Pies & Coffee (Closed)

I like the Rochester outlet of Pies and Coffee as their open-air seating area is pretty spacious with big tables and comfy chairs, which gives a really laid-back atmosphere ;) This is my first time at this outlet which is much quieter than Rochester. I ordered a flat white which was not bad with quite a decent coffee art!

Christmas is near. Received a log cake from pies & coffee. It looks very pretty and got many of us into the festive mood. The cake was chocolate flavour. I loved that it was very rich and smooth. The flavours were intense and extremely appetizing. It was served cold and tasted even a little like ice cream cake for some reason. Although it was rich, it was not overly sweet. This log cake was just so lovely!

Needed a coffee fix and ordered a cup of mocha from Pies & Coffee. First of all the latte art was disappointing. It was practically not there. The taste of the mocha was all right. It was not so sweet, the chocolate or coffee taste wasn't strong either. There was nothing that really stand out in this cup which makes it very ordinary.Personally I find the coffee here not too consistent. everytime I order the same drink but everytime its a different taste. Each cup cost $6.20.

This is the Chicken and Mushroom Pie ($8.95++). The pie contains succulent chicken chunks and button mushrooms in cognac cream sauce. I liked that there was so much sauce in the pie. The filling was very satisfying. The pie was soft, buttery and thin. The gravy on the mash was delicious as well and really complemented the sauce that was in the pie too. I will return to try other pie flavours!

I dropped by The Grandstand after yoga class. There were so many food choices there so, we decided to just have lunch there since it was already past 12 and we were starving. My friend recommended me Pies & Coffee so I suggested that we try out that place.It was such good luck that there weren't a lot of people there, so there were seats we could occupy. Popped by this cafe as my friend highly recommended it. There were many types of pies and cakes to choose from and I was spoilt for choice. I made my decision on the Chicken Mushroom Pie and it came with mashed potato and salad. A wonderful portion just right for my brunch. The mash potato has a chunky texture (similar to Popeye's mash potato) which I favor over the smooth textured kind. I wanted to go along with a cup of cafe latte but they ran out of this item. Pies and Coffee is an interesting concept, pairing gourmet pies with gourmet coffee. The pie selection here is pretty extensive, and I had a beef wagyu cheek pie with a coffee for lunch on a weekday. The pie crust is very good, light and very flaky and tender, breaking apart with the slightest pressure. The wagyu filling kinda tastes like beef stew though, can't really tell its wagyu.

Was so tired of the normal food court dishes and decided to have pies for lunch instead. Ordered a duck confit pie and iced fruit tee. The mash potato and salad that came with the pie was good. The sauce used for the mash potato was very tasty. However, the duck confit pie was pretty disappointing. It was salty and the meat was tasteless. Worst thing was, the pie wasn't fresh at all. What kind I say, I love pies. Particularly savory pies. Hence, to have lunch at Pies & Coffee was a no brainer when I was at The Grandstand. This is the chicken and cheddar cheese pie with a side of mash potato and some greens. Sad to say it wasn't exactly fantastic. I didn't get that warm feel good feeling like when you eat comfort food such as pies. The chicken wasn't hot enough and the crust was a tad soggy. I think Don's pies are still better in this sense but I haven't tried their other pie

I don't really understand what is all the rave about savory pies. It's not something that I would particularly crave for but I must say that the pies they serve here are not bad. I had the Chicken Pie lunch promotion for $12.95 and comes with a free coffee.The coffee here packs a punch and I usually like to drink hot coffees without sugar. This is my first time at The Grandstand trying out the Pies & Coffee at The Grandstand. This time I ordered the ratatouille with the lunch set. The lunch set comes with a coffee/tea of your choice.
