Once completed with the conversion, we headed to Geylang Bahru Market and Food Centre for lunch. Situated in a mature estate, I knew I was in for a good session of food hunt!My initial plan was to order wanton noodles but changed my mind without second thoughts when I saw the real product. Scouting a little more, the humble unit of Red Stove Fried Prawn Mee stall caught my attention!Prawn Mee with more noodle and pork ribs for $5! Good portion of noodles with three large prawns. Ribs were tender through and the meat peeled off effortlessly. More importantly, the soup base was the bomb! I don't usually order soup based food nor finish them up, but I did for this!So what are you waiting for? This is definitely a worthy bowl of Prawn Mee Soup and come on down before the lease is up!  continue reading

This used to be one of my fave stall at this hawker center. Used to eat it often for supper when I was younger. We used to have to wait very long for the owner to fry the noodles and there was always a long que. These days there is still a que but not as long as they used to be .It is still one of the nicer hokkien mee I have eaten but somehow it has lost the "oomph'' of its yesteryears. Chilli is still good, but pity the gravy is not as wet as I wish it was continue reading

This stall is quite popular in Geylang Bahru hawker center. I gave it a try for the first time and I don't think I will go back again. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't taste that bad, but it is just not done the way I like. The noodles is pretty dry and not much gravy. Flavour wise, it doesn't have strong prawn taste, perhaps the prawn gravy stock is not rich enough, and needs some improvements for sure. continue reading

You can see literally the amount of heart and effort the uncle puts into cooking each batch and preparing each plate. It is no wonder this stalls serves great hokkien mee. Each packet would come with 2 pieces of prawns and the amazing chilli! It actually has ikan billis in the chilli and when you swirl it to each scope of hokkien mee, simply wonderful. Only regret I didnt manage to consume it there due to time constraints as I believe it would have tasted better if eaten on the spot. continue reading
