It’s a monday & stall no.1 was closed. At 11.30am the queue was the usual 10+ pax. the other day when i fetched son from airport on 18.7.2014, we came here slightly earlier just before 11am on a friday. no2 stall was closed then & no. 1 was open & there was no queue, but soon after us the queue grew to 10pax. my son said no.2 stall usually has the longer queue.

Selara rasa has a few creative touches. there is a Led ticker that says “self service” & “closed on friday” etc. the menus shows like fish meal, chicken meal, full house, royal flush & royal rumble. full house include chicken wing & ikan kuning, royal flush add-on begedil & royal rumble add on otak. anyway today there’s no fish so we ordered a chicken meal each & added another chicken wing each & my son added otak. Having tried both stalls, my personal preference is for stall no.1. apart from what 1 reviewer identified – that stall no. 1 serves kacang, but not stall no.2, i discovered the reason i preferred stall no. 1 was (1) chicken wing batter for stall no.2 was too thick & crispy for my liking (2) stall no.2’s chilli was sweeter & less spicy than stall no. 2. those however were the reasons my son prefer stall no. 1, so this a very subjective personal preference. also for me, ikan kuning is a key item i want in my nasi lemak, so no fish, no thrill. lol.

There are two famous nasi lemak stalls in Adam Road Food Centre, side by side. One of them is the first shop of the food centre, this one is the second. Ironically, I find that the better one is in second place.

Most of the time when you're there you ought to be prepared to queue up for a good twenty minutes, because many people come in line not just to order one plate, or two boxes, but a party-load of it. That just shows how good it is.

The rice is always at such a good texture, though I find that its taste can be quite a hit and miss sometimes, and lacks that bit of coconut flavour to it. But Selera Rasa more than makes up for whatever's lacking with such good sambal chilli, so the rice becomes a little matter.

The gold is in the chicken. The colour is so wonderfully golden, you only have to look at it to tell that it will be such a crispy treat. Inside the chicken is still so juicy and so tender, though a little oily, and it makes you wish you had more than one on your plate - which is why I always ask for two.

Overall, this place ranks as one of the best nasi lemak in Singapore.

Was here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at 130pm, thank god there was no queue and only one other person ahead of me. I had asked for more chilli but the amount given was still quite little. My RR set comes with one otah (the bigger one usually sold at $2 or $3 elsewhere), one deep fried chicken wing, one kuning fish, 1 slice of cucumber . one fried egg, a bit of anchovies and fishcake (there was no more potato). Ok so RR does not include all items
. The rice tasted pretty normal to me but it was the chix wing, ikan bilis, kuning fish and chilli that impressed. The chix wing though looking a little overly fried was super crispy with nicely cooked meat inside. It doesn't feel oily as well. The ikan bilis was also crunchy, just like the kuning fish. Now i could understand the reason behind the long queue always. But at $5.50, it may not appeal to everybody i think.

I eaten their nasi lemak for many times. I always ordered the the set that got everything for $5.00. This set got fried chicken wing, otak, fried egg and begedil . The rice got strong coconut taste. I did not like the chicken wing. I think the flour was quite thick and the taste quite plain but it was crispy. The sambal chilli is sweet and not spicy. Overall a good eat but expensive.

As a nasi lemak lover, I could not miss this as I saw that it was listed as 1 of the 12 hawker contenders in the Gordon Ramsey's challenge. The nasi lemak is very delicious and I really love the otah even though it was served cold. You can see chunks of fish meat in the otah and it is sold at $1 each. The rice has a strong coconut taste however I find it too rough and slightly hard. It could be better if the rice is cooked properly though. The chicken wings were crispy and served hot. Overall, m

I'm going to write this review without excessive philosophizing, ranting or use of the "I" word. There will be no lengthy back story. I wouldn't be saying anything new anyway, since Selera Rasa has been on TV, blogged about and reviewed. Little wonder why, since this is arguably Singapore's best nasi lemak.

Imagine a simple 3 ingredient high. The rich fragrance of basmati rice simmered and steamed in coconut milk and pandan leaves, the abrupt spicy heat of a sweet chili pepper coulis, and the savory comfort of a curry-fried chicken wing. There are other condiments, a fried egg, cucumber slices and ikan bills, the ubiquitous accompaniment to any self-respecting nasi lemak, but your brain is past caring about these other players on the plate and your eyes struggle to focus on what it is exactly that you've put in your mouth that still has you reeling. It's the triumvirate of chili, rice and curried chicken wing....trust me.

I'd like to think I know a thing or two about nasi lemak, having had it just about every Saturday for tea since I was knee high to a cicak. So I think I speak with some personal authority on the matter of whether Selera Rasa is a worthy nasi lemak hall-of-famer. I think it is. I also think that Selera Rasa is a victim of it's own fame. All the media coverage creates unrealistic expectations in diners who flock here only to be disappointed when angels don't appear and next week's 4D numbers fail to materialize in the basmati. Don't expect too much, come with an open mind and set your senses free to explore and you will come away satisfied, if not pleasant surprised.

It really is just honest to goodness solid quotidian fare. Look beyond the bull-@$!# that's been piled on these guys by the media and see it for the single specialty master hawker stall that it is and you'll see what all the fuss is about. It's just a local stall that serves good honest nasi lemak. No gimmicks. No fancy service. Just think of all the superlatives that pepper reviews of the latest French restaurant, Italian joint or Spanish tapas place; why don't those same superlatives apply here? Based on flavor alone, I see no reasonable explanation why not...unless it's the bull-@#$% these places are throwing in your eyes.

Get real, get local, hug your local hawker today and tell him or her that you deserve better

Moreover, the special rice has a distinctive fragrance and irresistable flavour of coconut milk and pandan leaves and is well combined with the savory sambal chilli. The fried chicken wing is well marinated for very long hence is tasty and crispy.

The Price
Reasonably priced at $3 per plate

Overall
This is indeed one impressive nasi lemak that I will not hesitate coming back for more.

The LCD TV certainly helps to attract more people to the stall, attention seeking constant advertising display keep u entertained while u wait in the queue. Speed of work = slow, meal ordered = royal flush , $4.50, what is nice = chilli, the rest is average. Value for money = $4.50 per plate is definitely not cheap hawker fare Been there, done that, moving on.

I woke up late one day & din't have time to fix up a breakfast, so I rushed to work, without having breakfast. After reaching office, I felt really hungry & decided to drop by Selera rasa for a quick breakfast. I saw a breakfast set on their menu, so I ordered for it. Kaya toast, eggs & teh c. I din't want the eggs, so I just go the toast & tea. The tea was rich & strong & the sweetness was perfect. As i stood in the Q, the moving slides of their award winning nasi lemak kept me occupied, wow i thought to myself, this certainly has to be gooood, they have won so many nasi lemak over the past 14 yrs.

Well sadly, i was rather disappointed first with the service and second with the food.
I guess all that awards and certification left me wanting for more.
The uncle assumed I was asking for a take away and gave me my order in a box, next after waiting for the packed food to be unpacked and served onto my tray he forgot my otah as I had ordered a royal flush...oh well, he looked pretty flustered trying to get everyone's order asap,I did not even bother to ask for my otah.
The rice was good, but there was nothing too great about the chicken, just fried chicken and there was too little chill jus flattened onto the plate at one corner.

Don't think Il be trying that stall anytime soon again...

In addition, the special rice has the distinctive fragrance and irresistable flavour of coconut milk and pandan leaves and is well complemented by the savory sambal tumis. I decided to queue for the famous Nasi lemak at Adam Road Food Centre. Apparently a royalty from Brunei patronises this store and the queue was really long! the rice was not too mushy and the chicken had a good seasoning and not too much batter. A satisfying lunch!
