Spizzico is a cosy Italian restaurant located at UE Square which has been established since 2000. I was quite surprised by its extensive selection of food and it even has an alfresco dining area for those who prefer outdoors. The menu stays close to a traditional Italian style, from soup, salad, cold appetizer, hot appetizers... to risottos, pastas, seafood, carne (meat) and of course, desserts. We could not wait and jumped right into the hot appetizer section. Nothing could go severely wrong

We could not wait and jumped right into the hot appetizer section. Nothing could go severely wrong when fresh squid is used to make this Golden Calamari Rings - $18 instead of rubbery frozen kinds. These lightly-battered sotongs are better off on its own instead of being dipped into the Diabolo sauce, which may overpower the original taste the meat.

Not sure if the Saffron Flat Pasta - $26 was undercooked as it was rather tough and not anywhere near "char kway teow" nor "hor fun" like the owner humorously quipped. However, the saffron sauce with sundried tomato was not too cheesy along with some fresh, bouncy scallops & prawns.

For my main course of seafood, I tend to avoid Cod Fish - $38 but this was not overwhelming rich with nicely browned edges. The Cream Wasabi Sauce was slightly too sweet and would prefer it to be sharper.

From the Meat, the highly anticipated Beef Tenderloin - $42 was too thick and thus there was not much taste from the meat or the little sauce. At $42, the quality was not convincing and thus I would still recommend their thin crust pizzas.

We were surprised when the Smoked Salmon Pizza - $20 looked like it had just traveled out from the forest with the lush canopy of wild rocket. It was not spicy as I expected, but the bright flavors of capers and onions complemented the smoked salmon very well.

Not everyone might be fond of the wobbly Pannacotta - $12 but I do. It was not sweet at all and the dark golden brown caramel sauce was bitter, just the way it should be.

On the hindsight, the Cassata - $12, a traditional Italian dessert of semifreddo, dried fruits and chocolate sponge was nothing very special. Think ice cream parfait with harder texture.

After coming across many mediocre tiramisu at restaurants, Spizzico's version of Tiramisu - $12 was a pleasant surprise with moist sponges and traceable amounts of coffee liquor. A simple yet delightful end-of-meal desserts to have.

Overall, the food here is relatively sound and I would stick to the pizza, pastas and desserts instead of the seafood/meat course. But what is heartening to know is that the ingredients used at Spizzico are fresh and the sauces are made from scratch. While this place gives me a prim and proper feel with neatly ironed table sheets and heavy utensils, I can imagine it to be a suitable location for families and couples to enjoy quality fare away from the crowds.

Spizzico makes a great place for dining as it makes one feel cosy and comfortable because of the quiet ambience. I ordered the Linguine al Frutti di Mare pasta which consists of spaghetti cooked with prawn, clam, scallop, squid, crayfish and mussel, garlic in tomato sauce. It costs $24 which I feel is worth the money as I enjoyed the meal. The pasta is really delicious.

Tried their mixed bruschetta, which turned out to be slices of cold cuts on barely toasted slices of baguette. The only one that was good was the tomato
Also tried their gnocchi, which was described as being cooked in a pink sauce.
For my understanding of a pink sauce is that it’s a combination of tomato & cream sauce, but this was just a plain tomato sauce & was really heavy
I tried a few mouthfuls , they immediately sank like leaden weights in my stomach
Prices are pretty decent but food just normal
Overall i rate 6/10

Being a fan of Italian food, I always find myself checking out places with good reviews. So we find ourselves with family in tow ordering the following: 1) Linguine Seafood Spicy - the original version is not spicy but I love my pasta with kick. So I requested for a spicy version and the chef really gave KICK ah. I suppose it's really the chilli Padi he used as the linguine was flaming with fire and flavour. It's nice, don't get me wrong. The ingredients were also fresh and generous in amount. 2

2) Penne Chicken mushroom - Ordered this for my children and they liked it enough. I tried some. Creamy and robust in flavour too. Nice.

3) Pizza Diavola - can tell it's made from scratch and cooked in fire flamed oven. Very yummy. First dish to vanish!

4) Pizza Quattro - 4 cheese is really very cheesy. If you love cheese, this is for you!

5) Risotto Saffron Scallops - ordered this for our homekeeper as it was at least rice but she found it too cheesy. I happily ate some of it too. Creamy and the saffron taste was very well infused in this dish. The scallops were also huge and fresh. Very nice, a pity my homekeeper didn't like it.

Not exactly a place I'll travel all the way to but if in the area, I'll definitely return.

Spizzico serves italian food. As usual, traditional italian food serves bread before main dish. The bread was alright. I had Carbonara as my main dish. The portion was really huge. I don't feel sick of eating it at all. The cream base was just nice, not that thick, pasta was well cooked too. Service was impeccable. All in all, it was a fine dining experience.

Spizzico Ristorante Italiano is a small and quaint restaurant in UE shopping mall. UE shopping mall seemed to be crowded especially during weekends as parents would bring their children for pastry and baking class at Bakerzin and hang around Delifrance.

The interior of the restaurant is quite cosy, probably sit around 7 tables at most. However, alfresco sitting available.

I was attracted by the Executive lunch and set lunch that are being offered and decided to have my lunch here. It has been quite some time since I had pasta!

They offered two different set lunch. The 3 course Executive set lunch price at $24.90++ and Set lunch priced at $12.90++. I must admit the price was quite reasonable for 3 course lunch . If you would to order the Exeuctive set lunch for 2 pax, it would be slightly cheaper – $34.90++.Looking at the choices offered for the 2 set lunches , I thought I should go ala-carte, to try the chef’s specialities pasta.

Insalata Tomo e Caurolflori ($16++)

I was being warned by the waitress that the starters and salads served are meant for sharing. I went against their advice and ordered the Tuna salad with rocket leaves.
I was taken aback by the huge portion of Tuna salad that was served to me. Bascially, the rocket leaves were topped with geneorus Tuna Mayo ( canned tuna mayo, probably from Ayam Brand). I thought the Tuna were fresh tuna slices or seared tuna slices served with the rocket leaves. There were really generous with the tuna mayo which I thought the serving was amount 2 cans of Tuna! The salads also comes with lots of cherry tomatoes and cauliflowers and I enjoyed eating the cherry tomatoes with the tuna mayo.

Did I managed to finish the salad? Of course not! I tried my very best and left a portion of tuna mayo on the plate. Hey, I still have a pasta dish coming up!

( Oven baked Paparadelle with crayfish & tomato wrapped in aluminium foil) $28++

They offered Tagliolini pasta with the crayfish but they kindly allowed me to change the pasta to Home-made Paparadelle . Only 3 types of pastas are home-made – Paparadelle, Fettuccine and Tagliatelle. Of course, I would like to try their home-made pasta instead of the commercial pasta.

The pasta took around 15-20mins to arrive as the pasta is slowly baked in the oven, to allow the natural flavour of the crayfish to be retained. Do wait patiently, it is worth it!

I slowly tear open the aluminium foil and the aroma of the pasta smells so fragrant! Take a sniff before enjoying the pasta.
2 CRAYFISH was being served with a small serving of Paparadelle pasta, with black olives and tomatoes cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. The juice from the crayfish leaks out to the tomato sauce, resulting in a savoury and richness of seafood flavour. Crayfish was fresh and meaty and the serving paparadelle pasta was just alright. The texture of the pasta was a little rough, something like Fettucine but broader. I would prefer it to be slighly smoother but I guess this is what they call al-dente.

Anyway, the pasta was delicious!
