I finally tried this out! Luckily there was no queue. Overall, my favourite is still Sxxg Fx. The Rou Gu Cha in Outram Park is okay but portion is smaller and more expensive. Need to be patient on waiting time.我還是比較喜歡松x的肉骨茶。歐南園的肉骨茶份量較少價錢也較貴。客人坐下之後會送一碟油條和每人會有一片收費的酒精濕紙巾大家要有耐性等候食物喔~ continue reading

Bak Kut Teh for late dinner!Chose this restaurant because it opens till past midnight! To be honest, I have no idea what to expect because I have never really eaten Bak Kut Teh in Singapore before so this was my first time! Fragrant soup with just the right amount of peppery taste (I cannot stand strong peppery taste one). But after the refills which were free, the peppery taste kind of got to me. :/And I actually ate all the meat by myself, the meat was tender and salty, it absorbed the soup taste... MMMM.Love the salted vegetables and youtiao too! ^^I thought the meesua was a little bland, would definitely order rice instead of meesua next time! continue reading

Yes! Finally tried the BKT! I have always drive pass this place and had it skipped somehow. Ya Hua's menu was hanging at every column in the shop and I find it rather different. The ordering slip is also available under the menu in the container mounted on the wall. Customers have to select and indicate their order on the 5 pieces carbon copy of ordering slip.Dough Stick (You Tiao), large costing S$2.00 was placed onto our table before our order. Tastes abit doughy and is a dish that cannot be missed for my Bah Kut Teh Meal. Liver / Kidney Soup, the kidney was so soft that one bite you have it melt onto your tongue but... I do not like the urea smell within the piece kidney that was cut proportionally into square patterns on it. Liver was thinly sliced and tastes great, best part is that it doesn't stinks as much as the kidney. Cost: S$7.00Mee Sua, my alternative to a bowl of white rice that costs us S$1.50. Serving was quite little like having a kid size meal. However, the mee sua tastes good with Chinese parsley and onion oil.Cost: S$2.00 Spare Ribs Soup, before commenting on the standard of BKT, we started with tasting the soup as we believe the essence are in there. Like any "white" bak kut teh, most of their soup are peppery. I must admit I will prefer the "black" hokkien version instead of the "white" cantonese version.Soup was filled only to one quarter of the bowl with 2 miserable pieces of spare ribs. The portion we received were not very lean and quite fatty.Cost: S$7.00Sliced Pork Loin are very chewy, tender and smooth drenched in the bowl of peppery soup similar to the soup of all dishes. Nice!Cost: S$6.00Pig Intestine are well braised and not that oily. No foul smell was observed.Cost: S$7.00Our late dinner for the night. A guy will be walking around to refill the soup. It was hard to grab attention of the service ladies though, we were waving for quite sometimes before she comes to us. Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha occupied has alot of seatings and those with blue table tops are for smoking zones. The total damage of the night that cost about S$19 per pax including drinks and towels. Overall, I find that this place is overpriced and overrated. For a similar pricing, we are able to get something bigger portion and better elsewhere. continue reading

We ordered spare ribs soup, pig's kidney soup and beancurd. The soup base was too peppery and overpowering. I love peppery bak kut teh soup but this was really too peppery for my liking, almost like those powdered packet bak kut teh where you can simply find in supermarkets. The BKT soup also lacks the BKT fragrance and tasted bland in a diluted way. In all, I felt like I was drinking a diluted and peppery wannabe BKT soup. The meat of the spare ribs were not tender as well.Gave it 3 stars because it still tastes better than the average BKTs, but one of the bests? Probably not.For full review complete with photos, do check out:http://rachelays.blogspot.sg/2013/01/ya-hua-bak-kut-teh.html continue reading

What is your first meal for the year 2013? Ours was a Bak Kut Teh meal at Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha. As we drove into the carpark around noon on New Year Day, it seemed that most of the shops and even the coffeshops next to it were all closed. Surprisingly, after we had parked our car and walked up the stairs, we could see that Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha coffeeshop was bustling with lots of people! Service was rather slow on that day as the place was overly-crowded.The you tiao (fried dough sticks) had improved in terms of the crunchiness since the last time we were here. If I remember correctly, their you tiao used to be too soft without the crunch.Braised intestines - One of my favourite dishes that I would order everytime I am here.My bowl of Bak Kut Teh (Lean Meat). The bowl was rather small but you can ask for free refill of the soup. I felt that the soup was peppery hot but quite salty. However, it was good that we didn't feel thirsty after gulping 2 bowls of soup. continue reading
