There weren’t a lot of people as it was not the dining hour. When we first went in, we were issued the card we could use to make purchases.(:

Me and my friend took a tour around the whole place and find that almost all the stores sells similar ramen.
We eventually chose the store for the rice they have there.(:

We ordered the original pork don (there was a name for it but can’t recall the exact one:x) and also the miso soup ramen.

Love the miso soup ramen;D the soup is so richly flavoured with the miso, and there are lots of ingredients in it such as seaweed, cabbage, the Japanese special egg and the pork meat.
The ramen was chewy and yet soft too. Really love the texture. The portion given was quite a lot that I could become so full if I did not share them with my friends;D
Would like to highlight on the egg! It may seems like a hardboiled egg but it is so unique that the egg white is cooked, hard but carries a little softness, and the egg yolk is not totally cooked. There is also the miso taste that sips into the egg. Had tried this kind of egg at elsewhere before…really love it!;D

The rice was nice too! The white rice beneath the meat may look plain and bland but it taste nice with the pork meat;D the sticky Japanese rice was fragrant too^^ The amount of meat given was very generous too!(:

Just that for both dishes, the meat used was the pork meat with lots of fats. We were not used to eating such meat so initially we did not really like the meat much. But after taking more of it, we grew to like it;D

Although the price is quite expensive that each ramen cost at least $11+ and the rice costs $6+, for such delicious and tempting delicacies…we will try it again the next time;D

Bario Ramen (regular size as shown in picture) - $13The serving is huge! Despite the fact that it is very tasty, I managed to finish only 3/4 of the serving. Hence, for those who don't eat a lot, you may like to order the half serving ($7). Simply love the soup as it is thick (seems as if it has been boiled for very long) and has a very strong garlic taste. However, I find that the meat has lots of fats, not recommended for those who wanna go on a diet!

Went to check out this "contest" with my two other ramen buddies and we had a mind-blowing ramen experience. Basically, we tried out all the ramen outlets that were competing except Gantetsu as we ate Sapporo ramen too often. Here's a break-down of the ramen we tried:

Bario (Specialty Ramen - Regular Size):
Their serving size is gigantic and it seemed to be the most popular with Singaporeans who found that it was most value for their money. Their noodles are really thick and the soup broth contains a strong garlic taste. Loads of beansprouts added on top and all of us found it very heavy as a meal.

Tai Sho Ken (Specialty Ramen - Regular Size):
That was the first time I ate ramen which was served separate from the soup base. You get one bowl of noodles and one bowl of soup with ingredients. You are supposed to dip the noodles into the soup and eat, similar to eating soba. I found it way too salty for my liking.

Tetsu (Specialty Ramen - Regular Size):
Another ramen which serves the noodle separate from the soup base. It tasted less salty compared to Tai Sho Ken but overall I could not taste much difference between Tai Sho Ken and Tetsu. The meat served at Tai Sho Ken was softer compared to this stall. I guess its up to the individual preference.

Menya Iroha (Specialty Ramen - Regular Size):
This is my 2nd favourite ramen of the lot. The noodles were very smooth and the soup base had a unique soya spice taste that I cannot seem to figure out where it comes from. The egg served was best tasting egg served among all the stalls I tasted at Ramen Champion. My throat felt dry after drinking the soup though.

Ikkousha (Specialty Ramen - Regular Size):
My favourite ramen stall amongst all. This stall serves Hakata-style ramen with a creamy soup base which my friends and I ALL enjoyed. We finished up all the soup and noodles leaving nothing behind. The taste was well balanced, not too salty and the egg was delicious as well.

All ramen fanatics who have not been to Japan MUST visit this place to try out all the ramen available as they are reasonably priced.

Ramen champion has been setup to showcase the different type of ramen by different ramen masters from all over japan. Although there are six choice, i decided to order the ramen from Taishoken. The broth of the ramen is very concentrated and you can really taste the pork and chicken favors in it. The ramen itself is cooked just nice, it has a very smooth texture and they are very springy. The charsu and the flavored egg completes the meal.

Have you voted yet? Who is your ultimate Ramen Champion?

The 6 popular ramen shops from Japan set up temporarily here to compete for the ultimate Ramen Champion for 2011. They will be here till next year end of June to battle for the title. We are encouraged to try them all and then to vote for the one and the only Ramen Champion.

Trained Japanese Ramen Chef and its helpers man all these stalls, you might be surprised that some of these Chefs and its helpers might not even understand English. Even if they do not, they will always smile or nod to express their appreciation towards your support by saying, 'Arigato!'

I have tried all and my vote for the Ramen Champion is Taishoken. Chef Kazuo Yamagishi heads it. He is famous for having invented tsukemen, an extremely concentrated broth made from chicken, pork and anchovies. One of the most important deterrents of a good ramen is the ramen itself; it must have the springy and the smooth texture. And, the next deterrent has to be the broth; it should have the right balance of the essence of the chicken and the pork. Other than the ramen and the broth, the flavored egg and Chasu played important roles too. It served along with bamboo shoots, fishcake and seaweed as well.

Only if the above factors are gotten right then it would be possible to serve a good bowl of ramen with the taste of the heaven.

Come on down to try it then to vote for the ultimate Ramen Champion. Only the winner will get to stay permanently and the rest have to be gone!

Strongly recommended.

Chicken gyoza - Ikkousha (5 pieces for $5)
THe gyoza (dumpling) is also nice. So far i've eaten, this is the best, but i believe this is not the best in Sg. Anyway, this is recommended too.

I had a super bad braving for ramen. Hence, I dated one of my best friends and headed down to Bugis. I ordered this boiled of normal ramen. The soup was tasty but was slightly salty as how ramen usually is. The flavour of the soup made from pig's broth was delicious and string. The meat was tender and mixed well with the ramen.

i ordered the Black soup base ajitama ramen! totally awesome, why? because the soup is just different and unique. first mouth of it tastes abit like hebal dark rice soup, den when the flavor absorb by your taste bud after a few mouth, its one word: nice. the ramen is good, pork (hav gt nth to say but awesome-ness) its so soft and you can taste the layer of fats melts into your mouth. same goes for the egg (not overcook, just nice, keeping the soft layer of egg white and 3/4 cooked egg yolk.) all in all, try it. cost ard $14 in total. staffs is good, service attitude is good.

nice interior design out there, the use of wood, raw concrete finish ground, bamboo, soft lighting. love it!

I visited Ramen champion at iluma recently and i tried their black ramen as recommended by a friend. My conclusion: the black ramen is really overrated.. Iluma has a rather low aircon temperature so do bring along a jacket if you're not fond of the cold.
