After several of attempts, Old fren and I finally met up for dinner on last friday night. We decided to met up for dinner at Woodlands Causeway Point shopping mall. Since it is long queue everywhere, we decided to have Penang local foods for dinner. No queue and we went straight in to Gurney Drive restaurant. There is an order form on the table for us to tick our orders. We placed our order and it was served less than 20 minutes. There is an order form on the table for us to tick our orders. We placed our order and it was served less than 20 minutes. I ordered Fried Koay Teow @S$7.50 per serving. The price is double price of Penang, Malaysia. I personally feel that it is expensive. However, the taste does reminds me the Penang taste though.

My friend ordered Assam Laksa @S$5.90 per serving. He is satisfied with his choice and enjoyed with the laksa. The soup base is well done and exactly taste alike Malaysia assam laksa.

We also had Rojak @S$4.50 per seving as ala-carte too. We can taste the crunchiness of the ingredients and the rojak sauce taste delicious.

Total bill was S$25.20 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST. I personally find that they shouldn’t charge the 10% service charge as we do not have much attention from the staff. We need to put our hands up to request to refill our drink even though the restaurant is not full house. The attentiveness and promptness wasn’t there. We need to bring the receipts to the counter to make payment instead of calling them to send to our table.

My parents wanted to try out Gurney Drive, a restaurant selling authentic Penang Food so we drove to Causeway Point for dinner. I did not see what they ordered so when they served the food i was kind of shocked at the name of this particular dish. the waiter said Lor Bak when he placed it down, my impression of lor bak is those black sauce braised meat with eat and tau pok, but this dish was actually Ngoh Hiang. my mother explained that in Penang they call this lor bak instead of Ngoh Hiang. It tasted pretty good, the meat they wrapped inside was very fresh. it was deep fried till very crispy. there were two dips, one black sauce, one chilli both went well with the dish. I also ordered the iced milk tea to go along with the meal. it was very milky and the tea was very fragrant. I recommend this drink if you were to head there for a meal.

i was on a diet so i decided to order two light food from Gurney Drive restaurant. I ordered their rojak and tauhu goreng. both the portions were fairly small, served on a tiny plate. i felt it was just right for a person. starting with the rojak, there were quite little amount of you tiao. the you tiao was very crunchy. the sauce was not spicy, very sweet and nutty. the tauhu goreng was very refreshing with plenty of bean sprout and cucumbers. it was a nice dish.

Penang Side Dish Platter --> didn't quite titillate our tastebuds, as the dish arrived looking quite unappetizing...The sambal-ish looking sauce wasn't so much spicy as it was sweet...

Premium Grilled Seafood Platter for 2 ($21.90)
The sauce tastes of been made from curry powder, very disappointing. The seafood is not fresh, especially the prawns which look drippy. The sting ray is very dry and hard. Barely any flesh in the crayfish. Only the sotong is okay in this dish.

Grilled Catch of the day ($23.90)
The sauce is same as the above. The fish seems to has grilled over a too hot fire and overdone. The skin is char black and hard.

King of Cendol ($5.90)
The shaved ice melts very fast. The durian flesh is very lumpy and not strong in taste.

Total amount with a plate of plain rice = $91.20. Feel it is a rather expensive meal with disappointing dishes. We waited quite a while for the dishes to arrive.
