This was my favourite. Not only me, but this award-winning chowder from Pike Place Chowder has not failed to impress most at the table. With its ingredients freshly imported from Seattle, it was flavourful and rightly thick.

Unfortunately, this was my least favourite as I felt the taste of the salmon is a little strong for me. This would sit well with those who loves a smoky hint in their soups.

Each soup takes about 15 minutes to prepare, but it is worth the wait.

We went tasting for 3 types of chowders served by them.

Chowder

With Bread Bowl from $12.90 - $14. Without Bread Bowl vary from $8.90 onwards.

1. New England Clam Chowder

This was my favourite. Comprising of Chopped Ocean Clams, potatoes, celery, onion, thyme, white pepper, sea salt, clam stock, butter and flour.

Served in a crispy bread bowl prepared fresh from the kitchen is the best way to ensure your soup stays warm and 'smoky' throughout. We were amazed by the high "insulation" of the breadbowl. Even 20 mins down after serving. Besides the bread was crusty and not toughen. It was very easy to tear the bread apart, accompanied with which chowder choices, served as a fufilling yummy and soupy meal.

The smoked taste is quite intense foe this chowder and if you don't really prefered a 'burnt' aftertaste, this is perhaps not for you.

New England Clam Chowder
It was served with the bread bowl and we took quite a while to enjoy the soup as we are busy taking photos. Surprisingly the soup is still warm in the bread bowl. I enjoyed the broth as it is rich and creamy with generous ingredients such as chopped ocean clams, potatoes, celery, onions, white pepper, sea salt and clam stock. You can imagine how flavourful the taste in it with the different types of ingredients is placed together.

If you are a seafood lover, you can enjoy this rich flavour of seafood chowder. There are salmon, cod, crab, bay shrimp, garlic, black pepper, sea salt, tomato basil cream broth, shellfish stock, cream, butter and flour. The broth is creamy with savoury taste of all the seafood ingredients.

Smoked Salmon Chowder
You can taste the strong smokey smell of the chowder. So, either you like it or you opt out. This is not my cup of soup but some of the openricers enjoyed the broth. Ingredients such as smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, potatoes, onions, celery, tomato, garlic, smoked salt, black pepper, shellfish stock, cream, milk, butter and flour. I prefer salmon sashimi over smoked salmon. Thus, the smell and taste of the smoked salmon is overwhelming for my preference. But the broth less creamy compared to the first two flavours.

The flagship store is located at Parkway Centre across from Parkway Parade, Marine Parade. Very informal and alfresco dining where you can just go in your tees, bermudas and flipflops.

Served in a bread bowl, this chowder stuffed with chopped ocean clams, potatoes, celery, onion, thyme, white pepper, seasalt, clam stock, half n half, butter n flour. Thick, creamy and robust texture which can easily fill your tummy. The bread bowl was unfortunately over toasted which resulted it being hard and tough, even pulling out the white "flesh" from the bread proved to be a challenge. Chowder could do with less salt. Regretfully to make a mention, I bit into a tiny piece of clam shell which fortunately didnt do damage. Perhaps it was an oversight for this particular serving.

After having the clam chowder, i find that the seafood bisque with plentiful ingredients of salmon, cod, crab, bay shrimp in a tomato basil cream broth tasted quite similar to the clam chowder except that it was slightly tomatoey. Quite salty so it is best to eat it with bread.

The smoked salmon chowder which was cooked down with cream cheese, capers, potoatoes, onion, celery and tomatoes, is my favorite among the 3. Not as thick & creamy, it leaves a very distinctive smoked salmon taste on the palette. Not overpowered by the cream cheese & capers, the smokyness and the saltyness were well balanced. Highly recommended if you love that "

We started with the New England Clam Chowder served in bread bowls. The soup was creamy, viscous and filled with ingredients - chopped ocean clams, potato, celery, onion, thyme, etc. Because it was clam broth, there was a succint sweetness to it and was quite smooth in taste and texture overall. The bread bowl was crispy from the start to the end - even after the soup was pretty much finished. It was amazing, and the bread bowl kept the soup warm for a long time, even though we were sitting outdoors.

Finally, Smoked Salmon Chowder was brought over by friendly Kenny. This soup was not as thick, compared to the previous two we'd tried, but retained the saccharine flavour of shellfish stock beautifully. Texture-wise, this was the silkiest of the three. Ingredients consisted of smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, potato, onion, celery, tomato and garlic etc, all complementing the taste of the soup very well. What left the deepest impression was the smoked salmon, redolent of a strong, fragrant, smokey taste that heightened the sweeter notes of salmon's own. I thought this was a rather close fight with the New England Clam Chowder earlier on.

From far, Seattle Pike Chowder wasn't obvious, i was quite hard to locate the location because its name plate placed at the right corner, a bit of hidden whereas Giovanni gelato was just nice next to McDonald and took up most of the space.

New England Clam Chowder

The broth is creamy and rich with Chopped Ocean Clams, Potatoes, Celery, Onion, White Pepper, Sea Salt, Clam Stock, Half-and-half, Butter, Flour. A lot of chunky goodness were filled and soup was served in a hot manner.

I do like the chowder ! It tasted good and best to eat with bread but the bread was not fantastic enough. Its texture is too chewy and it become hard though in a longer time. They could improve more on the bread to serve a better Bread bowl with chowder.

Seafood Bisque

Fresh and rich seafood chowder with Salmon, Cod, Crab, Bay Shrimp, Garlic, Black Pepper, Sea Salt, Tomato Basil Cream Broth, Shellfish Stock, Cream, Butter, Flour. It was one of favourite chowder of the night! There were a lot of seafood bites and the smell of its broth was no doubt. All the ingredients went into a savoury mix.

Smoked Salmon Chowder

A bit of salty and a very strong smokey smell of chowder. Although it has a lot of mixed ingredients such as Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Capers, Potato, Onion, Celery, Tomato, Garlic, Smoked Salt, Black Pepper, Shellfish stock, Cream, Milk, Butter, Flour on its Chowder and it is not as creamy as the other 2 chowders but the essence of smoked salmon was successfully blended in. I didn't like much on its Smokey burnt smell but those smoked salmon lovers are definitely like it !

Gelato is come from Germany. There are lot of flavour that impressed me a lot ! And i was confused which one i should to try .

There are also alcohol gelatos. The staff is friendly to ask whether we can take alcohol beforehand.  Both sweet alcohol of Eggnog and Amarena are the among of choices. If you prefer lesser stronger smell, Amarena would be good as Eggnog has a stronger alcohol smell

Pitcashio and Peanut Butter were highly recommended ! Both are only available on seasonal.

Spiced Chai Tea definitely can feel the little of bit spicy

After so much tasting, I decide to choose 3 flavour of the night !
Caramel Indulgence, Pistachio, and Amarena .
I like caramel so no doubt for me to choose caramel and is also nice with the peanut toppings. Pistachio is one of the gelatos that have to try ! Its rich and not creamy

The ice cream is melted very fast especially in al fresco dining area.

Situated next to the fast food giant & marine parade food centre, is a new food joint, Seattle Pike Chowder. Together with Giovanni.L gelato, they took up a booth-like unit with alfresco concept. From far, Seattle Pike Chowder wasn't obvious because gelato took up most of the space. The whole area was very airy at night and we were greeted by friendly & courteous staff. Positive impressions right from the start.
Total of 6 types of chowders on sale. Price ranges from $8.90 small bowl to $16.90 large bowl. Bread bowls are from $12.90 onwards.
We tried 3 types out of 6. First is New England Clam chowder in a bread bowl. As told by the marketing personnel Rachel, ingredients for chowders are imported from Seattle directly. Bread bowl is locally sourced.
New England Clam Chowder Breadbowl $12.90: The broth is very thick, peppery and creamy. It is very rich in taste. Ingredients were generous, spoonful of clams and vegetable in every scoop. I do like this heavy chowder but my personal preference will be a little less salty, best to go wif the bread to reduce the saltiness.
Total 10 sourdough bread bowl were served and more than half is burnt on the outside, too dry & hard.. Bread texture on the inside is too chewy, lack of fluffiness. Timing of heating the bread gotta be fine-tuned.
Smoked Salmon Chowder followed thereafter. We were given a small portion ($9.90) to try. The chowder gives off a very nice smokey fragrance even before I could taste it. First mouthful down my throat and I'm already immersed in it.
Smokey shellfish broth, shredded salmon & lotsa potato cubes inside, it's yum to max! Cream cheese is one of the ingredients added in the broth, although not distinctive but it does help the broth to be really smooth & more creamy.
Seafood Bisque- Among all 3 dishes I've tried, this Seafood Bisque is the least impressive. The overall presentation is congee-like, clotting & not smooth. Although we were told there are cod fish, salmon, shrimps, crab meat inside the bisque but all I scooped up were tomato cubes. Tomato based broth resulting in overwhelming sourish taste, diminishing the sweetness of seafood added.
Overall experience at Seattle Pike Chowder was good, love smoked salmon chowder the most. Compared to locally found diluted chowders, these we had at Seattle Pike are so much richer in quality. One of the foodie member in our group whom just came back from Seattle 2 weeks ago, told us that this tastes exactly like the version she had in Seattle
So I presume these authentic recipes by Seattle Pike Chowder Singapore branch will definitely attract more crowds from locals, expatriate and tourists. I will bring my friends here to try out other chowders on the menu and also the wide range of gelato by Giovanni L.

The soup is rich and creamy, filled with lots of chunky goodness and notes of the sea and the savoury taste of bacon in the taste. No wonder Pike Place Chowder got a second-place win for best clam chowder at the 33-year-old Great Chowder Cook-Off in Rhode Island in 2014 and voted “Nation’s Best” at Rhode Island’s Great Chowder Cook-Off for this soup.

This soup is voted “Nation’s Best” at Rhode Island’s Great Chowder Cook-Off. For one who does not like the taste of tomato and basil, this soup is surprisingly very good without the strong overpowering taste of basil.

Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Capers, Potato, Onion, Celery, Tomato, Garlic, Smoked Salt, Black Pepper, Shellfish Stock, Cream, Milk, Butter, Flour.
Out of the 3 soups which I have tried today, I think this has the most interesting taste with a kind of smoky burnt taste but without the char bitter taste. It is also quite addictive. I grow to like it as the more I have it.

Don't leave without trying the gelatos from Giovanni L. Its ice cream master Giovanni Lasagna was a world champion in 2007 and 2010.

One of the must try flavours is the Sicilian pistachio which is the recipe that won the championship in 2010. Giovanni L is a famous gelato shop in Germany with history that goes back to 1961. I am looking forward to trying smoked salmon with Philadelphia cheese or asparagus gelato by Giovanni L but it is not available.

The cafe is also known for its signature gelato coffee, which is available in 3 different versions priced from $6.90 to $8.90.

Caramella Affogato ($8.90)
This is one of the 3 affogato available. The espresso is freshly made from huge grand looking gold in colored coffee machine. Served with Giovanni L's vanilla flavoured gelato on crunchy caramlized bites, topped with light and crispy popcorns. The dessert makes an explosive combination in the mouth with all flavours and texture coming together.

Overall the food at this unique concept cafe is delicious and unique with its homey and rich soups, and its colorful variety of gelato.

To me a good New England Clam Chowder isn't just the chowder, but also the bread bowl. Their marketing staff, Rachel was well-versed in the details on how they source for ingredients. Since this place is literally marketed with "Seattle" on the signboard, all their chowders come directly from Seattle on a daily basis, to ensure top-notch quality.  Their bread however is made locally. The bread definitely isn't the same bread I had in Seattle. 

It was alot fluffier and not as tough, it may suit the locals more, but it is definitely a change. The bread we were served was slightly burnt all over the edges as well. I think some quality control could be in place here.

The chowder, was very rich, with chopped ocean clams, potatoes, celery, onion, thyme, white pepper, sea salt, clam stock, half and half, butter and flour. It is no wonder, your mind goes into oblivion trying to wonder what you are tasting. The clams itself were sizable but the potatoes were miniscule in comparison. The chowder tasted good in my opinion. Maybe I'm just more picky with the bread than the soup. 

But in all honesty, I really couldn't tell the difference between this clam chowder I had and the ones I had in Seattle and San Franciso other than the fact that, I'm missing a packet of saltine crackers.

Salmon, cod, crab, bay shrimp, garlic, black pepper, sea salt, tomato-basil-cream broth, shellfish stock, cream, butter and flour is what went into this delicious mix! There were lots of seafood bits to bite into, let alone the sweet fragrance of the broth.

This chowder very interesting, as a huge fan of smoked salmon I was intrigued by the tastes. Seattle's Pike Chowder managed to capture the essence of the smoked salmon blend it in with cream cheese and TA-DA! You have an amazing bowl of smoked salmon chowder. I highly recommend this to any fellow smoked salmon lover! The taste of the smoked salmon comes in strong, as an aftertaste.

This was a very creamy bowl of soup, not much to bite into, just good, flavourful chowder. A good compliment to any sandwich.

After we were done with the chowders, we moved onto a surprise gelato tasting. Rachel mentioned that the gelatos are brought in from Germany and decorated here in Singapore.

Here are some of my my favourite flavours, after trying almost all their flavours. They also have very westernized flavours such as Eggnog, and instead of having it just during thanksgiving, they will be serving it all year round!

There were several flavours that had alcohol in them, but were no signs to indicate, the staff just had to ask if we could take alcohol. The eggnog gelato was one of them, and it was my favourite, the tinge of alcohol sweetness was just perfect with some chocolatey bit goodness. I just wish they made eggnog milk shakes out of this, then my life would be complete!

The Pistachio was very rich and not as creamy as you would expect, it had a slightly rough texture which would indicate the pistachio bits embedded into the gelato.

As with any ice cream parlour in Singapore, they melt fast! Especially in areas that have al fresco dining. Having a wide range of gelatos gives me a feeling they are out to fight the already competitive gelato market. They do not offer typical flavours such as matcha or cookies and cream, but rather very unique flavours like Amorena which is a vanilla gelato with amorena cherries. It will blow your mind! Think of a super awesome raspberry ripple!

The bella stracciatella gelato was also one of my favourites, chocolate ice cream studded with white chocolate chunks and toasted hazelnuts!

I am excited to see how Seattle Pike Chowder will expand, having two brand outlets in Singapore. Their flagship store being here in Marine Parade and another cafe style shop in Dhoby Ghaut.
