I recently went Spizza and quite surprised to find out it actually had extensive choices on its Menu, Italian contemporary restaurant rather a fast food chain. Offered in two sizes for their Pizza section, we may pick medium or large. In order to share among us, we opted for large Pizza at $23.00. Ingredients included Tomatoes, Mozzarella Cheese, Cooked Ham and Mushrooms, the layer was a crusty crisp. Served while it still hot, portion was really huge. We had a filling meal for less than $10 per pax, reasonable and wallet-friendly lunch.

I won a Spizza voucher comprising a flat pizza and a cup of coffee. When I reached the shop at Club Street, the shop did not impress me. It was a small shop. When I entered, my impression changed. The shop was well lighted and comfortable setting were arranged. There were painting and drawing done on the bare walls. The restaurant was clean and bright.

I was worried that the Manager would neglect me as I was consuming a free meal using Spizza voucher. My impression was wrong. She was helpful to guide me what to choose for the pizza as I told her that I wanted to have the pizza take away.

I ordered Sofia comprising tomato, mozzarella, shrimps, mussels, scallops, calamari fresh Basil. The pizza costs $20. While waiting for the pizza to be baked, I had my cup of coffee served as it was inclusive in the food voucher.

When the coffee was served, the display was attractive. There were 2 cubes of raw sugar and full cup of creamer placed beside the half filled coffee cup. The coffee was hot. As the milk was added, the coffee had become lukewarm. The coffee was not great as it did not have the strong coffee aroma that stirred up coffee drinker like myself.

I did not wait very long to have my pizza ready. By the time when I had finished my cup of coffee, the pizza was placed in a stable box and at the side placed the cheese and chilli powder. The pizza was tempting as I saw mussels and shrimps waiting to be served.

I took the pizza for my dinner at home. The tomato melted into the pizza. The pizza crust was hard as it was flat bread. The ingredients were visibly placed on top of the pizza. The bread was able 0.5 cm thick. It was flat, dry yet with the fresh ingredient added to the bread, the flat bread was not dry.

We had the Katerina ($23 for large) which was tomato, mozzarella, beef carpaccio, rucola salad and shaved parmesan cheese.

The Ursula ($23) that had tomato, mascarpone cheese, spinach, smoked salmon and capers. thumbs up for both pizzas!
Especially the smoked salmon one. We couldnt get enough of it! Each one of us only had a small slice.

We ordered some sides to share as well! The calamari ($12) was crispy and came in quite a generous portion. liked the tomato ‘pizzalolo’ dip that came with it.

Our portobello al forno ($12) looked so burnt!!! haha but it was quite yummy
tender and oozing with juices, its flavour exploded in our mouths when we popped it in. Lovely!

I haven’t had Spizza’s Pizza until early this year. That was my first go at it, and it was love at first taste. By far, it’s my Favorite Pizza in Singapore. I have been frequenting the Club Street outlet (since it’s so near to my workplace). And lately, they have an ongoing promotion of $10 for a treat of 10-inch pizza (8 slices). It is going on indefinitely. Only valid from Mondays – Thursdays, 12pm – 2.30pm though. If you are working in that area, please do drop by. You can have a filling meal for less than $10, at a restaurant, air-conditioned, and satisfied.

In general, I guess the reasons why I love Spizza’s Pizzas are (1) its crust being just the right thickness – one that is not too crispy and thin that you can’t taste a thing, and not too thick to battle its taste with the toppings, and that (2) the toppings are very much flavorful, not too overpowering, but adequate for a party in your mouth. Further, they have a nicely decorated and furnished restaurant to dine-in. Psh, that spells W-I-N in capital letters.

Quinta: Tomato, Mozzarella, Egg with Black Truffle Paste. While it looks and sounds promising, it fell short a little. I thought the combination of toppings is quite a given awesomeness, but the Black Truffle kind of spoiled it a bit. Maybe because it was black truffle, and not a top quality one, it was towards the smelly side more than the indulgently pungent smell, if you know what I mean, you know, with truffles.

Ursula: This beauty, topped with Spinach, Smoked Salmon and Capers, one the other hand, is the hot favorite. This is a close-my-eyes-and-order piece of pizza. The chunks of mascarpone complements the smoked salmon so well it is like they were made for each other.

Olivia: For a simple pizza with Salami and Fresh Chili, it was quite a surprise I love it quite a lot. Simply because it’s generally different in taste in comparison with most of its other counterparts. It’s salty, yet quite the spicy. Two of my favorite tastes. It not being complicated also means that you can distinctively taste the toppings.

Franca: With Porcini Mushrooms and Pancetta Bacon, it can’t go too wrong, can it? It is probably the best bet for a conservative eater.

Calamari ($13++): Though it can’t beat Marche’s Calamari, it is not too bad either. My colleagues absolutely loved it (almost to the level of the Ursula Pizza), but I thought it was only alright. My take is that it can be too reliant on the sauce provided.

Without the promotion, a Medium-sized Pizza (featured in the blog) costs from $16 – $20 and a Large-sized one costs from $20 – $24. They also offer Dessert Pizzas, though limited (Nutella based, and Peach Jam based). I’ve personally had my hands on the former, and I loved it. Though not comparable to the one at Max Brenner Chocolate Bar, it is still enough for the chocolate cravings.

Well of course, they do delivery as well.
Spizza is not halal.

This first-ever outlet of the popular pizzaria is 2 doors down from the famed Senso, and it's interesting to note that both are owned by the same people. Both are equally popular but cater to very different occasions and budgets. Senso's more refined while Spizza is more rustic. While I have to confess that my favourite pizzaria is still Ricciotti, Spizza does stand out in a couple of ways, namely their Quinta and their portobello starter dishes (you can't get these at Ricciotti). Also, Spizza's casual, convivial vibe is extremely charming. A great way to unwind after a long hard week of work.

We started off on a high note with the Portobello Al Forno ($12.50), a duo of oven-baked portobello mushrooms topped with chunky bolognese sauce and melted taleggio cheese. This was dripping with earthy juices and totally scrumptious.

Garlic Bread ($5): a little ho-hum, there just wasn't enough garlic butter spread and the baguette wasn't toasty enough

Quinta ($18 for medium): with black truffle paste, egg, tomato, and mozzarella is a MUST-TRY here. The black truffle paste is AWESOME. This uniquely flavoured pizza really does set Spizza apart from my favourite Ricciotti. Somehow, the distinctively strong truffle essence managed to complement, rather than overwhelm, the flavours of the tangy tomato and cheese base and delicate mildness of the sunny side up egg

We had a craving for pizzas so decided to order takeaway. The pizzas came piping hot and evidently freshly baked. It was rather big and enough to serve 3 hungry adults. The crust itself was not the thick type, and therefore did not taste too much of flour. Each bite brought crunchiness to it. The ham itself was nicely smoked. I also liked the olives and the mushrooms scattered around. Will try other flavours in the future.

The new additions to our pizza selection were Tara, as most people in our office love the combination of bacon and eggs, Franca, which resembles Tara in almost every ingredient expect that it comes sans the egg, and Laura, a four-cheese delight.

All in all, we were more than satisfied with the pizzas and will definitely order from Spizza again for our next function.

I went to Spizza again the other day, and this time round I ordered the HELENA. The combination of colour is so pretty and looks appetizing hey! As per usual, the pizza here has a very thin and crispy crust. Spread with tomato sauce base, Helena consists of grilled chicken in pesto sauce and bell peppers. Topped with generous amount of Mozzarella cheese, the whole flavour of Helena is very well blend together.

Spizza names their pizzas after women - we called for Juliana and Isabella to the office (read: home delivery). Juliana's actually just a Hawaiian pizza, but because it's baked in a stone oven, the taste is more even. Isabella has rucola salad atop Parma ham, mozerella and shaved Parmesan and makes for a more unique combination. My favourite pizza is the Ursula, with smoked salmon pieces, cream cheese and rocket.

I love the design of this tiny little pizza place. When you walk in, you will see the pizza preparation area. It's a open-kitchen concept. During our second visit to Spizza, we ordered Isabella and the star pizza for first half of Dec (1st - 15th Dec), which is called Pizza Spinachi. Isabella is tomato-based pizza with mozzarella cheese, topped with parma ham and a handful of rucola salad. If you are a rocket fans, you will love this pizza as much as I do! If you think rocket is bitter, then stay out of this pizza!
