For the full review with pictures, please head to http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com/2010/10/soup-restaurant-seah-street.htmlThis particular outlet has a very "old Chinese teahouse" feel, with its conservation shophouse surroundings, traditional Oriental design, timber lattice details and ornate wooden Chinese furniture. Very old-school, very quaint. It's like stepping into a Chinese period drama. We got:1) Samsui Ginger Chicken ($14.80) - boneless tender chicken lightly dressed with a soy and sesame oil mix. Throw in a kickass minced ginger and sesame oil dip, with refreshingly crisp lettuce and you've got a winning combination of aromatic and tasty flavours and textures2) Stewed Chicken Breast with Roast Pork and Tofu ($10.80) - I liked everything on the claypot, save for the chicken breast bits, they were tiny and tough, like they'd been re-fried3) Ah Kon Fan Shu Leaves ($8) sweet potato leaves fried with sambal chilli. The sambal, despite its fiery hue, was mildly spicy4) Steamed Hand-Chopped Minced Pork with Salted Egg ($8.50), with water chestnut adding texture to the coarsely chopped mince. This was light and delicate continue reading

Samsui chicken is one of our flavourite dish during lunch and dinner. Have once again visited the restaurant with my parents and nevertheless it never fail to impress us. The chicken meat is as usual very tender and juicy, with the very smooth glossy skin on every piece of chicken meat. The minced ginger with sesame oil is very fragrant and you can also eat it on it's own without any rice and dishes. The portion is always so generous here which we are always glad that we need not pay alot and is still able to enjoy the nice cosy environment of a Chinese restaurant. continue reading

Since i have not tried before their samsui ginger chicken which is their signature dish of their restaurant, so i went to get the groupon deal of the chicken at $7.90. I have also ordered one ah por ginger fried rice which was not bad as their portion was rather huge given that the price was at $9.90. The waitress also recommend us to try the ah kon fan shu leaves which was priced at $8.50. I like their ginger chicken the most as it is very smooth and when you eat it with the ginger it is just perfect. continue reading

Another Groupon voucher purchased for half a Ginger Chicken at $7.90. Got a few friends for dinner and was surprised that the restaurant was nearly full within that half an hour from their opening time. This is one of my favourite restaurant that the food reminded me of my late mother who knew how to dish up some of these recipes. Anyway, we ordered half a Ginger Chicken, Claypot Toufu, Sweet Corn with Pork Ribs Soup, Steamed minced meat with salted egg and a chilli tapioca vegetables. My first time trying the toufu and the minced meat and really enjoyed them. The toufu was in a sweet sauce yet not scaringly sweet and very well fried and simmered in the sauce. The steamed minced meat was with bits of water chestnut and the texture was moist, but just thought it would be better if they had cut up the salted egg into chunks and mixed with the meat, rather than just placed them at the top of the meat. Really enjoyed the meal. Sorry was too hungry that the ginger chicken was eaten up then realized I forgot to take a picture. continue reading
