Another gratifying meal, Lobster Bisque Baked Rice where the lobster bisque sauce is made from fresh flower crab, prawn and slipper lobster jus. Even the vegetables such as onions, mixed herbs, carrots and celeries are stirred in a prawn stock before pouring over the charbroiled long-grain rice. No wonder it takes hours to carefully prepare this dish. Loving the sweet note from the crustaceans. It packed with chockfull of flavours in every bite.

No meal can be completed without dessert(s). Try their Sticky Date Cake, homemade toffee sauce drizzled over the dates finely chopped loaf cake, and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s a hit to my sweet tooth!

The Steak and Nacho Cheese Pie I ordered was absolutely delectable. The chunks of tender beef blended perfectly with the accompanying carrots, mushrooms and onions to form a hearty stew. The pie pastry was impossibly flaky and buttery, making every bite a heavenly experience. To top it all off, literally, the cheese topping was so beautifully smooth, rich and chewy, it was really buttery, cheesy heaven to the max.

A shoutout also goes out to the accompanying mashed potatoes, which were light and fluffy, yet rich and buttery. The gravy was thick and delicious, yet not overly salty. One of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had.

Do not hesitate like I did. Go grab a pie, any pie, from Pies & Coffee now!

Smoked Salmon Stacked

Toasted bagel stacked with scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes with green peas, sautéed button mushrooms and two slices of smoked salmon, this breakfast set lacked punch as it was rather bland and light. I was expecting a little more smoked salmon slices but for the promotion, it was still acceptable.

Service was poor as staff were not very professional. They had some issue with my card initially and instead of checking their own system, insisted that my card was faulty. I ended up having to call the bank’s customer service to confirm that my card is in order before they checked their own system. Honestly, if not for the promotion, I would have simply left.

Caffe Latte (10 oz) - SGD5.42
Honestly, I don't know why they priced it so strangely. anyway their latte art was really weird too, but the fragrant of the coffee was strong. i felt it was too bitter and needed a lot of sugar.. the temperature of the coffee was not hot at all, so i think perhaps there is something wrong with their coffee machine and the hot liquid may not be able to thoroughly press the coffee bean enough.

New York Cheese Cake - SGD6.45
i really question why the new york cheese cake was so expensive. i thought it would taste better than any other new york cheese cake but it felt like it was there for several days. it wasn't fresh and even the way the cake was placed (with the sauces on the side) look frightening. it turns out the sauce was some strawberry sauce but doesn't it look like CHILLI?!!

i wouldn't visit the cafe ever again, i don't think it's worth it! they don't have service charge but it is so expensive (you have to order from the counter and also pick up from the counter, really troublesome).

Full Pies & Coffee review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2013/12/pies-coffee.html

In the style of that Great British English tradition, Pies & Coffee is a suitably named place that sells... what else? Gourmet pies and coffee! A niche concept cafe, Pies & Coffee also has soups, salads, and pastries on their menu, but most visit for their range of traditional or unique fusion pies.

Ambience at Pies & Coffee is functional, laid-back and casual. There isn't much indoor seating, but the ample outdoor seating is comfortable, sheltered and pretty cool, thanks to the nearby fountain. However, some seats may have bird poop on them, thanks to the nearby Myna birds that frequent this place. Check before you sit!

Pies & Coffee is largely self-service, with staff only helping to prepare orders and clear tables. Decent enough, and staff are quite friendly, they do make recommendations if you're unsure what to get.

Food at Pies & Coffee revolves around its namesake. I found the coffee to be decent, nothing to shout about, and while the coffee beans are of good quality, their Latte Art is rather sloppy and unprofessional. Their traditional pies are quite tasty, above average in quality, though portions are generous and filling. Worth the money! But their fusion pies really stand out for the unique flavour combinations!

Made according to the traditional British English Shepherd's Pie Beef, with a generous, filling portion. Despite the classic combination of ingredients like minced beef, carrots, onions, and peas, the Shepherd's Pie Beef lacks in the overall taste, being slightly weak on the palate. Decent, but a little more gravy or seasoning might have helped.

The pie was REALLY good. There was gravy in the pie (very taste) and the beef was moist and tender, beyond my expectations. And there were pretty huge chunks! Just look at the photo! I thought it was pretty value for money as there was a side salad & mash potato as well. The latter still had a little bit of potato skin in the mash, I really liked it as it lent a different texture to it.

The Strawberry Banana Smoothie was good too! It was nice and cold with all the flavours mixed well - nothing that I could complain about

Would definitely return again!

Didn't know what to have, the friendly wait staff at the counter recommended me to try their signature Wagyu Beef Cheek Pie ($8.95). It sure sounds delicious to me and so I decided to order it. After waiting for quite a long while even though there ain't many customers, my order is finally ready and patrons have to self-service and collect it from the counter. It sure looks good with mash potato and salad served at the side but I didn't care much about those as it taste just average. So, I dig straight into the pie and wow, the crust is sure hard like plastic. Taking a bite into the wagyu beef cheeks cube, I expected it to be more moist and tender but it wasn't the case. Parts of it were tough and and dry. Disappointed.

Come to the Iced Latte ($5.80), there wasn't much to say about it as the coffee was bland and diluted at the first sip. As the ice cubes were melting through halfway, it already tasted like plain water. Definitely a no-no but hopefully the hot ones would be better.

Conclusion, it was a very sad visit and I had better pies and coffee elsewhere. I would return to this place again and the sight of pigeons flying around pecking on leftovers that are yet to be clear away by the staffs is indeed a turn-off.

I cut a hole in the middle this time round so that it's more obvious what's the filling inside. You can see the thick cut of beef check being shown in the picture which was equally good as the lamb shank, if not better! The sauce in this drenched the bottom of the skin of the pie a little but it is forgivable as it's way too good! Like my previous visit, the mashed potato was still as good and the salad at the side was equally superb! This time round the salad dressing was more sweet than sour (which i liked better!)

It's as sweet as the chocolate flavour! Didn't really like it but I didn't want to waste it so I finished it and gulped down almost two glasses of water to decrease the sweetness flowing through me! HAHA! I absolutely love this eatery and will be coming back to utilize my vouchers gleefully!

WOW! i was truly amazed! The crust was flaky and crisp where once you sink your teeth into it, it felt like your tastebuds found true love. It was so magical! I felt like I was eating something that angels made! The lamb itself was really soft and juicy. I like that the pie was able to hold these kind of meat that needed sauce to pair with so as to enhance the taste. But the lamb shank did not need much sauce as it just melts in your mouth!
The mash potato was really awesome too. It was light and fluffy and you won't feel sick of it as the gravy was really nice.
I also like the salad that had this really special dressing, it's like a little sour but sweet at the same time. Really interesting sauce!

They also gave an ice cream and I chose the chocolate flavour. I felt that it was too sweet although it tasted a little like milo which was pretty good. But too much of it makes me sick. Luckily they had free flow water (self-serve) so you can take as much you want to wash down the sweetness.

Each pie served with a scoop of mashed potato and a good portion of green salad. The mashed potato has got a delightful buttery taste. The texture has got a desired softness. Our guess is it is most likely made of the real potato as we could taste bits of potato in it. It was served with their special brown sauce. The fresh tasting salad mainly consists of wild rockets leaves drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

The Duck Confit Pie was a good surprise. The crust has got a slight buttery taste and in the right thickness. The filling was rather generous. It was nicely filled up the pie with no space in between. The duck confit was cooked well to give it the desirable flavor and tenderness with bits of potatoes. It was a definite good choice thus convincing that why it was the last piece on the display at 1 pm.

The Wagyu Beef Cheek Pie tasted good but not much surprises in taste. The wagyu beef cheek was well-braised to the desired tenderness with herbs and chunky potatoes. It has got more meat than the potatoes though. The crust was done equally well.

As for the drinks, the Iced Tea was a better selection than the Iced Coffee. The Iced Tea has got a light floral flavor. The syrup is available for self-service at the station together with the cutlery. The Iced Coffee has got an overwhelming bitterness. I guess the hot coffee would definitely be a better choice.

The portion might seemed little but it ended up to be quite filling.

We had a single scoop of gelato each for $4.00 per scoop. There are only 2 flavors for selection : Vanilla and Chocolate. We tried both. The chocolate flavor has got a distinctive chocolate taste but rather light in texture and not too creamy. The vanilla flavor was a refreshing choice. It did not taste particularly milky as well with just the right level of sweetness.

It was a lovely experience and we really enjoyed the pies.

Pies and Coffee serves good tea too although it's name gives you the impression that it only has coffee. The teas here are available both hot and cold, and I had a fruit tea that was iced. The tea comes unsweetened, so you have to add some sugar syrup yourself till your desired sweetness. I like the tea because it is refreshing and light and cuts the fat and richness from the pies.

Pies and coffee is a unique concept that focuses on pairing pies and gourmet coffees and teas together. The pies here are pretty good with a nice crumbly buttery pastry paired with a savoury tender meat filling. My favorite was the wagyu beef cheek pie which had nice chunks of tender beef inside a crisp pastry outer. However one qualm is that the pie is really not large enough to fill you up. Being a relatively small eater even I was not full after eating the whole pie and the side mash.

Lamb Shank pie ($9.95) and Iced Tea (Special Breakfast) ($7)
Noted that there is no syrup to sweeten the tea which comes unsweetened and bitter. Instead one has to add the packets of sugar which is difficult to melt in cold drinks. The pie is served with mash potato and salad.
