Red Velvet Cake
Best part of the meal is the red velvet cake. It was quite sweet though, had to share it with my partner otherwise I would not be able to finish it.

Service: very slow. We waited for quite some time. There were empty seats inside but the servers took such a long time to clear the tables before we were finally let in.
Servers were free but somehow they couldn't see us waving our hands for help a couple of times. There were just standing there doing nothing. I won't be back for a long time and even if I do, I'll probably just do a take-away for the cakes.

Pique Nique is an American-themed cafe that serves all-day breakfast, desserts and pastries
I ordered the main course Big Breakfast set which consists of white toast, grilled bacon & pork sausage, 2 poached eggs, grilled tomato, baked beans and side salad. The poached eggs are nicely done with egg yolks soft and runny. As for the grilled bacon and pork sausage, also juicy and crispy
I also ordered the Pique Nique fries served with mayonnaise and ketchup. The fries are crispy and not too oily and very nice when dipped with mayonnaise

The Service
Service is good as the waitreses are attentive to my request and top up ice-water when low.

The Ambience
The decor and surroundings quite nice and the seats are cozy and comfortable.

The Price
Reasonably priced at $7.80 for the fries and $15.80 for the Big Breakfast set

Overall
I will definitely come back again to try other varieties and highly recommended to try for all brunch lover!!

God is good. Thousands of centuries ago, he gave homo-sapiens the wisdom, as well as the ability to make the most satisfying desserts for royal events, ceremonies or festive seasons. Nowadays, due to increasing demands and the gastronomic needs for humans, desserts have become the staple for most of us after meals.

It's no different for another human like me. Once upon a time, after lunch at newly-opened Japanese Restaurant at Liang Court - Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru, we decided to head down to Ngee Ann City (also known as Takashimaya) for some desserts. With consideration of atas bakery and patisserie "Paul" in mind as well, we decided to go for Pique Nique (pronouced "picnic") as it provides adequate space for the two children to move about.

Opened by the former renowned pastry chef of Les Amis Group's Canele, Chef Pang Kok Keong currently helms two restaurants - Antoinette and Pique Nique, under his newly-formed Sugar Daddy Group. With the latter specializing in American cuisine, such as hotdogs, burgers and bacons, this Western bistro also serves freshly-made desserts and an impressive array of pastries, and which we are obviously here for.

Eliza had the Hot Iron Waffle (S$11.80) served with whipped cream and a scoop of home-made vanilla ice cream, and finally drizzled with either maple syrup or salty caramel. We had the former, and it was absolutely delicious. The waffle was crispy on the edges and it had a fine balance between eggy and floury texture. It was amazing, and the best thing is the serving size of the waffle. I didn't expected it to be this huge, but yes, here it is.

Sticky Dates Pudding (S$12.00) with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream was good also. However, the pudding was warm, but not warm enough to give that "shiok" (ecstatic) feeling when eaten in one mouthful with the cold counterpart. It was a tad too sweet as well, but other than, I finished this whole plate in less than a few minutes.

Chococheese Cupcake (S$5.15) was a nice combination of rich chocolate and creamy cheese filling. It is topped with frosted cheese cream and dark chocolate shavings, and it had just the right sweetness.

Mark has a small appetite with a picky mouth for good food. I could easily tell that this Blueberry Cheesecake (S$8.35) is good when he wolfed down this slice. But again, I do expect no less for that pricing though.

The only disappointment was the Chamomile Tea (S$6.80 for 1 regular-sized pot). It was the least warm and tasteless. Period.

Like stated in the introduction, Pique Nique serves decent American meals at affordable pricing as well. I will definitely visit again when nature calls for a light snack in between meals, not to even mention I have not tried their Whoopie Pies!

Iced Chocolate. $7.80

I can't remember when was the last time I had a really bad iced chocolate. The chocolate wasn't sweet, nor rich. It was really diluted. I couldn't bring myself to finish them after the third sip. The marshmallow that floated atop was in a shape of a cloud which I think was kind of cute if the chocolate was sweeter and richer in taste.

It's a pity that the chocolate was a disappointment. I don't think I'm gonna order their drinks anymore, except orange juice to go with the breakfast sets which is the safest choice.

I didn't try it but my girlfriends had problems finishing it.
Too sweet they say.

Iced chocolate with a marshmallow cloud.
It's bitter.

Minimal milk.
Make a request for some sugar syrup and milk if you need to.

And for this.
I forgive you.

Vanilla ice cream and chantilly cream.
On the most delicious waffle i've had to date.
Thick.
Crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside.

I would have this all to myself for a meal.
Meal replacement diet they say?

The portion is very big and comes with one hot drink for the Big Breakfast. It consist of bacon, toast, Lettuce, tomato, baked bean and scrambled eggs. The bacon is fried to brown and crispy. The egg is lightly scrambled.

The pasta is slightly spicy sauce coating the Al Dente noodle with squid, prawn and mussels. The taste is quite good.

Overall the place is a casual setting but service were a bit slow even though they are not really that pack for a early evening. I believed this is due to New Yea Eve they were short handed.

Long Island Breakfast is served in a relatively large portion. Un-buttered toasts that I ate with the baked beans that had a subtle smokey fragrant to it, scrambled eggs with chives peppered over it, pork sausage with two slices of bacon and salad.

As I really love breakfast food, I'd definitely return to try all of their breakfast sets.

I ordered their bacon carbonara at $16 for lunch, I wasn't feeling very hungry so their portion was quite alright for me at that moment. However, if you were to compare it with other places, their portion is really small but the plates were pretty which made a good dining experience. Their carbonara was good, not too creamy and the pieces of bacon given were enough for the amount of spaghetti. Their cakes seem tempting and i ordered their triple chocolate cheese cake at $8. Their cakes seem tempting and i ordered their triple chocolate cheese cake at $8. The top cheese layer was soft and not too cheesy, the middle layer was chocolate sponge which was good as well while the last layer was brownie with walnut bits. When the three layers combine together, it tasted heavenly, it was neither too sweet nor make you feel sick after a feel mouthful.

Overall, I find that dining at pique nique is rather expensive but their ambience is cosy and relaxing. So if you are looking for some place to relax and not price sensitive, pique nique is the place you can try.

As for me, I decided to try out the desserts. I ordered the Ice Cream Profiterole. I did not know what a Profiterole actually
was till I saw it right in front of me. It tasted like buttered bread and its skin was slightly crisp. I also choose butterscotch
sauce which I found slightly too sweet for my liking. The ice cream flavours I had were Peanut Butter and Caramel,
Butterscotch and Malted Milk. I was stunned when I saw that all 3 choices of my ice cream were somehow same in
colour! BROWN or tones of it. Who cares about their colour when their taste is all that matters! A nice burst of flavours
when I ate them bit by bit, savouring the unique flavours which complimented well with the profiterole.

Chance upon here again at Takashimaya and bought a red velvet macaron. It was a huge disappointment in fact. I've tried it before but this time round, the standard wasn't there. The outer layer was quite soft and a little moist in my opinion. I just felt the entire thing wasn't fresh at all. Perhaps kept for too long or the fridge was left opened and moisture seeps in. There's still alot of it left!

Chance upon here while walking pass. The display really caught my attention especially their colourful macarons. I took away this cake as it looked really mouth watering. It consist of a top layer of cream, followed by milk chocolate and dark chocolate cake at the base. It is not really sweet in my opinion and i find it rather weird. I didn't really like it as i would prefer something sweeter!

We were greeted with a smile. First time here with a wide variety of macarons to choose from. Staff recommended us a few of the popular ones without hesitation. Wonderful service! We had red velvet macaron and a chocolatey flavoured one. Personally, i find the chocolate one is average. It's simple and plain looking but tasted not too bad. As for the red velvet, it's the one flavour my gf likes. I find it pretty nice too. Worth a try!
