The restaurant at Bugis+ was pretty small and hence, rather packed when we reached there at 7pm on a weekday. Nevertheless, we still managed to get a table for 7 (at one 'private' corner to ourselves) without much hassle. Just a few selection of the menu. Prices are really affordable, nothing ridiculously overpriced. My favourite soup flavour, mushroom soup! It's priced at $6.80 for a relatively large bowl. My favourite soup flavour, mushroom soup! It's priced at $6.80 for a relatively large bowl.

The soup is relatively thick and creamy, with a strong fragrance of my favourite mushroom! It tasted like the cook has dumped a good load of mushroom into the blender, topped it up with cream and blended away!

Even though tiny bits of mushroom (the brownish specks) are visible, the soup is smooth and creamy, not lumpy at all. It's neither too runny (which will make me feel rip-off) nor too thick (which makes me sick of it easily), just nice to my liking. The soup is flavourful on its own (no additional salt and pepper required), with a brilliant tinge of mushroom fragrance to it. I'm using fragrance here because let's face it, mushrooms hardly have any taste.

The soup is also topped up with nicely toasted croutons cut in generous sizes, and 7 of them! I love how these croutons are toasted to perfect crispiness, just falling short of the bitter "overtoast".

As the soup is not too runny, it'll take a good while for the soup to thoroughly seep into the croutons, thus it's a plus point for me as I dislike soggy croutons. I ate up all the croutons, coated in the creamy goodness of mushroom yet not soggy from being seeped through, before finishing up the rest of the soup.

And here's my Poulet Roti, priced at $15 dollars for half chicken. It's a pity they're not flexible enough to give quarters, because I couldn't finish half a chicken!

The chicken comes originally with creamy mushroom sauce, and they recently have a new addition of cranberry sauce. Being a mushroom fanatic, I didn't need to think twice to go for the mushroom sauce (which I regretted).

As you can see from the picture, the creamy mushroom sauce is obviously very creamy, albeit falling short of being mushroomy. It reminded me very much of a white cream sauce for pasta, and topped up with just one pathetic piece of mushroom (that was hidden by the chicken), which added absoutely no mushroom taste to the sauce. So why name it the creamy mushroom sauce?

The sauce was way too creamy for my liking, didn't like it one bit. In fact, it made me sick with the overpowering creaminess that very much covered up the fragrant sweetness of the roast chicken. I ended up painstakingly slicing the chicken in a manner that will allow the minimal amount of sauce getting onto it. I wasn't the only one at the table that hated the sauce, but I got to be fair and admit that there are others who literally wiped their plates clean. So I guess it's a definite hit or miss, you either love it or hate it.

For me, sauces are supposed to enhance, not to overpower or worse, contradicts the taste of the actual main. In my humble opinion, this sauce has tipped over the line of "contradicting" the taste of the roast chicken. I hated the combination of it at the very first bite. There's just this face-scrunching moment that I couldn't really put the experience of the taste into words. You really got to try it to know how much you love it or hate it.

Note: Sa later on told me on IG that their cranberry sauce is much better. So for my readers who already dislike creamy sauces, you might want to go for the cranberry instead.

Now on to the roast chicken. I love it! The chicken was well marinated and roasted to just how I like it. The meat is flavourful yet tender and not "overly-juicy".

I know many love those extremely juicy meat but not me, I call them slimy.

I could easily poke my fork into the meat, give it a quick slice with my knife and pull the entire chunk of meat out from the body of the chicken. Being well roasted, the chicken skin is also not oily, slightly crispy (when I say crispy here, it's the roast chicken kind of crispy, please don't expect KFC style crispy skin) and infused with the "roasted fragrance". Hence, it was a rare sight of me gobbling up the skin and all. In more common cases, I'll remove the skin and push them to the side of the plate. Not a health freak, just not a big fan of skins.

So for those girls out on a date, there's no fear of showing your date the less than demure sight of you battling with a half roasted chicken, trying to tear chunks of meat of the body and then ending up with the most unslightly sheen of oil on your lips. *rofl*

After this first visit, I visited Poulet again twice to try out their apple sauce and mushroom sauce. The apple sauce was equally bad, and while the mushroom sauce was still decent, it still leaves a weird aftertaste, which makes me not want to try the same dish ever again.

I mean, what else can I say? Poulet does roasted chicken perfectly, but please do something with your less than decent sauces.

Other Info. : Bulk of the content is about my first visit in 2013, but I've revisited a couple more time to try out all their sauces for the roasted chicken.

Half Chicken in Cranberry - $17.80

Poulet means chicken in french, and of coz anyone would have expected better standard here. Unfortunately, the chicken here was not exceptionally good. I would think standard is comparable with Kenny Rogers which is cheaper. Hmm..

Tiramisu - $7.80

The most 'memorable' item we ordered was the tiramisu. It came in a large portion, so do not try to consume yourself. Sharing is a sweeter taste! ^_^

The signature roasted chicken was well marinated and roasted but not impressive.

The stewed beef in red wine with carrot and onion came in small portion but was enough filling for a normal guy.

The chicken in broth with potato and onion was a normal fare.

The best recommended was the truffle mashed potato which was my favorite. The flavor and taste was just perfect for me.

We ordered Escargot de Bourgogne @S$8.80. Escargots baked with tomato fondue infused with garlic butter. It was pipping hot when it is served and the taste is still consistent compared to my last visit.

As for our main course, he had Iberico Pork Belly @S$15.80. Braised spanish Iberico pork belly served with mashed potato, leek confit and double mustard. Serving portion was just perfect for one person serving. The pork belly texture was soft and tender to chew. The melting braised pork meat compliments well with the mustard and mashed potato.

The star of the restaurant has to be its Poulet Roti ($15.80 for half, $28.80 for whole), or chicken. I ordered the half chicken with home made white and creamy mushroom Chardonnay Sauce. Truly best recommended main course. The slow roast chicken makes the meat texture taste moist and tender. The chicken skin is quite crispy and savoring the taste of it with the sauce makes the dish tasted awesome!

We ended our lunch with Tiramisu @S$7.80 that still convince me with its' consistency in terms of the quality. Served chilled with rich creamy mascarpone cheese and bitter coffee-soaked sponge satisfied our cravings on dessert.

However, I am quite disappointed that we are charged for plain water. We told the staff that we will have ice-water will do but we were told that we need to order Dasani Mineral Water @S$1.80. We left no choice to order a bottle to share.

Total bill was S$65.70 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST.

The well-marinated chicken is slow roasted to golden brown perfection with traditional French recipe, that recipe creator may just be the best person on Earth because this, I would say, deserves more than 5 stars! The mushroom Chardonnay sauce that came with it is probably the best I've ever tasted my whole life. The creamy luscious consistency complements really well with the chicken which gives you a heavenly taste of French!

As for desserts, I went ahead and ordered the Profiteroles ($7.80) which is basically 2 generously filled choux puffs with scoops of vanilla icecream, drizzled with warm chocolate sauce then topped with almond flakes. This may not be awesome to be considered a must-order dessert so I'll definitely try out other desserts like their jarred tiramisu next time I visit.

A very affordable french restaurant that serves portions that are just right. Main dishes that was ordered - Braised duck leg, Poulet Chicken, truffle fries, escargots. Escargots was the only disappointing dish. I would say that i'll definitely visit Poulet again because both the food and the service was good. Overall it was a really good experience at the restaurant.

But in fact most of the menu choices are really just "normal", would not be able to tell it being French cuisine in particular if it were not of the inclusion of escargots.

Anyway, I enjoyed it very much. The Mushroom Chardonnay sauce was flavorful but yet not too gelat. The chicken was tender even for the breast meat part. A perfect combination along with the mushrooms, thumbs up hehe

An haha I love my mushroom so much that I have mushrooms for appetizer. It came along with a poached egg on top

Poulét means chicken in French actually. But besides their chicken star dish, there are other meat dishes too. Tried the Oxtail de Bourguinon ($15.80). Supposedly it is beef stew in Burgundy red wine but hmm I could not taste a slightest tinge of any red wine in the sauce. It was tender but I find it too plain tasting. It was not really worth the price.

I would definitely return for their star dish. They are expanding with more branches now islandwide.

At Poulet, you definitely have to try their chicken. (Well that's what they are known for!) The cream sauce is simply divine, and it goes really well with the roasted chicken. The restaurant at Bugis+ was extremely generous with the sauce but maybe there were so, due to a distinct lack of sides. The dish did not come with any sides such as salads or even fries, which was quite a pity as I was definitely expecting some from the price I was paying. The meal was delicious but it was not filling enough in my opinion so perhaps you'll have to order a few other items to satisfy your cravings.

Baby Lamb Shank stewed with Root Vegetables and Rosemary in its own jus infused with Orange

I had the lamb shank. There was a lingering lamb smell, but it wasn't that pungent.
The sauce was great and flavourful.
The lamb meat was pretty generous as well, for the $15.90++ pricing.
But I didn't manage to finish the whole plate, because the dish felt too bland on its own after eating for long

A pity I didn't order the tiramisu. it looks good enough for girlfriends to share, since the portion looked rather huge.
Will head back to try out more, especially its signature roast chicken!

Braise de Poulet. Stew-cooked chicken leg with potato, onion, garlic and leek in white wine sauce. The soup is refreshing, and the chicken meat is tender

Poulet Rosti. This is the signature dish in Poulet! The chicken is brined for a full day and slow roasted till skin turns golden brown, and added with their home-made mushroom chardonnay sauce.

I had the half chicken, and I simply love their creamy mushroom chardonnay sauce, which is a nice combination with their chicken rosti :9

Caramelised Apple in Puffy Tart. Baked caramelised granny smith apple and almond paste in puffy tart served with vanilla ice cream. Liked this dessert, although the caramelised apple is a little sweety. But smudged it with the ice cream, it's just yummy!
