Rong Liang is a standalone restaurant that specialises in Hong Kong style Roast Meats . The shop tucked away in the West Coast / Clementi West area . It is right behind the West Coast Market and Food Centre . The restaurant is more like an old school kopitiam , no air-conditioning and they have servers that bring you your ordered food .This place is a perennial favourite among the residents nearby . Due to its proximity to NUS , you get a lot of students coming here to get their Roast Meat fix .

This place is a perennial favourite among the residents nearby . Due to its proximity to NUS , you get a lot of students coming here to get their Roast Meat fix . They have the usual offerings of Roast Duck , Roast Pork , Char Siew and Roast Chicken . Among the bunch of their offerings , their Roast duck is the star here. Roast to perfection , the duck meat is tender , fragrant and not too fatty . The duck meat is not very gamy and most importantly it has very good meat to fat ratio . I dislike my roast duck to be too fatty .

Beside the various roast meats , they also offer various steamed soups to go with your meal . They can have up to 10 types of soups on the menu. Wanton noodles are also available , you can order noodles to go with your roast meats .

I frequent this place quite often as I stay nearby . Most of the time , I’ll tapao back as the place can be quite crowded during meal times . I visited the place last Sunday , as it was pretty late in the afternoon , it was not packed and I decided to have my meal there .
I ordered a Roast Duck rice and a bowl of watercress soup . The steam rice is pretty normal , a little dry I would add but the gravy that was ladled over the rice was pretty good . The dark luscious flavourful was both sweet and savoury which made all the difference . The roast duck portion given was pretty decent considering the plate only cost $3 .

The watercress soup was served in a little metal bowl . For $2.50 , the soup had a decent amount of ingredients in it . The soup was warm and comforting , something I’ll crave during rainy days.

In total I spent $5.50 for this meal. Pretty good value for money I’ll say . Cheap and good. If you’re in the area do drop by to visit them .

Shrimp wanton noodles - $3Actually I ordered the wanton noodles but they gave the shrimp wanton instead. There was no meat in the wanton but a shrimp wrapped in wanton skin. The chilli was spicy enough and I like the noodles gravy which was quite tasty and very flavourful. ngoh hiang balls 3 for $1. This was quite decent. If you are craving for ngoh hiang, you can get these.Stewed chicken wing $1.20The chicken was not tender and had a stringy texture so I didn't like it.

The char siew's portion was good and eating it with the green chopped chilli made it more tasty as it gave it extra flavour even though it was not spicy. duck rice $3There were lots of duck meat in it, totally worth the price of $3! I took away a bowl of spinach wanton char siew noodle $3. even though the noodles were packed in a container bowl, there was no takeaway charges! the spinach noodles had a little bit of the strong "noodle" taste which i didn't like but the texture was good - quite qq and springy. There was no spinach flavour in the noodles though. There were 2 wantons and plenty of char siews which was tender, well-marinated and very meaty! nice!Overall, i'll go back again

I ordered a plate of roasted duck rice for $3. the portion was really good. There were lots of meat and considering that it is $3 only, it is quite cheap. I also got a bowl of old cucumber soup for $2.50. there were surprisingly 4 pieces of soft pork bones which were not small at all, and the old cucumbers. They were bigger as compared to the ones I could get elsewhere. It was certainly a value for money meal.

Roasted Chicken still looks cripsy at the outer skin and juicy as before. However, we find that standards have dropped. The yellow noodle was not well cooked and not as springy as before. My colleague who was having the spinach noodle looks worse. She mentioned that the noodle were almost uncooked.

Spinach noodles seemingly contains some healthy properties and this is my partial reason of choosing this dish out of so many available dishes.

We ordered 3 cups of warm barley. Barley is average but they gave us hot barley and as we suck in from the straw, we almost get our tongue burnt. Be cautious about it.
Costs: S$1.20 each

Environment is as crowded this afternoon, we can hardly get ourselves good seating but to sit beside the drinks refrigerator. we just have to make do with the heat that emits out of the refrigerator - "forget about the heat and remember the good food!".

Pricing is great and definitely worth your pocket money for a decent Cantonese fix!

Ordered the Char Siew and roasted duck rice which cost $3.50. Oh heavenly, the roasted duck skin is so cripsy and the sweetness of roasted sauce over the rice had make everything blends in so well. On top of that, I like it as the gravy is all over my rice. Yammy!

Barley drink costs $1.20 (Warm/cold), special about it is that they cook it with winter melon and it tastes different.

Service
Service is fast! The moment you order your food it comes within 5 minutes shortly after your drinks were served.

Ambience
What I like about this place is that you can have a big group of colleagues sitting together enjoying a nice meal without having tables splitted. however it may be quite squeezy during the lunch hour crowd and you may have to squeeze through the narrow walkways between tables.

Price
Affordable and reasonable pricing. It is good and definitely worth the calories!

Recommendation / Tips
Must be quick to grab a good seating during lunch hours.

This duck rice, roast pork and char siew meat stall had been in the Clementi West District for a number of years, located inside a kopitiam stall for a number of years, slowly gaining their customer base and followers around the housing estate and workers from the nearby industrial areas.

When the opportunity came for them to have their own place, taking over 2 shophouses and combining into a restaurant. From their sure hit roast duck and roast pork, they expanded their dishes selection to noodles, more soups and some zhi char dishes too at their current restaurant.

During lunch time, it can get pretty crowded with people from all walks of life, students to working adults. Their most popular dishes would be roast duck and roast pork, their gravy is nice and thick, fits in nicely to the rice and meat portions. Although they do have char siew, roast chicken, sausages, the roast duck and roast pork still stands out. They have a variety of soups too and it's not too bad too, you might want to consider trying them !

They have a number of helpers since they have quite a lot of customers at times during the peak hours, thus their service is quite good and fast. If you plan to come during lunch time, do prepare for the crowds ! Hope u enjoy the different variety of dishes there !
