Always good to hear that a Singapore brand has set foot into the overseas market.

Paradise Inn's concept is to replicate the concept of inn (tea house), restaurant and dessert house, and at the same time offer authentic and value for money food. Paradise Inn at Changi Airport Terminal 1 is the largest outlet under the Paradise Group with a capacity of more than 150 seats.

As we visited the restaurant at 945pm on a weekday, the restaurant was relatively empty. Although the restaurant closes at 11pm, the last order is at 10pm.

The Braised Peanuts $1.50, a common common starter at Chinese restaurants was highly addictive. Once you start with one, it would be hard to stop.

There were a variety of floral and herb fruit-infused hot teas to choose from as its concept was a tea house too. We chose the Jasmine, Osmanthus, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum Tea which cost $3.80 per person. Its benefit includes nourishing the heart, improving the immune system and strengthening eyesight. With the tea candle below, the tea was kept warm at all time. The Jasmine, Osmanthus, Dried Longan & Chrysanthemum Tea was light and refreshing. Tea lovers would love this!

The La Mian with Beef Brisket Soup $10.80 came in either spicy or non-spicy version. The partner ordered the non-spicy version. The beef was tender and the broth was rich and tasty. A plus point to mention would be that the soup was not oily.

I ordered the La Mian with Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetables $7.80 in Signature Pork Bone Soup which was served with half an onsen egg. The la mian was quite good; smooth and springy. The broth was tasty and had the preserved vegetable (Sze Chuan vegetable) flavour was infused in the broth. Kudos to the chef for the execution as the broth was not overly salty, which is normally the case when preserved vegetable is used. Furthermore, the onsen egg was surprisingly very well executed!

We were so glad to enjoy such delicious Chinese cuisine the moment we arrived in Singapore! Home sweet home.

Seafood has never been my desire, but for the fact that my cousin was leaving Singapore soon and would crave some Asian seafood, we decided to satisfy her craving with paradise inn. This Ee-mian, topped up with hmm, I can't remember if it was lobster or tiger prawn, was satisfying to my tummy, though it became quite dry in the middle of it.

This is highly recommended, with all the four side-dishes, and the eggs at the bottom of the hot plate really improved the taste to my taste buds!

Overall, it was less expensive than i thought because they were having a promotion!
We spent about less than $50, though I can't remember the exact pricing

I was craving for some chinese food and was at Terminal 1, so I decided to drop by Paradise Inn for its fried rice with seafood. It's a rather large bowl, and the fried rice comes with bits of scallops and prawns, which added flavour to the whole dish. Roe was also added into the rice which enhanced its fragrance. However, it was quite evident that even during off-peak hours (5pm), they were shorthanded and it took quite long for them to attend to me.

- Sweet sour pork ($10.90)

I loved the generous amount of sauce given for the zha jiang la mian. Thankfully it was not too salty and had just the right balance of taste to it. Very good to slurp along with the noodles.

- Zha Jiang La Mian ($7.50)

My hubby had the beef shank la mian and loved the soup which was probably stewed with pork bones. He has a lighter taste palette than me, thus it suited him nicely. For me personally, I would have preferred a stronger taste to the soup. The beef shank pieces were braised till tender and were tasty.

In the end we went for Paradise Inn because it was the most mainstream and relatively least exorbitant of the whole lot.

And so we were seated in the restaurant, ready to place our orders. But to our dismay, we spent a good 10 minutes flailing our arms and calling out to the staff before somebody came by to take our orders. =(

Sauteed Kang Kong with Fermented Beancurd Paste, $12.90 (M)

I love the crunchiness of the kang kong, but I guess I'm not a big fan of the fermented beancurd paste. The taste of the whole dish was screaming of fermented beancurd paste, but I feel it lacks depth - particularly the fragrance factor. I'll probably stick with sambal kang kong next time. I also find the portion too little for a medium-sized dish.

La Mian with Beef Brisket Soup (Spicy), $10.80

I actually like it that the soup was tasty yet very light, so it makes eating this la mian very enjoyable. The beef fats from the brisket tasted good, but there was just too much of it. Only trace amounts of beef meat were available. Halfway through, I had to scoop away all the fats because too much of it just took the joy of this dish away.

La Mian with Dan Dan Sauce, $7.80

Dandan la mian dishes don't come with ingredients, so I feel that the gravy becomes the most important factor for determining the merit of this dish. In this case, the gravy tasted pretty ok. There was a distinct peanut taste, which was good, but other than that, I feel that this dish too, lacks depth. Other than peanut, I couldn't make out any other taste in this. The chilli oil was another factor that made me leave this dish halfway, because I didn't like it that it kept curdling too quickly even when I was constantly eating and stirring, and that it formed an oil slick on my tongue.

Chilled Mango Sago, $4.00

My favourite dish in the entire meal! The chilled mango sago was sweet, thick and delicious. When I ate it, it sent this really relaxing sensation down my throat, and helped counter the oil slick leftover from the dandan la mian. I liked it, but the downside - only 1 small cube of real mango given. They could do with just a little more generosity.

After our meal, we requested for the bill, only to have the staff demand "give me your credit card", returning 5 minutes later, shove us the bill with "nah! sign here!" while pointing to the signature column.

Carbo staples?
Just for the two girls, you gave up your selfish choice of a la mian.
Sorry!
And decided on seafood braised rice noodles.
Lacking in that umami flavour.
Braising has to be done with those canned pig trotters I swear.

And yay!
Venison.
I used to balk at the thought of eating deer.
Doesn't the image of Bambi with its pretty white striped head and spots make it pure cruelty to ingest?
But of course, with a taste reminiscent of beef, similar in protein but lower on all counts for calories, cholestrol and fat as compared to beef, lamb or pork...
I'd choose venison anyday.
Love you tender.

We also ordered a pot of boiled soup with cucumbers and pork ribs. The soup was refreshing but a little pricey though. It cost about $15 for a pot that was just enough for 2-3 pax. The other dishes we had were hot plate toufu with minced pork, as well as stewed chicken in claypot. Both dishes were fantastic especially the toufu. The toufu was served with fried egg and minced pork. The sauce went really well with steam rice.

Last but not least, we ordered mango pudding as dessert. This was the highlight of the entire meal. It was not too sweet and the pudding was very smooth and tasty. However, I thought the serving was quite little for the big bowl they had.

If you are looking for something different, do try the Coffee Pork Ribs instead of the normal sweet and sour ones. I am pretty surprised that these taste not bad, but it might be a little too sweet for others. The coffee sauce is just nice and sticky, the smell of coffee is not too overwhelming as well. Definitely worth giving it a try!

This Fried Cod Fish is rather normal, but it may be quite pricey for a medium serving of it. With the gravy poured all over, the fish is very crispy on the outside and the flesh is really soft on the inside.

This is my first time trying this Prawn Paste Fried Chicken Wings, it is really yummy! The dish has an equal serving of both the drumlets as well as the wings. The prawn taste is not too salty, so overall its a good dish for the young children and the old. Everyone seems to enjoy this all-time favourite dish well known in many Zi Char stores.

Last not but least, ordered the Iced Lychee Mojito drink which I am very happy with. The drink tastes really refreshing and the lychee is sweet and good.

For those who prefers hot drink, I strongly recommend the hot teas. There are many choices of teas ranging from fruits, herbs and flowers. Served in a nice tea pot and a very interesting teacup which will not allow you to get scalded from the hot tea.

The food is pretty good quality but i felt the price was steep for the quality and the quantity. Didnt seem to be enough for some dishes. The dessert we selected was redbean soup, that was well done. The double boiled soup was also tasty, perhaps as soups are their specialty.

Surprisingly it is rather crowded at the changi airport outlet. Luckily we booked in advance. The table was big enuf for us too, as we actually had thirteen people. Rarely are there many places which can accommodate all of us in one big table.

The service was ok, but the waiter who brought out our cake is not v experienced when it comes to handling bdaycakes. Just plod down the cake and didnt know what to do. We had to ask him to get plates forks etc. And a lighter. But he was helpful in taking our fotos, that perhaps made up for his shortcoming.
