Located near the information counter, one could not help but stop to look at this outlet. It is a ramen outlet which is known reasonable prices. The outlet is decorated with colorful pictures of cute cute all over the place.Looking through the single page menu, there was limited selections of ramen and rice dishes with some side dishes. One would be given a number tag after payment at the cashier.Hirashi Chuka Ramen ($9.90)Cold Ramen. Light and Refreshing.Really cooling to have. The ramen was soaked in shoyu dressing, topped with shredded cucumber, omelette, crab stick, sesame seeds and seaweed. No matter how I mixing, the dish still tasted quite bland to me. The ramen could not soak up the flavour of the dressing.Recommended by the staff, I also topup $3 for 3 pieces of gyoza and free flow green tea and iced lemon tea. However immediately after I had filled a glass of iced lemon tea from the dispenser, the machine was cleaned up for the day. It was not even 9pm yet. Felt being short changed. The gyoza was served with a chilli oil shoyu mixture. It was juicy and meaty.Overall food was just so-so. Just the place looked cute. continue reading

The Ramen Monster shop is a Japanese Ramen Noodle shop on the ground floor of Novena Square Velocity (238 Thomson Road Novena Square Velocity #01-53). The ramen restaurant was a small place with very colourful comic murals. Mrupupup ordered regular size of Tonkotsu Ramen $8.90. The shop also sells type of other ramen (menu below). Good that there was no service charge & GST on the menu prices. The colourful wall mural made up for an interesting eating experience and the ramen took about 6 minutes to arrive. The ramen noodle here was tender & chewy and it was good. Mrupupup got a choice of regular fatty or lean char siew meat. The wonderful thing was the shop gave one full egg with nice yolk inside! The soup was yummy and the best thing was it had no MSG!!!!! Mrupupup hates the after taste of MSG which makes one super in need of water after eating ramen. Some shops in Singapore selling ramen could have so much MSG that Mrupupup would be in need of water for the whole day! Signature Tonkotsu Ramen - Mrupupup drank every drop. Slurp!!! Mrupupup felt not thirsty indicating that the soup was pure goodness without any silly short cuts in making the soup. Waaahhhhh, Mrupupup has changed to Ramen Monster!!!!! http://mrupupup.blogspot.sg/2013/11/ramen-monster-at-novena-square-velocity.html continue reading

We browsed the menu on the display stand outside the newly opened Ramen Play Restaurant but decided to give it a miss as a meal there would cost at least $20 after service charge and GST. With flatter wallets after all the CNY splurging we walked further into the mall to Ramen Monster for our ramen fix. The Pork Curry Ramen ($8.90 nett ala carte) was surprisingly good. Concentrated toothsome curry gravy with generous slices of pork that had been braised in the homemade gravy and big chunks of carrot, white radish & potato which added fibre and sweetness to the dish. It is obvious that the curry was of wholesome homemade quality - unlike many Japanese restaurants like Ajisen and Ichiban whose curry had a grainy residue and bits of carrots and potatoes, indicating that the curry had been prepared using factory produced curry mixes. Curry chicken ramen is also available at the same price. We topped up $3 for the set meal which includes three pieces of panfried homemade gyoza and free flow of green tea or iced lemon tea from the self service drinks bar. There is no service charge here and all menu prices are GST-inclusive. continue reading

The phrase 'This is crazy' keeps repeating itself over and over again in my head while I struggled to finishthis giant bowl (about 2 and 1/2 normal bowl) of ramen to complete the monster challenge. My friend looked worried that I may collapse while eating. I loved the stunned look on the uncle's face when I managed to finish by 19 mins. (As long as it does not exceed 20 mins) I almost puke after eating it, as the noodles was the killer. I could not really enjoy the ramen as I was rushing through it, and I earned the $21 voucher for the next visit! continue reading
