Sweet sambal was fragrantly rich with not overly spicy, accommodate finely with coconut-aromatic rice. Chicken drumstick was golden-yellowish, crispy with toothy bite. Fried Fishballs and Grilled Otak were perfect side dishes, added points to dull-looking plate. Had to admit, the price was high but pay for quality here.

This was my first time having punggol nasi lemak. Not too sure what is with the hype, their queue since to be never ending!

I ordered 4 ingredients which are egg, french bean, chicken wing and ikan bilis and this costs me $5. although the nasi lemak is really nice (all the ingredients and rice), i will not specially come to eat again due to the long queue and its quite pricey for a plate of nasi lemak.

Also, the staff service wasn't very good as they are very impatient.

Even though the food is nice here, it does not make me wanna patronize it often.

The chicken wings looked very popular because they constantly have a new batch to pour into the container. However, I didn't order that. Instead, I ordered their otah, fish cake and egg. Cucumber will be given at the cashier.

$2.70.

The rice is their highlight. I can tell why they are so popular. It's got that really fragrant and sweet coconut smell and it tastes really nice and not clumped together. Unlike other nasi lemak that will make you drink 10 glasses of water, this nasi lemak is surprisingly refreshing.

The other highlight is the otah. I don't know if they make it themselves, but it's really very nice. Better than average otah you can buy on its own. This otah is not extremely spicy, it is just right to excite the taste buds without paralyzing your tongue. The sweetness and saltiness are balanced too!

The fried fish cake is the normal fish cake you can find in economical beehoon and nasi lemak stalls all over Singapore, so there's nothing special. Same goes for the egg.

So don't be turned off by the long queue, its speed may surprise you! Try this much-talked-about Nasi Lemak at least once in your life!

The nasi lemak rice at Punggol Nasi Lemak is flavourful and cooked just right, the chilli sauce was just right and the ikan bilis was very nice and crispy. Some of the die die must try dishes include chicken wings/drum stick ; otah ; egg; ikan billis ; other optional sides but also a must try - mini ngor hiangs, fried wantons, fish cakes, curry vegetable, egg plant, long beans.

A day we decided to take it a try on Punngol Nasi Lemak... Had the chicken drumstick, egg, otah and sunny sideup...the food here was ordinary and nothing special and you can easily find a stall selling similar quality of food somewhere, The chilli was normal (at least to me), the rice given was pathetically small portion...Don't understand the queues & over the prices...Think twice before you plan to come here, the food may fall below your expectation...

The Food
Many people would have heard of this Punggol Nasi Lemak Centre when talk about chinese nasi lemak There is a wide selection of dishes to choose from including fried chicken, tempura prawns, fried sotong balls, fish fillet, fried egg, curry vegetables, fried long beans, ikan bilis and otah etc. After much hesitation, I chose fried chicken drumstick, fried egg and curry vegetables to accompany my nasi lemak. The rice is above average but lacks the rich and fragrant coconut taste. The sambal chilli is indeed special, not overly sweet or spicy and has a special shrimp aroma. The fried chicken drumstick is well marinated and is huge and crispy!

The Price
Reasonably priced at $3.90 for such a big chicken drumstick hence value for money!

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

Ponggol Nasi Lemak is very famous in Singapore. I would say it is famous because of its fried chicken wings. Many people will not buy a packet of nasi lemak without chicken wings. Due to its popularity, one of the aunties will always be busy frying chicken wings at their kitchen. As for the price, an average packet of nasi lemak with a chicken wing and two other choices of meat/veg will cost you around $4 per packet. Overall, worth the try!

My nasi lemak seems a bit pathetic but this is how the auntie arranged the food and it cost me $4.50! Here's my verdict: The rice was fragrant and tasted really good, that's a plus point! The chicken wing was nicely done, crunchy and I am still able to taste the freshness of the meat. The otah was cold, but it has few chunks of fish in it, it would taste even nicer if it's hot and more spicy. The uncle could have given me two slices of cucumber instead of one, and that one given was thin not as crunchy.

First bite impressed me with the fragrance of the coconut nice, the rest of the dishes were average. Sambal chiili is the more spicy version but went well with the fried chix wing which is the star for me Maybe because my chix wing was the fresh from wok batch, it taste hot and crispy, i'm happy i ordered 2 of it. Overall i would rate the chix wing as the signature item but i guess that is good enough to keep ppl coming back,. btw they sell the drumstick version for near to $2.50-$3.50 per piece.

The strong fragrance of the pandan leaves which makes the nasi lemak rice very nice and tasty. The taste of the rice is neither too rich nor too bland. It is just nice for my liking. The chicken drumstick is very crispy in the outside, however, the meat inside is not very nice. It is quite difficult to chew the meat off the bone. The ikan bilis is crunchy and delicious. They are famous for their chill as well, which is spicy and sweet.

Among people whom I ask, they mentioned that their rice and chili are worth to queue for.
Perhaps not in my context.

They have good assortment of dishes to choose from.
But their selection are not really cheap.

A chicken wing, some anchovies and an egg will set you back about $4.00.
Portion are pathetically small.
Everything are just above average to me, including the rice and chili.

Definitely not worth queuing up for.
There are much more nasi lemak stalls out there.

Drive past Upper Serangoon Road in the evening, and one is bound to notice the never-ending line of hungry customers at Ponggol Nasi Lemak. Having heard mixed reviews about the place, my family decided to check out what the fuss was about one day.

Unfortunately, we were met with disappointment. While decent, the nasi lemak was definitely not worth the fifteen minutes spent in the queue. Though fluffy and moist, the rice could have done with a stronger coconut milk fragrance. To give them credit, the chicken wing was large and crispy and the mandatory sweet chilli was alright. But the otah was just ordinary, so were the greasy and spicy stir-fried long beans and sambal brinjal. My mum also complained that her sunny-side up was cold.

The only thing about this stall that wowed me was the large assortment of side dishes, including achar, curry cabbage and tempura prawns.

I was charged about $4.50 for a stingy portion of rice, a chicken wing, a piece of otah and a serving of veggies. Queue up for average and pricey food again? No thanks... I say, head to Lee Wee & Brothers' outlet at the nearby Kovan Food Centre for nasi lemak if you happen to be around the area instead.
