For me Pho is all about the broth, if it’s good the rest normally falls into place. I’ve not had a good Pho in awhile so I decide to check out the So Pho chain. And as expected it’s mediocre, it doesn’t have the Pho taste and is too salty. I say expected as I’ve come to terms that it’s going to be awhile till I find a good Pho.
Overall the noodles, beef balls, brisket and sliced beef were also OK. As for portion size it’s average but I must say there was a generous amount of slice beef. The Vietnamese coffee was good. I’m going to give the taste a two due to the saltiness of the soup. For service I’ll give a four as the staff were attentive and smiling.
If anyone has recommendations for Pho please let me know.

Personally, I had gradually enjoyed Vietnamese Cuisine after my trip to vietnam many years back and often my meals cant go without a big bowl of their Staple Pho and Summer Rolls. Thus, without much flipping of the menu, I already knew what will be my dishes.

Pho Dac Biet is classified under one of their chef's recommendation which inclide Slice Beef, Brisket and Beef Balls with Vietnamese Pho in the fragrant soup. Having tasted their competitors Pho, I would say theirs are one of the better ones I had where the soup was light and tasty, not really loaded with MSG.

The beef balls comes in a pair and perhaps a coincidence that I had them "glued" together. It tasted abit mushy for me and I prefer something that requires a little more force to bit on.

For those who want to skip the beef version may order the chicken Pho, the taste of broth has a slight difference. And one can actually request garnish to be separated from the noodle dish.

Capture the essence of Vietnamese dining with their delicious appetiser. We had the best platter with everything combined, prawn cake, summer roll and fried spring roll. Everything is fine but the standard of summer roll was abit lacking, the wrap was somehow too thick and the common peanut sauce that we are used to was not served.

Here we have something not noodles! The grilled lemon chicken set came with rice and will be a wiser choice if you want something filling. Set includes a sunny side up egg and delicious strips of chicken covered in good scent of lemongrass.

I spotted something new to me on their menu and decided to try out this ginger beverage that contain roasted peanuts. It tasted like plum drink to me added with some crunch.

Overall though I find they are doing not bad, I still prefer Pho Hoa's Pho. However in terms of distance to where I'm residing and convenience, they are still one of the better choice to enjoy a decent Vietnamese Cuisine.

Banh Xeo $9.80
vietnamese pancake with minced meat and seafood
I really love the Banh Xeo that I had eaten at the World Street Food Congress but So Pho's version paled in comparison. The edges were crisp and the pancake was filled with minced meat, shrimps and beansprouts. However, the batter was not as fragrant as the one I tried and it lacked that something which I can't put a word to. It was quite a disappointment.

Curry Chicken Set $9.90
The curry chicken set comes with a bowl of curry chicken, rice and a sunny-side up. The curry chicken was not spicy. I would honestly prefer my chinese curry to this. The chicken meat had a consistency of slight redness and one could also tell there was discolouration around the joints. It was quite unsightly and it did not make us want to have more of it.

The sunny side up was perfectly displayed. When I poked my fork into the yolk, it burst beautifully. The salad at the side was nothing worth mentioning.

Pho Ga $8.80
It comes with some raw beansprouts served separately which added a crunchy texture to the bowl of noodles. I got the chicken noodle soup instead of the beef because I do not like the heavy taste of cooked beef. The soup broth was sweet and delightfully tasty. It was clear and not oily too. There were plenty of chicken meat in it too. The amount of rice noodles in it was just right, not too much nor little. This is worth a try!

Rice paper rolls wrapped with prawns and lemongrass chicken $4.50
As much as I would love to, I could not appreciate the taste of it. It was really dry and bland and hard to take a second bite because the taste was not enticing at all.

I've come to a conclusion that my tastebuds are not a fan of vietnamese food, except the delicious but really oily Banh Xeo I had some time ago. If you do not like Vietnamese food, you can give this a miss.

I like the place and after exploring around a bit, i decided to settled my dinner at So Pho! Since it's my first visit, i tried the Vietnamese Pho which consisted of sliced beef, brisket & beef meatballs noodle soup. It's actually quite nice! Only the brisket was slightly tough and overall was a good one. Broth was sweet and beef meatballs were very tender too!

For $9+, i think it's reasonable for the quality and portion. Will be back again if im at JEM. Good service too =)

After craving for vietnamese pho for so long after my trip back from vietnam, I've been meaning to go to one place that could match up to the standards there. Sadly, I have yet to find one that's as good as the one there! The opening of SO PHO @ JEM was a delight to me as it is relatively near my house and most of the vietnamese food are pretty far away. Decided to try it when the queue wasn't as long during the lunch/dinner hours.

I think most of the staff there were very new and hence they seemed a little clueless about the menu. My server had to flip the pages when he was repeating the orders back to me. Forgivable as i believe it is a new establishment and they were mostly newly employed hence the unfamiliarity.

I ordered the Beef Brisket and Beef Balls Noodle Soup which cost $9.80. I think it was quite worth it as the amount of beef given was very generous. I wanted to ask them to cook the beansprouts for one first but I was afraid they won't know what to do and would tell me that the vietnamese style was to eat it kind of raw. haha! Beef Ball was springy and nice to chew and the beef were all pretty big portion. The noodles they gave was also very slow and was a nice complement to the beef. The soup itself was really good! But I felt that it was a little too sweet, maybe there were too much beef goodness inside. haha!

I think that this dish is not too bad but I wouldn't say that it reminds me of vietnam. Maybe with a better touch to the environment, the owner could boost the ambience of the place? There are also other similar dishes such as beef brisket itself/beef balls itself if i'm not wrong and it's a little cheaper than the combination of both? Perhaps those who are not that hungry could opt for those dishes instead!

With the close proximity to my house, I will definitely go back and try the other dishes!

I love Vietnamese cuisine so when i saw this newly opened restaurant at JEM, I simply had to try it! Iced Honey Lemon for $3.20. What you see is what you get-- this was really honey + lemon water. Nothing special and really quite pricey for something simple like this. I like the glass that the drink was served in though. Very vintage. I ordered the Beef Brisket and Beef Balls Noodle Soup ($9.80) and Grilled Beef with Mango Salad ($10.80). Wow, the side dish is more expensive than the main dish!

I ordered the Beef Brisket and Beef Balls Noodle Soup ($9.80) and Grilled Beef with Mango Salad ($10.80). Wow, the side dish is more expensive than the main dish! However, the restaurant was extremely generous with the beef slices and the mango was sweet. The mango gave the dish a nice tropical touch especially in summertime (which is all year round for Singapore). The noodle soup was delicious. Rice noodles were smooth and slippery but the soup was not as sweet as I had expected it to be. It did not pack much beefiness as expected.

It was a nice experience dining at So Pho. I would visit here again to try out other Vietnamese delights such as the renowned salad rolls and the lemongrass vermicelli noodle soup.

Sliced Beef, Brisket & Beef Balls Noodle Soup. $9.80++
The first time I ate Vietnamese Beef Noodles was 10 years ago, in San Jose, the owner himself is a Vietnamese who immigrate to San Jose and opened a shop there. Till today, I remembered the taste of it & I dare to say, this sliced beef noodle soup at So Pho has almost the exact same memorable taste!!

Noodle comes with fresh mint leaves, cilantro leaves, basil leaves, bean sprouts, a slice of lime and sliced chilli. Kudos to staffs who took the time to pluck both ends of the beansprouts - end results: clean-looking beansprouts!
The mint leaves & lime gives the dish a refreshing taste, the half-cooked beansprouts gives the dish a crunch & the sliced chilli gives the dish just a tinge of spiciness. It is just superbly delicious & wonderful. Needless to say, I finished every single morsel & drop of soup. I will definitely be back to eat more of it!! :bow
l:

Moreover, given that the price is about $10 per bowl, quality & quantity of this dish is definitely value for money!!
