somehow, I never gave as much attention to the fried batter of fillets and hand-cut chips but I'm sure there's always a next time, surely with a good cup of coffee with me...

This was the only hit for me, an ordinary-looking dish of scrambled eggs that tasted extraordinarily good! I started my gastronomic experience from the toast, where it was finely baked, slightly crisp on the outside and also tasted a little on the sweet side. It reminded me of a very well toasted version of the famous 'fa-bao' at Whampoa Drive.

The magic came as I was surprised by the strong truffle taste infused in the scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were slightly on the creamy side, and were very smooth. Every mouthful had a rich flavour of truffle that bursts in your mouth, adding the extra twist to the otherwise boring scrambled eggs. The generous serving of cured ham also complemented the dish very well with its savory taste topped with more truffle spread. This would be one dish that I'd return for!

This was well, classic. The poached eggs were quite well done but it was abit cold for my liking. The hollandaise sauce was also abit sourish, and wasn't exactly the type that I was expecting. Plus point though, I liked the thick slice of honey-baked ham that went with the egg. It substituted the usual bacon, which explains the lack of that extra crisp for this dish, but felt a little less sinful. It was an okay dish, thought you can easily find better ones elsewhere.

A slightly more unique version compared to the usual Eggs Royale that I can find, it replaces the usual cold smoked salmon with the hot version. It is less moist as compared to the usual cold smoked salmon, but I thought it was a better rendition with the complementing textures.

This is listed under their competition coffee so I reckoned that it's a tad more unique than the other coffees you get. Coffee art never fails to amaze me, and this has successfully won me over. It was rich and creamy, with a strong fragrance and I liked the rather subtle refreshing citrus zest. Then again, I'm no coffee expert so to put it simply, I liked this blend.

This is another one of their competition coffee. It comes with a cinnamon stick that's used as a stirrer so it adds a touch of cinnamon to the coffee. I didn't really taste the 'spice' from the chilli, but the fragrance of the cinnamon added a really fine touch to it. It was quite an acidic cup of coffee I thought.

Another one that I liked but forgot a picture of, is their iced mocha. Unlike usual coffee stops, the chocolate in it wasn't overpowering and there was still a strong coffee flavour. It was fragrant and smooth, and the chocolate added a sweet touch to it. Very nicely done!

It's quite a good place to chillout, having a chat over coffee in the afternoon and having live band at night. It would have been better though, if service staff didn't clear our tables so quickly that it seemed as though they were chasing us away. I'd definitely return for the scrambled eggs and their iced mocha again!

Prawn lovers will absolutely love how the prawn flavour is infused into this dish. The smell of prawn is inescapable as you chew on each grain of rice. The prawns served were also huge and crunchy, making this dish really enjoyable. The serving is a little small though, but I guess that's the usual for a risotto dish.

Another one that I fancied was their Chocolate mint coffee. This coffee got antioxidants because of chocolate. You get energized because of coffee. Plus the greens in the coffee gives you a great boost which are mint leaves.

It's quite a good place to chillout. Definitely coming back for more.

Chocolate Fudge Cake. Rich chocolate cake here which you should share with a friend. I think there should be more of the strawberry/raspberry sauce to help balance the "ge lat - ness" of the chocolate cake.

Philly steak & Cheese (beef striploin, onions, peppers, swiss cheese, baguette). I must say I was really disappointed with the baguette/bread. It felt alot more like the regular buns for hotdogs at IKEA. Thank heavens the cheese and strip loin were made up for it. Cheese could have been melted more.

Good coffee. Ok food. Or maybe I should try one more time.

Dessert #2 was the Sticky Pudding ($9). Sticky Pudding (sometimes Sticky Date Pudding) is usually very average, nothing special, you know, bleah. But this one was really fantastic. What set it apart from other versions was the generous amount of rum that covered entire plate. Every spoonful of sweet treacle pudding with raisins and vanilla ice cream had loads of rum in it and boy, that rum was some hard stuff. Yet another shot to the head! I'm definitely coming back just for this.

I popped by their HQ outlet wedged between 313 Somerset and Pan Pac Service Apartments, the small outdoor street outside 313 Somerset where you can find many other al-fresco dining places and watering holes. This is no Starbucks; it is a cafe and bar which also serves main courses, finger food and alcohol and it’s a nice place to catch up with friends or just watch the world outside go by. This is also not a self service joint, so prices are subject to additional service charge and GST.

This is part of their 3Cs menu- Bernini at Sea ($10.50++). It is a brownie served with a macadamia sea salt ice cream garnished with caramel sauce and a shot of Baileys. The brownie is not bad- it has a nice crusty, crunchy, almost cookie like texture that isn’t too dry. Pairs very well with the fabulous macadamia sea salt ice cream which contains lots of crushed macadamia bits and biscuit crumbs. I wasn’t sure what the shot of Baileys was for actually, and I speculated it could be an after dessert drink included to justify the $10 price tag or to satisfy alcoholics. I actually had both brownie and alcohol separately and thought the brownie dish could do without the extra shot of Baileys. But you’re supposed to POUR IT OVER the brownie! Absolutely DUH right? Wished the service staff had told me how to enjoy this dish properly.

Oriole is also famous for its blend of coffee and I had their Piccolo Latte ($5.80++) from their regular menu. So here is a mini crash course on coffee: Cafe Macchiato is espresso with small amount of milk. Cafe Latte is espresso with lots of milk. Piccolo Latte is somewhere in between, where 1 part steamed milk (or more) is mixed into 1 part espresso, perfect for anyone who wants a balance of coffee and milk flavours. I favour this concoction as I was able to detect the fragrant coffee notes which were not overwhelmingly diluted by milk. I should have asked them to serve the coffee after the dessert as the coffee is best enjoyed when it’s freshly brewed, not after it’s left to cool while I attacked the dessert.

There something for everyone here. Satisfy your inner alcoholic/coffee-holic/chocoholic/sugar junkie with their 3C menu. Coffee is definitely the main draw of this place and with so much care that goes into the preparation and presentation of coffee here, it serves up one of the best cups of coffee in SG.
