 The Swiss Farmer Platter is good for sharing for about 2 - 4 pax and consists of the Bavarian / Germans Staples like whole crispy pork knuckled, 2 selected German sausages, Achar, mashed potatoes, harsh browns and darkbeer sauce for pairing. From the look at it, the Asian Cuisine had somehow influenced the "supposed-to-be" German platter as the sauerkraut that I'm looking forward to has been exchanged for our Asian Achar. Portion are large and definitely economical as compared to the usual ones.

 The scene-stealer was perhaps none other than that salivating big pork knuckle that were cut into pieces. Meat was moist and fare better than the chain German Bistro that I had visited. Meat was marvelously tender and best to go with the given sauce.

 Though those shredded potatoes that make up the Rosti may not be as fine as what we had from Marche, it was more fragrant and not very oily. Together with the platter, we topped up this at $5.50 only.

 Having good memories from Hofbräuhaus München in Germany, I had the Hofbräu original. This is brewed by the brewery in Germany and the acquired taste was refreshingly light to go with some good german food! While for my guy friend, he prefers something stronger in flavour and went for the darker beer.

 Stew Küche may not replace the restaurant environment and have limited seating but you can still call in for reservation. Overall, with menu being extensive, I find that its a good alternative if you are looking for more German Food options in Singapore.

Located within the modern hawker enclave of Salute Coffee Shop / Salut Kopitiam, Stew Kuche is the anchor tenet of the place, occupying the position normally reserved for a Chinese Zi Char stall in a normal coffee shop. Stew Kuche, whose name means Stew Kitchen in German, instead offers a range of European cuisine, in particular, German / Bavarian cuisine, featuring large portions at mid-range cafe prices.

Ambience at Stew Kuche is shared with every other stall in Salute Coffee Shop / Salut Kopitiam. Functional, decent furniture, bright lighting, and the garish, iconic, blue checkered tablecloth. Service provided by Stew Kuche is largely self-service, where ordering and payment is done over the counter, although staff will serve orders to your table. I also like that staff are knowledgeable and able to make recommendations, though they can be brusque due to the long queues that often form here.

Food at Stew Kuche is fusion European. There is an emphasis on German / Bavarian food, with some Swiss dishes thrown in, and several dishes incorporate and Asian / Singaporean element in the ingredients. Generally, I find taste of most dishes to be excellent, very hearty, with bold flavours. Portions are huge, and sharing is highly recommended. Prices at Stew Kuche are rather expensive, about an upper mid-range cafe / low-end restaurant price, so budget about SGD $22 - $40 per person for a meal here.

The classic German Pork Knuckle (SGD $28.90 Whole / $17.70 Half) is a large, generous portion of carefully marinated and oven baked pork knuckle. Served with thick and semi-smooth mashed potatoes in a savoury brown gravy, and a Singaporean twist, Peranakan spicy pickled salad / achar. The pork knuckle has a hearty amount of meat, some of which tears off easily, but overall isn't too tender, though the taste is solid. The pork crackling skin really does crunch with a satisfiying sound, and the gravy is deep and savoury, but borders on salty. Still, this is an above average dish worth ordering.

we even had extras to take home! I think there might have been a kitchen cock up because we waited over an hour for our pork knuckles and we watched patrons that came later than us get their pork knuckles before us... It was quite aggravating and by the time the pork knuckles came.. I had already digested my stomach walls!!! Oh well!

Whole Knuckle- $25
Half Knuckle- $15

This is really good and delicious! The skin is sooooo crispy and savory that you just cannot have enough of it. I think if you have a huge appetite, half a knuckle is probably just right for you. Or else, you can probably share it with someone! The meat is really tender as well and it goes so well with the skin! It comes with achar and mashed potatoes as well. Pork knuckle is a must-try here!

 What’s German food without the booze? With more than 30 imported crafted beers to choose from (and more to come), including favourites like Hoegaarden, there is one to suit your taste for sure. I was really happy that there was an assortment of fruity beers like strawberry and apple toffee!

 Swiss Farmer Dinner Combo [Whole pork knuckle, German sausages, sauteed vegetables, achar, potatoes and brown sauce] ($35) – A signature dish of Chef Mani, he has recreated a classic German pork knuckle dish by incorporating some local flavours such as adding achar (marinated vegetables) on the side. The pork knuckle was delicious and not greasy at all – my friend even commented how the skin was crispier than the ones we had at Brotzeit! The brown sauce also ensured that the meat won’t dry out after extended period. I loved the sausages as well, which had some herb-y taste to them. This combo was huge for 4 people so if you’re looking at trying other dishes, I would say take just their Whole Knuckle at $25 or for small eaters, Half Knuckle at only $15. The different portion choices definitely made the meal more flexible, especially in small groups.

 Magner’s Pear Cider ($9) – Recommended by Chef Mani to go with the pork knuckle. Even though the pear taste was not very distinct, it was extremely light and refreshing – perfect for a heavy dish.
Erdinger ($8) – My usual order when it comes to beer!

Stew Küche is a great place to hang out with friends over some awesome pork knuckles and booze, without burning a hole in the wallet (isn’t that the most important?). Surprisingly, it was very cooling at night even without air-conditioning and the area was rather quiet, with plenty of parking space behind the building. I also heard that they will be extending their opening hours during the football season! More reasons to head over to Stew Küche!
