I have bought a box of the mini walnut pastries with yolks from this Chinese restaurant for my family to eat. This is my first time I buying the walnut pastries during the mooncake festival as I usually buy the traditional baked skin mooncakes. These pastries have quite similar biscuit pastry like the traditional Chinese bean paste pians, which is thick in texture and quite fragrant with the butter flavour in it. The lotus paste is sweet and smooth in texture. The salted egg yolk is kind of abit too dry and could have been better if is abit more wet version. The walnuts are crunchy and fresh. Overall not too bad and at $40 per box, not too expensive as well. continue reading

Earlier last week, I went with my hubby to Pioneer Seafood at Tuas for our lunch. They serve chinese food and I think this outlet is newly opened as there are opening specials during the time we went. Since there is only two of us, we ordered two dishes, the homemade beancurd with minced meat and the claypot chicken. The service was rather slow and we had to wait quite a bit before our food came. The claypot chicken arrived first. The portion was quite large and the claypot chicken is very well seasoned. In fact, it is slighty too salty if you just eat it on its own, but it is still alright if you pair it with rice. The chicken meat is tender as well and the only thing to fault it is the saltiness. For the homemade beancurd, the beancurd serving is two pieces so it is just nice for the both of us. The homemade beancurd is very fragrant with an eggy taste and it is very smooth. The minced meat adds flavour to the beancurd but even without the minced meat, I thought that the beancurd is already very tasty on its own. Overall, I thought the service could be better and I may try other chinese restaurants instead of coming back here again. Do note that they do not charge GST and service charge, so that is quite an incentive to come and try their food. continue reading
