sweet sauce's given separately so that we can add it to our own discretion. There's nothing special about this dish and tasted very average. Even though it is considered quite cheap, I won't be ordering this a second time.

Although the restaurant name is Soup, i had never tried the soup as I will definitely go for the chicken. It's reasonably priced at $15+ / portion, sufficient for 2 pax. We added2 more dishes, tofu and vegetable and it was certainly filling for 3 pax. Total bill was about $54+.Will return.

One thing I really like about Soup Restaurant is the feeling I get when I step into the restaurant. Somehow it feels very homely and the dishes also taste very homely. There are several chef recommendations if you do not know what to order. The signature chicken needs no introduction, it is simply tasty with their specialty ginger sauce. The cereal prawns took the longest to arrive, but its taste more than compensate for the wait. The cereals are very crispy and tasty. I found myself scooping scoops of the cereal into my bowl because it is really addictive. Not to forget the prawns are also very fresh and sweet tasting. The braised sea cucumber and mushrooms are also very well done, the gravy goes well with plain rice since the gravy used to braise the sea cucumber and mushrooms is very rich and thick.

Soup restaurant is of course, famous for their soup. They change their soup of the day daily, then for that particular day, the soup will come in small, medium and large size. For other soups which are not soup of the day, they will only be served in small sizes for one person's consumption. So that's a point to note when you are trying to order. On all the tables, you will definitely see their infamous ginger chicken dish. It's rather big, enough for about 4-5 people, with a big saucer of ginger in the middle. An absolute must try! Better than the soups they serve in soup restaurant in my opinion.

The chicken was tender and boneless. best of all, it went very well with cabbage. The cabbage was so fresh and sweet that I couldn't help wondering how they prepared the cabbage.

This is the restaurant's self-made tofu- Hometown Tofu. Crispy on the outside and tender inside. The sauce was appetising and went very well with rice. Too bad, it's such a small portion. Would have loved to order another one, if we hadn't ordered other dishes.

Poached Baby spinach-conpoy in century and salted egg stock. There are 3 types of eggs in this dish: poached eggs, century eggs and salted egg. I am usually quite sceptical when coming to this types of dishes because usually the favour of the dish would be overwelmed by the century egg. However, I was able to accept this dish served in this restaurant. They were quite generous with the salted egg portions and the dish was not overwelmed by the century egg. The dish was also not salty. My brother took many spoonfuls of the soup.

We also ordered a lotus soup, but it is nothing fanciful.

The price we paid is considerably lower than other restaurants and the service is excellent, crediting to the restaurant's management in having enough staff to manage the restaurant comfortably. My brother commented that he definitely will come back again.

The gravy they cooked it with was kind of sweetish, totally not salty, goes well with rice. We ordered a double boil dried scallop with black chicken soup($8.90), the soup was kind of sweetish because of the dried scallop. It was really tasty, makes you wanna drink mouth after mouth. it also have health benefits too such as stress relief, improve complexion and blood circulation. A very hearty meal it was.

Like what most of us would think me inclusive. I had the conception from the name of the restaurant that it only serves soup, or maybe mostly soup dishes. It was until I went up to have a look at the menu that I realized, it was just like any other Chinese restaurants – like Dian Xiao Er and PuTien – it’s a high class zhi-char, where you order dishes to go along with a bowl of rice, in general. The most recommend restaurant is the samsui chicken, which I think not nice, too soggy and it is cold.

I was in the mood for a simple dinner and since I've been here before, albeit a long time ago, decided to drop by again for a no-brainer meal. The 三水姜茸鸡, being a signature dish, was extremely popular as it was seen on almost every table. The poached chicken wasn't exactly mind-blowing on its own but coupled with the robust and savory ginger paste, it was absolutely divine. The fresh lettuce provided for wrapping added a nice crunch though we found the chicken went really well with plain rice too.

We ordered 阿婆蕃薯叶 for some dietary fibre. Even though the sweet potato leaves were just simply stir-fried, they were delectably soft and flavorful being doused in a sauce that was savory with a hint of sweetness.

Needless to say, the meal was pleasant and thoroughly satisfying with a prompt service to boot.

Interior design was pretty intricate – I do think that the designs of Chinese restaurants generally are, more often that not. Comfort level is definitely higher than that of Dian Xiao Er’s (they have bigger tables for the many dishes coming up), but lower than that of PuTien’s. After some tough decision-making, we narrowed it down to some of the dishes we thought would suit our appetite that evening.

Beggar Bowl Rice with Chicken ($5.50++) :: Reason why we ended up ordering this on top of our bowls of plain rice is mainly because we wanted to both look at what exactly a Beggar Bowl Rice is, and how it tastes like. Now, that’s why our Marketing Lecturer used to remind us the importance of capturing the interest and curiosity of customers, lol. Stirred and mixed with the small side dish of garlic, this bowl of rice is definitely worth more than just its name. If you like garlic, you’d like how it goes well with the chicken, the rice and its gravy.

Sambal Kang Kong (Small) ($7.80++) :: Even though we unanimously agreed that Dian Xiao Er’s rendition of this is tastier, I personally still think that this at least hits the average mark. It’s not too bad, although it might come across a little too salty.

Fried Venison with Ginger and Spring Onion ($13.80++) :: This is one that disappointed me a lot. I’ve always been a fan of venison (ie. deer meat), especially when it’s done with black pepper. This dish was way too salty for all of our likings. Furthermore, it was served last, which wasn’t very tactical, because we were almost done with our portion of rice that we ended up eating it without the company of plain rice to neutralize the saltiness. Could have been done better.

Hand Chopped Minced Pork with Salted Egg ($8.50++) :: This new series of hand chopped minced pork (only 30 servings are served per day) comes with either salted egg, salted fish or waterchestnut. We went ahead with the one with salted egg. Portion was just right for 4 persons, although we wouldn’t complain if we could have more. I don’t know, but to me, the sauce, the pork, the salted egg, it all blended well together, it was a good dish.

Fried Man Tou ($4.00++) :: I was slightly taken aback at the number of pieces it served at only $4 – 8 pieces, so it’s about 50cents per piece, I thought it was quite reasonable in such a place. If you eat it alone like the way it is, it’s quite bland. But what we did, we dipped it in the gravy of the Minced Pork dish – it was considerably compatible

Waisan & Ginseng Roots with Chicken Soup ($5.80++) :: Again, we ordered this so that we actually tasted Soup Restaurant‘s soup. This is one of their popular dishes. It is said to be for those who are fatigued and for stress-relieving. I love this soup and how it tastes – considering their kitchen to be MSG-free, this is impressive.

Subjectively, I feel that the food here at Soup Restaurant is comparable to that of Dian Xiao Er’s, but PuTien‘s is definitely a notch higher. Worth trying. Service I received here is surely the best though. Very courteous waitpersons around.

—> Note #1: Hand towel’s $0.40 per piece, and so will the starters be charged. If you don’t wish to pay, you can ask the waitpersons to remove them. Iced/Warm water’s free though.

—> Note #2: Payment is done at the counter and not table.

—> Note #3: I had my dinner on a weekend. Queue was rather long, so in case you are rushing but still want a good meal, you might have to think twice.

—> Note #4: They have specialty dishes in respective outlets. You can check out their website for more on the dishes they offer in the different outlets.

The samsui chicken was steamed to perfection as the meat was tender and not dry. To me, the skin of the chicken was the most delicious part as it is so smooth. The dish comes with lettuce and the ginger sauce. You must dip the chicken into the ginger sauce to bring out the full flavours of the dish. Aternatively, you can also wrap it in lettuce with or wothout the ginger sauce. The lettuce is real crunchy and fresh. Great combination.

This outlet is very crowded during weekends. Be prepared to queue.

Do try the "Ah Gong" sweet potato vegetables, which is mildly spicy. If you do not take spiciness, opt for the "Ah Po" version in the menu, which is non-spicy.

The restaurant gets crowded during weekends. The atmosphere there is ok.
