Had a craving for Mee Siam this afternoon. The popular dish of thin rice vermicelli in spicy, sweet and tangy flavour.Bought a bowl of Mee Siam from Punggol Nasi Padang at Century Square. The gravy for the Mee Siam was unabashedly bold with a good combination of dried shrimps, taucheo and tamarind juice. There were a generous amount of diced taupok with bean sprouts and a hard boiled egg.The amount of bee hoon added to the Mee Siam was sufficient enough for a hearty lunch meal. The sambal paste rounded off the dish giving a robust taste to the dish.Mee Siam literally means Thai noodles in the Malay language. The sweetness and sourish gravy of the Mee Siam is reminiscent of the flavours of Thailand. The thinly sliced Chinese chives added flavour to the dish.Priced: S$4.00 continue reading

The newest Punggol Nasi Padang stall opens at the basement of Century Square! It was super crowded on the first day it opened and my mom and I decided to come for dinner a few days later. I so wanted to order a teh cino or tarik or a kopi but it was dinner time and I will have trouble sleeping if I take in caffeine that late! I very much prefer the waterchestnut drink to calamansi drink as the latter was too sour for me. My mom had the nasi padang set, which consist of mutton, veg, rice and papadum. The mutton portion was too little and so not worth it! In contrast, the ayam panggang set I had was good! It consist of an egg, rice and a huge chicken! Overall, a satisfying dinner for me but not for my mom. I will come back here to try their breakfast! continue reading
