The only qualm was probably the cramped tables - too close to each other. Service was attentive enough, but the level of understanding was a little ruffled. The array of cakes looked so tempting - if we weren't having the set dinners, I would have ordered the colorful Rainbow Cheesecake for sure.
Inside Out Scotch Eggs

The first item aka appetizer was the Inside Out Scotch Egg - cheddar-filled sausage wrapped in egg, with salted egg yolk hollandaise, petit salad and tomato relish. It was the most innovative and tasty dish of the night - loved the crusty battering of the egg and the tasty fillings within the halved hard-boiled egg. The cheddar stood out in particular, heightening the overall flavour of this dish.
Buttermilk Waffle with Fried CHicken

Next came the main course - consisting of their signature Buttermilk Waffle with yogurt-marinated kashmiri fried chicken, served with southern gravy, red cabbage slaw and corn salad. The fluffy waffles were crispy and light in texture, melting in the mouth with a faintly-detectable buttermilk fragrance. The fried chicken was fairly normal; it went well eaten together with the waffle, cabbage slaw and corn salad in one bite.

Strangers' Reunion does serve a variety of food, and also on the growing trend healthy eating, yogurt is also available in the menu, if you looking for something light, unfailing your diet routine.
Cafe Latte. As mentioned earlier, aromatic smell of the coffees in Strangers' Reunion is sure to perk you up! While I am not much of a coffee drinker, my companion does agree with the mass that the coffee here is definitely to-order-for.
House Smoked Salmon Benedict with hazelnut bearnaise, fera, walnut crumble, petit salad & sultana bread. Generous serving of salmon slices and a pair of oozy egg benedicts. Both of these items have made up a wonderful brunch already.
Truffle Fries. I admit that the price is steeper than what you would normally expect in other cafes, and I do feel the ache too. Despite the price, it has a strong truffle smell, and the serving is deem suitable to be shared among 2 pax as a side dish.
Another recommendation in Strangers' Reunion is their buttermilk waffles! Buttermilk Waffles with Homemade Mixed Berry Compote, with choice of either Greek yogurt or vanilla ice cream. I had of course, opt for the Greek yogurt, as ice cream is too commonly used in other cafes.
Strangers' Reunion waffles are crispy on the outer, but fluffy in the inside. This enable the yogurt and berry sauce to get soak into the waffle when dabbed, allowing the sweetness not just on the outside.
We went around 3 plus in the late afternoon, but the cafe is still pretty packed. Although each of the crew are busy, they do also diligently attend to your requests when requested. Service is definitely up to mark.

The waffle is slightly crispy and soft inside.   Never stale in my 2 attempts to there.  It's match with vanilla ice cream is always perfect.

The coffee is good but still like many other artisan hand craft coffee places they are not as delicate as Japanese coffee where you could always find them as soft as silk.  If it's to improve is to enhance the after taste of the coffee and prolong the time the aroma staying in your mouth. If the temperature of the glass could be kept warm always it'd be good, although I fully understand that the weakness of serving with glasses like that if its getting too warm it's difficult to hold - that's why many other coffee shops in the world use ceramic cups!!!

Other breakfast items are refreshing and healthy but there are improvement in having more complicated taste, like the salad with avocado mash on toast it'd put some balsamic vinegar on  the salad to make the taste more interesting.

Again it's always a good coffee place to go in this area!

Instead, it was crowded, noisy and squeezy especially if you are seated at the row of table with sofa and cushion (right part of above photo). Those who were seated there had to move their tables to allow their friends to access the sofa area and also for their friends to leave.

Left to right: Cafe Mocha $5.50 and Cappuccino $4.90

My partner ordered a Cafe Mocha $5.50 while I ordered a Cappuccino $4.90. Both beverages were disappointing. The Cappuccino (which i ordered) was too milky and the distinct richness and taste of espresso was missing.

Truffle Fries $12.90

The Truffles Fries $12.90 came with grated truffle, truffled aioli and parmesan. It was a pity consistency was lacking (some fries were hard while some were soggy), if not this would have been a great side dish.

Buttermilk Waffles with Artisan Greek Yogurt & Fresh Fruits $12.90

Since we had heard so much about the buttermilk waffles, we had to order one to try for ourselves. We ordered the Buttermilk Waffles with Artisan Greek Yogurt & Fresh Fruits $12.90. So beautiful and enticing in appearance! However, the thick, fluffy waffle did not match up to our expectations as it lacked flavour and fragrance.

Needless to say, I was not impressed with the food and drinks we had at Strangers' Reunion. I do not understand the hype. As we left, we noticed that there was a long queue outside, waiting for their turn fora table in the cafe (on a weekday)!! There must be something worth going back for, I wonder what was it. Well, everyone has differing taste; as the saying goes one man's poison is another man's meat.

Florentine $18

We found this overpriced and the portion did not justify for the price. The egg yolk was not at all runny as it was overcooked and the hollandaise sauce was not sufficient so it was quite dry as the yolk did not provide the needed moisture. The bread was also soggy but we love the overall taste of this dish. Everything went well together.

Mixed Fruits Waffles

They could have been more generous with the strawberries. The maple syrup was really sweet but it complemented the waffles well. So far, my favourite rendition has got to be the waffles with greek yogurt.

Prices aren't cheap but it is still worth a try if you love waffles. Be prepared to queue even at off-peak hours because they are almost always full.

Waffles with mixed berries compote

The berries compote was too sour and the acidic taste of it entirely masked the fragrance of the buttermilk waffles. Unfortunately, this wasn't to our liking.

Buttermilk Waffles with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and fresh fruits ($12.90)

The verdict for the much raved-about waffles?

It really is great. It’s a slightly different style from Creamier’s (by
far my best), but I liked the fragrant aftertaste and crispy texture. It yields
with a nice crackle to the knife while the inside isn't too soft yet fluffy enough. Get it.

Truffle Fries ($12.90)

We wanted the truffled sweet potato fries, but it was unavailable. So, we
settled for the truffle fries. Sadly, the fries itself didn’t really live up to
expectations because the truffle fragrance was nary there. The shoestring
weren’t exactly all crisp with a nice fluffiness inside, but the garlic mayo
dip that came with it saved it. Now that was good.

Ham and Homemade Goat's Cheese Omelette ($15)

The ham and goat cheese omelette with tomato relish was decent, that is, if you are
ok with the slight pungency of goat’s cheese. The portion was pretty
substantial as well, but the bread that came with it was crusty hard. The taste
of the entire combination reminded me of indian food somehow. Not a
miss, but neither a hit too.

What struck me most here, (and why I’d return) would be the attentive service and friendly
staff. Our bottle of water was promptly replaced once finished (not once but
thrice and also even when we shifted tables as well). Plus, they did not chase
us once we finished our food and also as I am typing here now, when the café is
filling up fast. This service standard was extended to our customers too. So go
ahead, visit and remember to get the waffles.

buttermilk waffle with homemade berry compote and greek yoghurt @ $14.90.
The buttermilk waffle was extremely delicious! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. However, i do not really like the berries and yoghurt though. It made the centre of the waffle too soggy. This was because i prefer crispy waffles
Perhaps i will order the waffle with fresh fruit and ice cream next time.

Will definitely come back to try their buttermilk waffles! So far the best in town

The whole place was really cramped. Seats were uncomfortable, food was on-average, prices were a real rip-off, quantity was small.

The only commendable dish I would recommend would probably be the truffle fries. It's really good with the crisp of the fries and the truffle taste engulfing your sense of smell even before your sense of taste kicks in! The quantity is also quite huge.

Other than that, I would not be returning to this place again.

And if you're wondering if it's tough to get to stranger's reunion... it's actually alright if you've researched your way there, a bus stop away from outram mrt but remember to head out to correct exit. Both of us actually sort of walked the wrong direction and ended up perspiring crazily when we reached there due to the unbearable weather.

This one and a half year old small hangout is run by the 2 times winner (2011,2012) of the Singapore National Barista Championship, Ryan Kieran Tan and his brother Dylan. Ryan is also the winner of Asean Barista Championship 2013 which is recently hosted in Bangkok. The place is quite crowded and known for its coffee, as well as, its waffles. It is located within walking distance from the Outram Park MRT Station. The place is decorated in a simple way with cement floor, rugs, subdued lighting and unique furniture, which gives a relaxed atmosphere.

Since we are lucky to have Ryan making the drinks tonight, most of us order Magic as our choice of drink. It is a moment of excitement as we watch Ryan creating latte art through pouring milk on cups filled with a small amount of Espresso.

Magic ($5.50)
Double shots of Ristretto and Milk
This place is the first to introduce this which is said to be a magical ratio of coffee to milk.
The coffee is made with freshly grounded beans and gives a fragrant aroma. Although a lot of milk has been poured, the coffee gives a mellow taste. Overall it is strong coffee balanced with nicely frothed milk.

Those who don't take coffee order Hot Chocolate ($5.50) which also comes with latte art on top.

Ryan is quite friendly and suggests us to take the drinks while still hot. Please take note that if the coffee has been sitting for sometimes, you could see the colour changes to a darker tone.

Accompanying the drinks, are some light bites such as

Similar to the lotus root chips, it tastes like potato chips too. But lacking of the truffle oil taste too.

Today Specials' Buttermik Waffles with Passionfruit White Chocolate, Coconut Zest and Vanilla Ice Cream ($14.90)
While the waffle is quite crispy on the outside, inside it is soft and fluffy. Although passionfruit sounds sour but the sauce tastes quite nice with just a hint.

Overall it is a great place to hang out with friends with its coffee and waffles, especially for coffee lovers to satisfy their caffeine addiction.

One of the restaurants I really wanted to try is Strangers' Reunion. I heard a lot about the restaurant through user reviews on Open Rice and so was excited when my friends and I decided to have dinner there last friday.

The restaurant is located a short distance away from Outram Park MRT (walk out from the Purple Line, towards the Cantonment Road exit). Walking time around 10-15 minutes.

Anyway we reached around 8pm and the restaurant was packed and with a few patrons waiting outside.

Anyway the above picture shows the entrance of the museum which is just next door to the restaurant. It is easy to pass by this entrance and head to the museum entrance cause at first glance, one cannot really notice the door.

Anyway we waited for around 20-30 minutes before we were ushered in. We were given two options, either share a table with a group of existing patrons or sit facing the wall. We chose the former thinking its a more comfortable and conducive seating arrangement. But it turned out to be quite awkward and laughter inducing sitting with a group of strangers. Strangers' Reunion indeed.

The Orange Zesty Chicken Schnitzel ($19.90) boasts a huge serving. As there were 3 of us, it was just nice that we got one chicken cutlet each. My impression of a decent schnitzel is a barely-there batter crust with tender meat. However the one here had a thick crust and while it does contain hints of tangerine, I felt that the skin is too thick with too little meat. However the lotus chips were good with a texture similar to that of potato chips.

We also ordered a truffle fries ($12.90) which tasted relatively normal. I could hardly taste the truffle in the fries.

The main selling point of the restaurant is the waffles. We had the Buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit ($12.90). Although we had to wait 30 minutes for this, it was worth the wait! The waffle was soft and fluffy and warm. Coupled with the cold ice cream, it was like a match made in heaven. It was so good that we ended up ordering another waffle to satiate our craving.

What better way to end off the meal with a cup of coffee. Called Magic ($5.50), it is said to contain a magical proportion of milk to coffee. I like the coffee art but the coffee was a little bitter in my opinion.

The tables in the restaurant each boosted a small plant which added to the overall ambience of the restaurant. There were also paintings hung around the walls and coupled with the dim lightings, it gives off a very cosy atmosphere. The service staff were also very friendly and tried to make small talk with the patrons. Though there was no fixed uniform and so when we wanted to call out to them, we weren't sure if they are the paying customer or waiters/waitresses.

Overall I liked the service standards at the restaurant and the waffles. Definitely a hot spot for people who are looking for good waffles and a nice atmosphere.
