Ryoshi Sushi make up one of the Japanese restaurants in Westgate, located side by side to restaurants serving identical cuisine in level 3. Interior of Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru has a very modern appearance of a typical Japanese restaurant with conveyor belt in the middle filled with dishes of freshly prepared sushi .With such a system in the middle of the restaurant it took up a big area leaving the sides seats to diners of a bigger group. However, if you prepare not to be dining at the sushi counters, you can still choose to have the seats on the sides.Interior has also brought some Japanese culture with the use of drawnup fishes on its wall and wooden like fore ceiling. MenuHaving Ipad ordering isn't the norm nowadays. Even in Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru, we can order our items through the electronic devices and even call our bills via the application on the device. However if you still want some personal touch, their friendly staff are at very good assistance and all ready to take our orders.Part of their promotion, we had an assortment of sushi set that comes at an offer pricing with a main bowl of noodles. Sushi were fresh and helpers were fast in serving. On a side note, there is an option for consumers to inside / exclude wasabi in their sushi, which I think is very good. And those who want to have more, each table are readily equipped with a box of wasabi.Sushi selections like Nama Sakura Ebi which is also known as the raw cherry shrimps are available. It was rather special to see such unification, meatballs with sushi. Each sushi has two halves of the meatball coated with sweet teriyaki sauce with mayonnaise sauce topping up its taste. Either the teriyaki sauce had superseded the meatball taste or it was too bland. However, I still find the plate rather unique out of so many Japanese restaurants I went. Initially I thought I had ordered some fried mushroom till I recalled that I had actually ordered a deep fried octopus. Well, these octopus were thinly battered and fried to golden brown in color, good that they were crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside. Also, not too greasy!Udon with Sea lettuce may sounds plain and boring. However, it was not what I had thought and instead, the bowl of of noodles was appetizing. The perception of thick noodles with a few pieces of seaweed was immediately thrown away when I had my first mouthful. Udon was slim and smooth, accompanied but the natural sweetness of the Sea lettuce with a little saltiness. Though the soup base was hot and we could still feel the heat emitting, it was very inviting - we could not stop at just one scoop but a few scoops. A fusion of the french dessert, Mille Crepe in the Japanese Flavours of Macha and red bean. Though it tasted semi sweet and rather delighting after a meal, I still find that the cake was a tad dry, perhaps a little more moisture on in it would have make it a perfect choice!Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru is reasonably price and service orientated. If you are a fan of Itacho Sushi, you may like them too. continue reading

We were attracted by the rather reasonable prices and cosy ambience of Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru and decided to lunch there.Udon ($6.80++)The udon was quite springy but I found the soup base to be too salty for my liking. The tempura flakes were a little soggy as well and did not value add much to this dish.Assortment of Sushi ($6.80++)The sushi tasted much better! The vinegar taste in the rice was quite strong but not overpowering – making it appetising and palatable. We were also rather impressed by the softness of the rice which blended well with the various toppings, especially the salmon and tuna.  continue reading

My adventure at Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru (Westgate) began with the foreign looking Negi Natto. Natto is actually Japanese fermented soybeans and I've never tried it before. Somehow, my friends managed to convince me to try it... and I'll probably never do that again. The taste is rather weird and it is sticky too, not very pleasant. Oh well! But it is an interesting try. Now I know what natto tastes like. For the main course, I picked the Bukake Udon + Bara Chirashi Donburi - $13.40++ which was extremely value-for-money. You get a bowl of rice (the equivalent of slightly bigger than the usual rice bowl) AND a huge bowl of udon for this price. In other words, two people can actually share this! But I was feeling really hungry so I had both to myself. Oops! The bara chirashi donburi is made up of a generous assortment of sashimi and juicy prawn roe... yummy! Would love it if it's more chilled like sushi in a rice bowl but I guess it's not supposed to be like that. The udon was quite good too but don't expect too much of the quality since you are getting a lot of quantity for this already We also had the usual makis - Toro Takuan Maki - $3.80 which is made of tuna and Japanese pickles. Their maki range is much better than their mains but proportionately more expensive too. Maki: delicious pops. One plate of Big Salmon - $2.80 each, and it's barely enough! Their salmon is quite fresh, chilled and juicy.I love this - Salted Caramel ice-cream - $2.80 and I totally recommend you to get it. Remember to get them to drizzle more caramel though. I tried Salted Caramel at Tom's Palette and Udders but they tasted a little off but somehow, the salted caramel here is perfect. It comes in the form of three tiny balls of ice-cream in an iced bowl.By the time I reached this, I'm almost too full but the Dorayaki - $5.80 (filled with azuki) in comparison to the previous dessert was not as appealing to me because it's not exactly complementary to the ice-cream (which is still salted caramel). But for those who aren't full enough, you can always order this! All in all, Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru might not be as perfectionist as Itacho Sushi about their sashimi but they are pretty good in their own right. Some of the menu selections are really value-for-money and they have quite a good variety for you to choose from as well. Their seating area is quite big but yet the waiting queue might be a little long on Friday nights (30 minutes). Nevertheless, it is one of the restaurants where you can camp inside and chit chat for the whole night. For more food adventures, follow me at http://spherepiece.blogspot.sg/ continue reading
