Omelette with cheddar, mushrooms & onions ($21)
Served in a metal plate, with a slice of bread underneath.
A bit tough to slice the bread. The omelette left behind a layer of oil. Somehow reminded one of pan fried egg with onions at home with its char edges. Could not taste the cheddar in it.

Latte ($5)
Quite rich with a slightly chocolaty and bitter taste.

Overall the food was not bad. Place was crowded and quite noisy too.

Ambience at Sarnies calls to mind the hipster cafes of Melbourne, Australia, with their rustic wooden furniture and eclectic decor. The dimly lit interior is heady with the aroma of robust coffee, though the cramped interior can get noisy when crowded. The relaxing exterior al-fresco dining by the roadside allows for people watching, though bad weather can be a concern.

Service at Sarnies is partial self-service, while ordering and payment is done over the counter, staff will serve orders to your table. There's some minimal interaction with the cashier, and staff are generally friendly. The menu cards are small and provide sufficient information, you'll rarely need to ask staff for more. Waiting time for orders can stretch up to 15 minutes during peak periods though.

Food at Sarnies is all about hearty, rustic, filling sandwiches and mains. Primarily British English / Australian in style, the portions at Sarnies are large and filling, made with fresh, tasty ingredients. Presented in a simple, rustic, straight forward manner, the food can be unashamedly greasy at times. They're mostly known for their breakfast / brunch and sandwiches. Prices are typical of a cafe, budget about SGD $27 per person for a meal here.

The Cortado (SGD $5) is robust and strong, great as a morning pick-me-up beverage. You get the good, strong flavour of the roasted coffee beans, and just a hint of the creamy milk.

The Hot Chocolate (SGD $6) here is very good, with a thick, smooth texture, and a rich, deep flavour of chocolate. Love the precise chocolate art pour! Warming like a hug, this is worth ordering!

The Fry-Up With Eggs, Shrooms, Baked Beans, Home Cured Bacon & Sausage (SGD $24.50) is their rendition of the classic British English fry-up breakfast. I must say that each component here is done well, the scrambled eggs are soft and fluffy, the baked beans in house made tomato gravy are tangy and sweet, the toasted bread is crusty, firm, and crunches nicely. The sauteed wild button mushrooms are tender and earthy, the large herb pork sausage is meaty and juicy within. Love the generous amount of home cured bacon as well, which is crisp and crunchy! This huge portion is sufficient for 2 people, and while it's not the most tasty, it's a solid, straight forward classic, done well.

The Omelette With Cheddar, Mushrooms & Onion (SGD $21) had a slight drawback, it was more greasy than I would have liked. This is somewhat mitigated by the toasted bread, which helps to soak up the excess oil. Extremely filling, the fluffy egg omelette is stuffed with sauteed onions, wild button mushrooms, and gooey cheddar cheese. Portion is sufficient enough for 2 people, and while it's not the very best I've had, this dish is still pretty good. Pure, straight forward comfort breakfast. Good!

First appetizer of the meal was this Triple C – Curry Crab Crocketts ($14). Don’t mistaken them for mozzarella cheese sticks! Within each of them are filled with flow-y piping thick hot curry crab sauce. The texture well resembles that of mozzarella cheese sticks just that instead of cheese fillings, it’s hot curry crab sauce fillings. Although i’m not too sure what kind of crab am i suppose to expect inside, but it tasted good enough for a finger food! The curry is not too spicy, the flavor falls a little between Japanese and Indian curry.

Next up was Avocado Fritters served with Spicy Lime Sauce ($10). It’s my first time seeing how avocado can be served differently on the dining table. It’s simply avocado balls coated with crumbs. A bite into the ball and you can feel the creaminess and richness of the fruit itself. The spicy lime sauce on the other hand was pretty light, so it went well with the richer tasting avocado and balances the flavor.

Last appetizer of the meal C4 Bomb – Truffle Mash wrap with Home-Cured Bacon ($12). The mash potatoes is of super smooth and fine consistency with subtle truffle taste. The bacon used to wrapped around it was a little crispy yet not oily and with a little saltiness to it. The pairing with avocado puree makes it a delightful combination.

This Cajun Spiced Paperbag Chicken ($14) consists of 3 drumsticks/thighs part well marinated with cajun spices. The chef really took good control of the heat and cooked it to perfection. With the skin a little charred, and the meat inside remains tender, juicy and flavorful. The cheese sauce that accompanied with it complements the overall taste really well and makes this dish kind of addictive! I could easily finish this whole portion by myself. It’s really that good.

Finally here come the first main – Thai Disco Pasta ($15). Pretty interesting name they have there, and when we were asking for recommendation, we were warned that Thai Disco is very spicy not for the faint heart! But when i had a taste of it, i was pretty disappointed, not that the dish was bad, but the spiciness level and omph that i was expecting, it’s simply missing. Nevertheless, this pasta dish is pretty good. Why is the name Thai Disco Pasta? Simply because of the ingredients used – Basil, Kaffir and Chilli padi, the very 3 ingredients that you will never miss it in any authentic thai food. The whole dish was aromatic and the spaghetti was cooked to al dente. A simple dish yet with all the main flavors locked into it.

Kabocha Pumpkin Risotto with Prosciutto Ham ($16) was the last main we had for the night. Kabocha Pumpkin is commonly known as Japanese pumpkin with its sweetness higher than a typical sweet potato or pumpkin. It looks kind of different from a typical risotto right, doesn’t it? Yet, the consistency and the rice is pretty much similar to that of a risotto nonetheless. The overall dish is full of natural sweetness from the Kabocha Pumpkin making it a pretty light dish but with the presence of Prosciutto Ham enhancing and bringing out the flavor of the risotto.

Of course, we need desserts to end off a meal – Churros with whipped cream, chocolate and salted caramel dips ($10). I guess I still like my churros with chocolate dips, it’s still the best combination of all! Whipped cream dip seems to be a little too light for it, maybe it will be better, if it’s used as a filling instead. Salted caramel dip pairing was pretty mediocre too, maybe the consistency of the dip was not right, so the flavor does not really goes well with the churros. The churros here are pretty thick and sweet on its own, it gets a little too ge-lard after one stick.
Overall, Sarnies dished out pretty good and interesting food that was different from the norm. The ambiance makes it good for a night chill out after a day of work in the CBD area.

Yes probably one of the best cafes around the area - Sarnies.1. The Churros So fortunate that we were the first few to taste this dish new on the menu. I guess trying to ride on the hype of item. 1. THE COFFEE

Yes, the item which constantly draws me back to Sarnies is their mocha. At S6.50, the mocha served here is slightly charred yet having a sweet after taste, the blend of coffee mixing well with the chocolate. I can truly say it is one of the best around the area.

2. Sarnies Chocolate Brownie

You gotta try it to believe. Rich, super chocolaty and moist. Every bite almost melts in your mouth and is complemented by a vanilla ice cream. It's best to share due to its richness. Nonetheless, the must order if i want a sugar rush

3. Risotto

When the cafe first started with a dinner menu, i was quite hesitant to try. Seldom do cafes serve good dinner items. It took me probably a few weeks later to finally succumb to temptation.

Yep. served only during dinner, this dish was the highlight. Their risotto is amazing. Its tough to even think of places in Singapore selling good risottos, but the chef made it look real easy. Just how it should be done - saucy in texture, flowing almost like a lava when tilted. Grains are soft yet different from hard enough to differentiate one grain from another. A must try!! I dont think its on the menu - mushroom risotto (i cheated and asked for bacons to be added as well).

Chicken and homemade pesto with mixed greens

served during lunch, Sarnies has a variety of salads and sandwiches. It may be alittle pricey, but the portions are large and very healthy. Good for sharing in my opinion.

My visit there was on Sunday and the place is about 3/4 filled. Placed my order and decided to sit at the two seaters at the back near the kitchen, where I can see the whole cafe and have a feel on what happening in the kitchen. The décor is simple, with combination of wooden furniture. Place is a bit cramp, but they manage to maximise the seating arrangement. Ambiance was good especially with their music selections.

I did not wait long before my 'The Fry Up' ($25.90) was on the table. Two fried eggs, home cured bacon, a pork sausage, homemade baked beans, grilled mushrooms and sourdough toast. Wow, the portion is so generous. Sunny side up eggs are done perfectly with the oozing yolk. Bacons are thin and crispy like chips but not to salty. Mushrooms were buttery, while the sausage is on the hard part, thus the juicy part is missing. Nice portion of sourdough bread. The best part was their homemade baked beans. Unlike the canned version that I have nightmare with, I enjoyed the Sarnies version. It is flavourful, good texture of the beans and tasted like American chilli beans.

To accompany my breakfast, I had homemade Lemon Lime Bitters ($7.50). My favourite drink. The Sarnies version use fresh squeeze lemonade to add a bit of zing into the drink. Nice and refreshing.

Of course I did not forget about to order the coffee. Latte ($5) was my choice and come with good latte art. It is smooth and creamy. Well balanced and not too acidic. With the natural lighting, I think it is one of my best latte shot.

Service is friendly and they looks like they are having a good time while they are working. For order, you need to go to the counter to place order and pay first. Self service water bar is available too.

Overall, a very good place that serve fantastic breakfast. Excellent portion! I will definitely be back for more. Cheers Mate!!!

It was hard not to feel a wave of nostalgia as I walked through the doors and saw the chalked boards which displayed the cafe's offerings with salads, sandwiches and the wine display at the side because it was like any 'typical' cafe you would step into Down Under.

It was also noticeably obvious that most customers were regulars, evident from the friendly banter exchanged while the counter staff were taking orders though this is hardly surprising as they were very down-to-earth and genuine people. Because of the small seating area indoors and unless you were willing to sit outdoors in the sweltering heat, many people walked in and left with big brown paper bags as takeaways instead.

Known for their fresh ingredients and hearty portions, we decided to get a salad + sandwich + brownie to share so that we would be able to finish everything and at the same time, sample a little of everything!

We chose the Pesto Special which was a daily special salad. A large bowl of really fresh mixed lettuce, shredded chicken, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes with the biggest dollop of Pesto dressing ever! This homemade basil pesto dressing is the best pesto I have had by far. Great blend of crushed garlic, basil and olive oil with bits of pine nuts that just pulled the entire salad together with its flavour and almost creamy consistency. We loved it so much we had to ask if the dressing was for sale. And guess what? It is! Just call a couple of days ahead, place your order and you can go down to collect your very own container of basil pesto dressing..imagine how awesome al dente spaghetti would taste with that pesto!

Next up was their crowd-pleasing Aussie Grass Fed Steak, dijon mustard, mixed lettuce, mushrooms and caramelized onions that is only available for lunch. The bread is apparently handmade and baked by the owners each day and is a hit with customers. Unfortunately, the crust was a little too rock hard for me and I was finding difficulty in biting through the sandwich, which was frustrating because the layers of steak, mushrooms and caramelized onions spilling out of the sandwich looked so inviting.

And of course being the unlucky ones who did not get a seat indoors, we were perspiring in the humidity when we noticed that everyone around us were enjoying this iced drink so we asked the server what it was before ordering our own because it looked too irresistible especially in this weather! This Iced Lemon Mint Tea was very light, refreshing and the answer to the heat. It is really a must order at Sarnies especially if you are sitting outdoors, it makes all the difference and quenches your thirst without an aftertaste. We gulped this down pretty quickly!

Moving onto dessert...do not look lowly on this small rectangular brown cake because the first forkful will blow your mind. This Sarnies brownie is possibly the fudgiest, most chocolatey brownie that is so moist and not too sweet at all. No, the people at Sarnies are not being stingy by selling such a small piece but this is because it's just the right size for you to enjoy and be satisfied.

Check out how moist it is on the inside and the well baked crumbs it is made of. Absolutely delish. All chocolate lovers will definitely love this. Guaranteed!

Overall, Sarnies sells real food in large portions at nett prices that makes a healthy and satisfying meal. And if you are a coffee connoisseur, then you must definitely try a Sarnies brew which I hear is really good. Love the chilled and laid-back atmosphere with great personable staff but if you can, try to avoid the 12-2pm lunch crowd and I am sure you will be able to better enjoy this place and all its offerings.
