One of my friend, Rae brought us to have dinner at Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar!
I love this concept that's similar to Mache

Each of us was given a card to order food with, when we leave we can just bring the card to the cashier and pay our bills!
I find this concept quite innovative than the traditional retailers.
As for the food, we were so overwealmed with the choices!
All of us bought something different from another store so we can try all!
I bought the omu rice with grilled chicken and absolutely love the egg! It was just nice, not very dry

I ordered a matcha drink to go along with too, i love the taste so much that i had two cups

My colleagues bought chicken cutlet hamburger, rosti with sausage and egg, udon noodles, Okonomiyaki, Yakitori, japanese style omelette, Gyoza, shishamo and curry rice!
The chicken cutlet hamburger was quite nice and the rosti with sausage and egg is quite comparable to mache's

I didn't try the udon noodles but i had a taste of the pipping tasty soup.
The Okonomiyaki, Gyoza and Yakitori were very delicious but best of all i love the japanese style omelette!
I don't know why but i just love japanese style omelette or omu rice, the eggs are sweet rather than salty.
I didn't try the shishamo, just thinking about pregnant fish makes me go green

Lastly i ordered a waffle for us all to share, it was top with strawberry ice cream and chocolate sauce.
A perfect ending to our meal

Omu rice is a must try. I shared a dish with a friend and because the fish comes in huge portion, so we shared, and ordered an additional omu rice for just $2. The omelette is with additional $2 which i refuse to pay. The chef end up giving the egg to me for free. So it's very worth it for me.

Good to hangout with friends..

Over all, it is worth the money but i think that normal fried rice would be a better alternative to the tomato ones. The taste was too strong for my liking.

I also shared Chicken & Ham Okonomiyaki with my friends, which is basically pan-fried cabbage with chicken and ham. Pretty average, though the cabbage gives a crunchy feel to the dish.

I feel really at home whenever I visit Shokudo. The servers are always nice, and the atmosphere is really chill. Food is great and their pricing is reasonable as well. I got the spicy tuna nachos, itwas tasty!! Great flavors combined in for only $3! I also like their Tofu Salad and Bibimbap. These are definitely good choices when you want some good and safe choices, while at the same time trying for something healthier

When you enter the restaurant, each person will be given a card, that will be scanned at each individual stalls that you order your food. Payment will be made when you exit the restaurant.

The design of the this restaurant is really fantastic. There is a real size samurai uniform at the entrance. The seating areas are separated into different zones, each with a unique theme, representing modern Japan or some traditional elements incorporated in the designs. Thus if you sit at different areas during your different visits, it may feel different too.

The best part of this restaurant is that there is a lot of variety. Basically all types of Japanese food that you can think of is available here. Sushi, sashimi, ramen, tempura, teppanyaki, okonomiyaki, paper steamboat, japanese pizza, pasta, omu rice, curry rice, burger and fries, canned drinks, macha ice cream and deserts etc. I've been there four times and have yet to try a lot of categories.

My first recommendation would be their omelette. Made with different fillings such as ham and cheese, topped with mayonaise, it is one to remember and good to compliment your meals.

Next will be the grilled section. A lot of differerent skewers to choose from, such as chicken, bacon with bird's egg and unagi.

Another recommendation would be their pizza, it is the Japanese thin crust pizza, I especially liked the one with wasabi and seafood on it, gives a very special twist to the otherwise seemingly normal seafood pizza.

Ramen is not recommended though. Noodles are not springy enough and the soup does not taste like a lot of effort has been put in.

However, the drinks is a bit pricey. An alternative choice to ordering that will be purchasing some meal sets which comes with a free ice lemon tea.

My verdict: highly recommended for Japanese food lover who likes variety and Jap-fusion.

Went to Shokudo on a friday night and there was a long queue, all because there is promotion going on. Spending $100 will get $50 off the total bill with the vouchers. Still, for people like me who do not have vouchers, this seems like a un-needed long wait. I had the rosti, which comes with japanese curry sauce. I had the red bean creepe with green tea ice cream. The first thing that came to mind is that, the ice cream looked fake. Kind of like those who are on display set. But i like it, strong milky taste though.

Love Marche’s concept, but love Japanese food? Crave good ramen, but also sashimi, omu rice, rosti, Japanese desserts and skewed food?

The answer is easy: Shokudo.

This outlet at Raffles City is fashioned after Marche, but with a smattering of all the various Japanese dishes you can try.

My particular favourite was the fact that they serve up wafu sauce – a mix of Japanese soy sauce, rice vinegar and vegetable oil. I’m told Shokudo’s version had some secret ingredients too, so it tasted different.

So anyway, I went for the Soft Shell Crab pasta in wafu sauce. It was pretty good, with a huge helping of crab. Rather sinful. I quite enjoyed it, especially after a liberal showering of cheese and chilli flakes. It is not exactly the best dish, but it was good.

My companion had a very yummy omu rice. The rice was tomato-flavoured fried rice that was surprisingly yummy and not at all drying. Very flavourful. The egg was good too, as was the brown sauce and mayo drizzled on. It came with two Japanese-styled crabsticks. They are usually sweeter and fresher than the regular ones, but these were heated so the sweetness is gone.

(The real sweet ones come in a good-sized pack in most supermarts.)

What this place has going for them is its variety, as well as its good location. It also has a playarea for kids – so it is a good place for families.

Personally though, I prefer the intimate environment in their restaurant-style Shokudo outlets.

P.S. Do you know they also own Thai Express (very good mango salad) and Double Bay (yet to try, lemme know what’s good!)?

I ate at Shokudo a few times before I gave up on it. I have no idea why the queue is so long during peak hours! I've tried the ramen, as well as the teppanyaki. I don't really find it special, as the soup of the ramen was really salty. I also tried the dish with rice, side dish and an egg on top, and the rice did not even taste like the authentic Japanese rice that we so love.

One thing that I actually liked was the drink, there's this special macha drink that taste quite good, as the macha tea taste was really strong, yet sweet at the same time.

Prices can be quite comparable to Marche's. I guess the good part is that there's ample of space for gatherings to take place, and it really just feels like a food court once you are inside. Other than the Green Tea Macha, I do not recommend that you queue up for this restaurant.

The ham and cheese omelette was average only considering in which the dish is quite oily agian. Next time should tell them to cut back on the oil to be fried.Volume of the egg is there so when you eat it there is the wow feeling of eating the whole omelette (minus the fact that it is oily again).

The best thing at Shokudo which I must say is the value for money range of Japanese food. One will be spoilt for choices and there are times when I seriously can't make up my mind what to eat. Thus the birthday celebration was a great time for all of us to order something different each and share.

I simply love the skewers! One can choose from chicken wings to salmons, from quail eggs to prawns. They are simply delicious. For the main, guess I ordered something which was not as nice as I expected. It was a kind of Jap beef with rice and everything else (forgotten the name) and after the first whiff of the food, I thought with horror "Why was there a weird smell??". Around the table, everyone agreed and they even asked me to check with the chef. Well, not wanting to make a fuss, I tried to finish the whole bowl (with the help of some curry) and swearing never to order that again!

Nevertheless, it has always been a nice experience at Shokudo. Both my bf and I like the non-pricey range of Jap food and the warm atmosphere there so much, we even signed up for the membership. Now we have another favourite hangout makan place where we can earn rebates. Definitely worth it!

The sunny side up in the burger was a pleasant surprise and the pickle that was also inside was very nice and crispy.

We also had Sukiyaki Bento Set which consisted of a soup, rice, vegetable in dark sauce and a Japanese omelette. All in super small portion thou. Wasnt really filling. Only the omelette was good. So i suggest you buy the normal sized omelette instead. The veg was very very salty. Good to go with your rice i guess.

We also had Japanese Curry Tori Rice. Breaded chicken were very nice and crispy. The curry was average.

Last but not least, our all time favourite Rosti with German sausage. Its still the best dish available there even though its nowhere near Japanese. The ones at Marche is better though.

Not to forget. A bottle of Strawberry milk was $5+!

Overall, the food is just normal Japanese food that can be easily found in foodcourt stalls .(except for Rosti which is available either in here or Marche i think) However, they are really overpriced. I'd suggest you pay $19.80 to have the same spread and choices but at a free flow buffet at the Kiseki Japanese Buffet @ Heerens. (We spent abt $15 each for 4 dishes!)
