Upon stepping into the restaurant, you will feel as if you are teleported back to the era of Imperial China with one of the highlight of the renovation om the magnificent dragon centerpiece on the ceiling. Although the restaurant's renovation highly emphasized on creating imperial china feel, they are using cushioned dinning chairs. Thus you can assured to be enjoying the food and renovation here without compromising with awful seatings.

Japanese Cucumber in Garlic ($4.80) is crunchy and very garlicky. On top of that, it's also very refreshing and appetizing. IMO it's a very good starter to order.

Drunken Chicken ($8.80) is another very good appetizer to have. However do note that this dish is served cold. Personally I like this a lot as the chicken is well marinated with shaoxing wine. On top of that, it is not too salty.

Sauteed Shredded Pork ($12) is served with some crepes and leeks for us to wrap and eat with them. Personally I feel that it's best eaten that way too as eating it as an individual dish might be too salty. However when eaten with the crepes and leeks, the sauteed pork compliments with the condiments and made it a very tasty dish to have. On top of that, there are no porky pig smell which is a big big bonus for selective pork eater like me.

A meal at Dynasty Paradise would never be completed without these colourful xiao long baos. At $13.80 for 8 assorted flavours (black truffle, foie gras, garlic, ginseng, cheese, Szechuan, crab roe & original ), I highly recommend this to anybody who has yet to try the xiao long baos. After that, you can order the flavours that you like with a choice of 6 or 10 of them at a price starting from $6.80. On top of that, the xlb skin here is thin and yet does not break easily. IMO xlbs here are very flavourful and unique. Personally I like the szechuan a lot as it's pink and has this peppercorn aroma yet it's only mildly spicy.

Services here are really good. We ordered Szechuan La Mian ($8.50) to share. Not only did the service crew helped us to portion out the la mian nicely, they have also offered to help us cut the la mian for easier consumption. The la mian is handmade thus it's springy ( QQ) and with the shredded cucumber, which added some crunchiness, I feel that it's good as a meal on its own if you are not sharing.

Pan fried pumpkin cake ($3.60) is chewy and the sweetness is just right. A recommended dessert to finish up the meal if your stomach still have some space. =)

Overall I think Paradise Dynasty is worth to go back as the service here has improved since the last time i went. On top of that, the quality of the food here is also very consistent. So do give it a try if you have not done so. =)

I mean, who doesn't like to eat XLBs? Who can resist these juicy pearls of goodness that just explode in your mouth?? It gets even better when you have a wide variety of interesting flavours! This is what you get at Paradise Dynasty when you order the Tasting Platter, which offers you one of each flavour. I personally adore the truffle one and the cheese one the most! A must-try if you're a XLB lover!

Paradise Dynasty is one of the best places for a simple meal and their xiao long bao is also great, arguably comparable or better than that of Din Tai Fung's. We had their xiao long bao, which were piping hot and the broth was very rich in taste. I also had their fried rice with egg - a common dish but fills your tummy easily; I would prefer din tai fung's fried rice with prawns though.

Their signature dish, there were total of eight with four different flavours such as Original, Crab Roe, Ginseng and Garlic. Silky handmade skin for each, they were soupy and fantastic. I could never resist those pork dumplings, a very thin skin that broke at the touch of chopsticks. Savory broth squashed out, they went perfectly with a dip of vinegar and ginger. It was $13.80.

It's everything I wanted in a bowl of noodles. A generous serving of springy noodles in a deliciously flavourful broth with a three thick slices of braised pork belly. Should I also mention the braised half soft boiled egg? All for $10.90.

and of course, making it absolutely chinese, I had a side of dumplings $6.90. meat and chives. a dip in the vinegar, topped with a few slices of ginger and send it right in for the taste test!

mmm. skin with bite. the juicy morsel of meat filling, the familiar taste of chives all made for a myriad of flavours in the mouth. YUM!

now that's what I call lunch.

Knowing that, we were there at about 6pm. We got our queue number and just stood against the railing and chatted while waiting. Then, my fren saw our number flashing. By the time we walked over, which probably took only a few seconds, our table was given up to the next group. We were dumbfounded. And the funny part was, we were told that we had to queue again for the next big table. Service was definitely not impressive and obviously, we left for the next restaurant.

*******

As I wanted to try the colourful xiao long bao mah, we visited the place again.

The different colour represent different fillings such as cheese pork, szechuan, ginseng, foie gras etc. My boyfriend called this "恶心小笼包" (aka disgusting dumplings).

For me, the taste for most were acceptable. The flavorings were not strong in the first case, so tasted almost like the normal pork dumplings.

That's how restaurants attract customers ~ come up with new dishes with fanciful display and names. But ultimately, the taste is the deciding factor for returning customers. I was not impressed by the taste, pretty normal.

The beijing dumplings tasted better than the chilli dumplings, and the juice inside the dumplings made it more tasty. The egg fried rice is okay, fragrant but was a little over fried. Had the red bean paste pancake for dessert, that was quite a disappointment. The pancake was overly crispy and there was quite little red bean paste inside. Staff was very attentive and initiative though, refilling our hot tea whenever we're finishing. Overall enjoyed the dining experience!

Paradise Dynasty, unlike many other Chinese Restaurants, only offers (refillable) Pu Er Tea ($1.20++). What is a Chinese meal without a pot (or two) of brewed tea right. We went for it without hesitation. Don’t expect much though, the tea was a let down as the flavors did not quite escape the tea leaves used. It was relatively bland.

Mixed Dumpling (8 pieces) ($14.60++): Considering the hype (with hype comes inflation of prices) and the ingredients present in some of the Xiao Long Bao, I thought it was fairly priced. It is recommended to eat in sequence so as to tickle your taste bud from the lightest to heaviest flavored ones: Original, Ginseng, Foie Gras, Black Truffle, Cheesy, Crab Roe, Garlic, Sze Chuan. If you are the more choosy eater and would rather zoom into a specific one, I highly recommend you go for its Black Truffle and the Sze Chuan Xiao Long Bao. They are both piquant and mouth-watering, leaving you wanting more.

Cold Salted Duck Slice ($8.80++): Duck breast, duck slices, especially when they are made as an appetizer, I wouldn’t let it slip my grasp. This would do better with just a slightly stronger flavor. Otherwise, it’s ordinary.

Shanghai Pork Bun (3 pieces) ($4.50++): I don’t usually eat Pork Buns like this, but I was pleasantly surprised with their rendition. The bun is comparatively thin, fluffy and soft, thus not stealing the limelight of the pork. Further, its lightly charred bottom gives more dimension to the dish.

Drunken Chicken ($8.80++): With it coming with a strong liquor-flavored meat, you wouldn’t feel like you are being shortchanged. Good quality and adequate deep flavor.

Braised Pork Belly ($14.80++): I’m glad the sauce took a step back and did not add the saltiness to the already salted Pork Belly. The chunks of meat were pretty easy to bite off. Fatty portion doesn’t feel all too sinful for me. But of course I’m not one who cares. I can drink some oil as well.

Shanghai Fried Rice ($10.80++): About 5 – 6 small bowls makes up the mother plate. It’s a staple worth ordering. Fragrant and considerably intense in flavors. I’d pay a little more for this than to choke on plain rice.

Poached Slice Fish (Szechuan Style) ($20.80++): In simple, it’s dunked in mala sauce. If you aren’t familiar with this well-known local sauce, it’s one that is oily, spicy and numbing – all at the same time. And you ought to be aware that they aren’t reserved at all. It really is, oily, spicy and numbing. But I loved it. The fishes were poached to perfection – soft but still with volume and bite. Generous portion, enough to feed 4.

Sautéed French Beans with Minced Pork ($11.80++): It isn’t all too bad, but I felt it was rather salty; nothing to scream about.

Stir-fried Slice Beef ($18++): No, after stir-frying with the chinese ingredients, it doesn’t have any remaining gamey taste. The slices were thick enough to feel a bite, and that didn’t hinder the tenderness of it. Very enjoyable to semi-chew on them, but not of must-order standard.

As with restaurants of similar cuisines, when dishes start coming, they come like non-stop hits. Service was prompt, though nothing on a personal level. A more than decent Chinese Restaurant I would recommend. I had thought it’d be pricier than this. Guess it’s our gain. Be sure to head there earlier if you do not wish to queue. Plus, everyone has to be present before you’re allowed in.v

Note #1: Bills are to be paid at the Counter near the entrance.

Like that. Just a whole table of xlbs and saucers of ginger slices and vinegar.

Dinner was served and devoured with pleasure. The garlic ones were the least well received and the crab roe ones were the first to go. Crab roe xiao long bao was bursting with flavours of the sea and its pretty yellow color from the roe made it a delight to eat.

The grey garlic ones weren't the most attractive colour and the taste of garlic left a foul smell in one's mouth that basically caused anyone to think twice before taking a second helping.

Simple original meat xlb takes the cake. I loved the basic meat ones that go for $9.80 for a basket of 10. Full of juice and perfect zing from the vinegar. Yum.

I guess these 2 dishes are the most-often ordered in Paradise Dynasty. I have tried their colouful xiao long baos some time ago, but still preferred the original one. I had the sliced pork la mian, which was good - chinese style ramen(?); the soup was very flavourful but not overly salty, and at around $10, pretty reasonably priced and portion was good. Like the egg as well.

Tastewise, the dumplings are juicy, the meat are really fresh and the skin is not too thick. My vote goes to garlic and cheese as i like the additional touch of innovation and fragrance to the otherwise ordinary dumplings. The ginseng and szechuan are too exotic to my tastebud while the remaining flavours are too mild to taste.

We also order the radish pastry as i thought it is quite rare in Singapore. I am glad we did as the taste is fantastic! The pastry is so flaky and light that it literally melt in your mouth. The radish filling inside is flavourful and moist with a slight crunch. I love this so much and will definitely order it again!
