At the suggestion of my classmate, I went to Pique Nique at Ngee Ann City to celebrate a friend's birthday. She raved about their cakes so we decided to give it a try since that would save the hassle of buying and bringing along a birthday cake. There were 3 of us, and for dinner we ordered: The Tokyo Connection- Teriyaki chicken burger with a tonne of fries at the side. At the suggestion of my classmate, I went to Pique Nique at Ngee Ann City to celebrate a friend's birthday. She raved about their cakes so we decided to give it a try since that would save the hassle of buying and bringing along a birthday cake.

There were 3 of us, and for dinner we ordered:

The Tokyo Connection- Teriyaki chicken burger with a tonne of fries at the side. This dish was pretty good; the chicken wasn't too fatty and the sauce was much better than McDonald's version of it. Ladies do note that the portion is rather big.

The American Favourite - My guy friend had this and he was impressed by the amount of bacon served. A must try if you are hungry for meat.

Classic Benedict - The birthday girl had this. The portion was quite small and there was nothing really special about it. Like she said, its hard to go wrong with english muffin and eggs. However if you're looking for a light meal at pique nique, this would be it.

Now to the more important things: CAKE!
We took really long to decide on 2 slices of cake. At this point I must commend the service staff for his excellent service. He was very patient with us even though we really took a very long time to make up our minds, plus he was very helpful in giving comments about what each flavour was like and he also made small talk with us.

Eventually we had raspberry chocolate bar and caramel chocolate brownie (see picture). The caramel chocolate brownie was not bad, though it gets a bit too much after awhile so if you are planning to order it, make sure theres at least 3 people sharing it. The raspberry chocolate bar was a disappointment though. First the raspberry flavour did not blend well with the chocolate and second the cake was spongy. I have nothing against spongy cake, but for the price we paid (8.50 if i remember correctly), i would have expected a more solid cake. Because of that, it felt like any normal neighbourhood bakery cake.

Overall, i think pique nique is a nice place to chill out. Food may not be fantastic, but it doesn't taste awful either. The cakes are supposedly good but maybe i picked the wrong flavours. The service will be what makes me go back again to pique nique.
