Located inside the jubilee shopping center in amk, you can always watch people eating inside whilst walking around amk central. It seemed to be pretty packed everytime I glanced over, soI decided to bring my family to checkout this neighborhood eatery. We quickly realized that there was no 10% charge but there was still the usual 7% gst on top of the prices. The Mee goreng had a lot of sotong.. Making it more value for money than the char Kway Teow with two crunchy prawns. But it was quite spicy.. too spicy for me.. so I gave it away to my parents. We ordered the char Kway Teow which had huge pieces of lard. The taste was so so. I think my dad can cook better and the hawker center has better ones too! It was quite oily, but the prawns were crunchy.. that's the only good thing about the dish.. I'd much rather walk to the hawker center and get 4 plates of char kway teow there..The chendol wasn't too bad. But there was a lot of gula Melaka and it didn't have the Penang chendol jelly.. so it was a fail for this dessert which I had much high hopes for. continue reading

This shop is located at Jubilee Square and it is about a 5 to 10 mins walk for Ang Mo Kio interchange. My family and I went for dinner at around 7pm on a Saturday. We waited for a while before we get seats. We ordered:Lor Mee. It came as a shock as I didn't imagine the soup to be so black. The soup was not salty as it seems. However, it was tasteless with a unique herb taste. The only good point is that the Lor Mee has a lot of ingredients in it.Curry Chicken with Rice. My dad ordered this and it was not that spicy. I personally like curry that is not spicy as I cannot take spicy food. For my brother who love spiciness, he thought that this dish was not that fantastic. The chicken in the curry was overcooked, it was quite tough to bite. The only dish to recommend is their Fried Kuey Teow. I had forgotten to take a picture of the nicest dish. continue reading

My first visit to Gurney Drive. The food there was still not too bad but just slightly too pricy. My partner and I ordered several dishes to try. We ordered Penang Assam Laksa, Penang Fried Kuay Teow, Penang Lor Bak, Penang Cendol and Penang Rojak. I'll describe each of them one by one. Penang Assam Laksa ($5.90): Both my partner and I don't really like the taste. It seems like they have added in peppermint taste to the assam paste or it's just the taste of assam. Besides, the noodles they used were kind of like 'Mee Tai Bak' or we call it 'Lao Shu Fen' in Chinese. 1 out of 5.Penang Fried Kuay Teow ($7.50):This fried kuay teow's taste was pretty fantastic. I can finish up two servings of it if my pocket allows. The only bad thing about it is that the price is close to triple of that you can purchase in a kopitiam. 4 out of 5.Penang Lor Bak ($4.50):Very very nice! Especially the Ghor Hiong. However, the serving was really small. Worth the try but just order one serving is sufficient for you to taste. not worth to order too many servings. 4 out of 5.Penang Rojak ($4.50):I like the tao pok! very crispy and they also added in fruits like pineapple, green apple (I think) and some other crunchy fruit-like stuffs. However, they only put like 4 small pieces of tau pok, and many other fruits. For me, I prefer to have more tau pok and you tiao. So this dish isn't that appealing to me. Taste wise still not too bad. 3 out of 5.Penang Cendol ($3.50):Nice taste. Just tastes slightly different from the usual Chendol that you can find in the food court. I guess that's what makes it nice. Not too sweet and the brown sugar syrup was very fragrant. 4 out of 5. continue reading

This is most probably the closer to what we can get here from Penang. I would not say this tasted like the real thing there but it tasted close. It mixed the yellow noodle with thin bee hoon then served in tasty prawn stock with medium sized prawns, fishcake and kang kong. It served with a spoonful of chilli sauce to be mixed into the noodle. It has very minimum level of spiciness. All the ingredients tasted fresh though. continue reading
