Strangers' Reunion is a cafe located at a 10mins walkable distance from Outram Park MRT Station. The interior has this kind of rustic warm uniqueness to it which makes you feel very relaxed, calm and at ease, probably the most perfect ambience for a date or simply catching up with old friends.

We were led to the end of the restaurant where we were given the option to choose between sitting side by side on a corner table facing the wall or sharing a table with strangers. We've chosen to sit with this group of guys and hmm, let's say it was a pretty interesting experience! (That's why it's called Strangers' Reunion.)

So anyway! We were starving & the first thing we ordered was the Chicken Schnitzel ($19.90), served with lotus root chips and mesclun, the portion came just right for 3 person. The huge chicken breast was nicely fried thoroughly and wasn't too greasy, but seasoning can be improved.

Next we have our Truffle Fries ($12.90), the portion was more than enough to share between 5 people. Truffle oil was used but the taste wasn't that distinctive as I've expected. However, they did serve with truffled mayonnaise to strengthen the taste.

Of course, what's a cafe without coffee? We've got 3 cups of Magic ($5.50/ea). This is actually a 2:1 ratio of Ristretto to Milk. The balance was enjoyed first with the taste of milk followed by a slight bitter coffee kick. My friends didn't really like the bitterness but I kind of silently got addicted to it, there's just something impressive from the sips other than the beautiful coffee art.

Here comes the signature dishes! Strangers' Reunion is popularly well-known for their buttermilk waffles which everyone would definitely order. On the menu, customers can choose to have their waffles with the artisan Greek yogurt, vanilla icecream or maple syrup. We happily got ourselves the Buttermilk Waffles with Vanilla Icecream & Fresh Fruits ($12.90). This is probably one of the best waffles I've had in awhile! The light fluffy waffle was served golden crispy on the outside and showed no signs of imperfection. The high quality vanilla icecream and fresh fruits also compliment everything else really well.

We kind of wanted more after the first waffle so we went ahead to get another one! This is the Buttermilk Waffle with Strawberry Maceration & Icecream ($13.90). The waffles are all the same, but the fragrant batter and not-too-sweet overall just makes you want more everytime you finish one!

Overall, although the savoury dishes were considered quite normal, the waffles and coffee have lived up to their names! And despite its brisk business and full house night, the service staff were very efficient and were always on high alert to serve. The cosy ambience also makes everything else perfect for chilling or catching up! Will definitely return for the waffles!

The ice-cream was good though and did not taste cheap. I will not order this again.

My friend and me decided to have our cafe hopping monthly and this is our first stop. We decided to have dinner on friday night after work. It’s approximately 10-15 mins walking distance from Outram Park station. There are direct bus back to Bedok Interchange from the opposite bus stop.

We reached the cafe around 8pm and we still managed to get a seat. Lucky us! We were seated and served with menu and ice water. We looked around and see other tables serving and decide what to eat.

Here are the foods that we ordered that night. We were kinda disappointed as the serving sequence is unusual. We were served waffles first instead of the main course and the staff told us that we should inform them earlier on the sequence before serving. Staff feedback that some of the customers will have waffles as main course instead. So, if you are going to dine in, it would be good if you inform the staff on the sequence of your serving to avoid any disappointment.

Crispy Pork Belly @ S$24.90. The crispy pork belly served with truffle mash, ginger beer, apple & date chutney was served within 15 minutes time.We felt that the meat texture is slightly hard and dry but the truffle mash tasted lovely.

Mixed Berry Waffles @ S$14.90.The staff recommended us to try the buttermilk waffles with homemade mixed berry jam and vanilla ice-cream. It was a good idea as we both love the taste of the homemade mixed berry jam. The jam was rich in flavors and it blends well with the buttermilk waffles and ice-cream. Overall taste was just nice and sweetness was not overload.

Lotus Root Chips @ S$12.90.We decided to try this as it is rather interesting for us.Lotus root chips was great to satisfy the snacking habit. The tasted was crispy and slightly salty. But when we dip with the sauce served, it was good. Perfect for friends who wish to stay longer in the cafe and they can just munch it away.

Magic @ S$5.50.My friend in love with her choice. Double Ristretio with milk was a perfect ratio of coffee to milk which makes this serving taste awesome.
Our dinning experience was good but we do have difficulties seeking attention from the staffs. The cafe was full house and the staffs are busy fulfilling the orders. However, the staff still shows a smile on her face despite of overwhelming busy operation. We foot our bill of S$69.40 ( inclusive 10% service charge) at the cashier counter. The staff even greet us with conversation and welcomes our feedback too.

There can be high tables situated around as well. It didn't really affect me until we were seated at a really small table for 4 people, and there was one huge arm chair, and three stools for the other 3 to squeeze at two sides of the table.

Food wise, all of us ordered their breakfast sets. We liked the Eggs on Toast set which gives you the option to choose the type of eggs and other additions to the set. We also had the Egg Net Tempura Soft Shell Crab and Egg and Bacon Ciabatta. I really can't say much about the food except it was just average and nothing to wow about. We were pretty disappointed about the standard, and was looking forward to having their waffles, which we heard Strangers' Reunion was really famous for. Unfortunately, at 1pm the waffles were already sold out. No further explanation was given for that so we left the place in search for other dessert options.

Whether I'll head all the way down again to try their famous waffles, I'm not so sure. Probably not in the near future.

Truffle tries - portion is very big, good for 4 to share. Nothing to rave about, pretty average and truffle taste not that distinct. Liked their dip but it costs another $2 or $3 to get another serving as it supposedly has truffle in it as well.

).

The music is a bit too loud for any good conversation to be had, which is a shame for a lovely cafe like this. I would make it a regular hangout but the prices are a bit too steep, so I guess it'd have to be more like a once-in-a-while spot.

We were looking for something delightful to have, and since I had never visited Stranger’s Reunion before, the Buttermilk Waffles with Strawberry Maceration with Ice Cream ($12.00) was something I should try. The waffles were light and fluffy, and the batter was also fragrant. The strawberries were sweet though not overdone as it compliments with only a small touch of sweetness. Smother a bit of ice-cream over each bit of waffle, and that is really what I would call comfort food, at its best.

The Magic ($5.50) is also one of the signature items here, and Stranger’s Reunion is the first and only place to offer Magic in Singapore. Described as “a magical ratio of coffee to milk”, it is rather similar to a Flat White, though it carries a stronger coffee flavour at the end of each sip. While it is a good item to try as it is not really served elsewhere, it just does not seem as impressive to me as what some others may think.

We were craving for some cakes and so we decided to try Stranger's Reunion as we passed by the place. We had the green tea and red bean cake - it was a typical cake with green tea cream and bits of red beans, nothing special and wouldn't recommend it. Do try the crumble cheese cake, which was good on the other hand. The cheese was rich, but wasn't too overwhelming, and the crumble added a nice crunch.

The hollandaise sauce was not as generously drizzled over the poached eggs, and the salmon was just decent. The worse thing of all is that the eggs do not flow out as it should be. Well to be fair, this could be a decent eggs benedict but it won't hit my expectation considering I've tried Group Therapy's one. We tried to play around with customizing a brunch dish, so we ordered another eggs on toast, with our choice of bacon strips, hollandaise sauce and avocado. The egg was probably boiled too long, giving it too hard a texture. The other toppings like bacon strips and avocado tasted much better. The bacons gave the savory taste when eaten with the toast.

Anyway, there were a few different combinations of the buttermilk waffles and we ordered the one with vanilla icecream and fresh fruit ($11.50). The waffles are the thick and fluffy kind! I actually prefer my waffles to be crispy and light, but nevertheless I still enjoyed it! Especially with the icecream on top!

Feeling like having more, we went to check out the cake section which was pretty limited that day. We wanted to try their Red Velvet cake but I guess it was sold out, shall head there earlier next time! We ordered the Apple Crumble cake with icecream! Yes, we love the vanilla icecream, so creamy and smooth! The Apple Crumble cake is ordinary by itself, but makes a perfect combination with the icecream! Even though the place is crowded, their staffs kept looking around to check if any of the patrons needed anything etc and I would say their service is commendable!

And a snack to go along of course.
Like perhaps... truffle fries? At $12.90 this wasn't cheap. And sadly? Not truffled enough. It wasn't a thorough toss in the oil or perhaps not enough was used. The sides of the bowl had evidence of truffle oil though. We picked it up for a photo and had to get our hands washed. The garlic aioli was good but too watery. too many drips on clothes and arms. Case in point. I eventually asked for mayo before I became a garlic mess.

I love the space that this cafe has, it has a cosy feel, with cushions on the chairs as well as a homey feel to the ambience with a lot of wood. I also like that they have stainless steel incorporated into their design, giving the whole cafe a sleek finish. There is a good range of main courses served here, together with their signature waffles (which you can have with fruit/maple syrup, vanilla ice cream etc.) The food is local-fusion, and they have really interesting cakes with a local twist, as well as their very own rendition of kong ba pau!

We ordered Truffle Fries w Shaved Parmesan ($7), Waffle w Fresh Fruit & Maple Syrup ($11.90), Caffe Latte ($4.90) and Braised Pork Belly Buns (I think this was around $17-18)!

The latte is one of the best I've drunk recently, it's smooth and rounded -not too acidic too so its perfect for people like me who cannot stand acidic coffee. I enjoyed this blend particularly, but if you are up for Single origin beans, thats an additional $1. It's not too sweet (i'm not sure if you're supposed to add more sugar haha) and while I am the kind who likes my coffeee slightly more sweetened, I didn't really mind drinking this because it just tasted so good. Even when cold, it had a nice aromatic quality to it and a creamy taste that lingers. Highly recommended.

I've heard a lot about SR's waffles and I've decided that: life is short, waffles for lunch is not a crime. I went for the classic, with fresh fruit and maple syrup -and I was not disappointed one bit. On the contrary, these are the best waffles I've eaten! The maple syrup doesnt drench the waffle, and while I would have liked more strawberries + fruit, you can never go wrong with the berry/banana combo. The waffle is crisp on the outside but wonderfully fluffy within. It's neither chewy nor hard, nor is it floppy.

If you're feeling indulgent, go for the one w vanilla ice cream! Also, this can be pretty filling so you may want to share this with a friend if you're here for tea

The truffle fries were interesting because I do not normally enjoy cheese with my truffle fries but I made an exception for this. The parmesan had a nice subtle quality to it that did not ruin the taste of the fries. It also came with a dipping sauce (tasted somewhat like a more liquid tartare) which was pleasant -not too overpowering. The taste was good, but the fries were mediocre shoestring fries. They were hot, crispy and fluffy on the inside but there was just something about it that just wasn't extraordinary. Something to note would be the incredibly generous portion for $7. Really superb value!

The Braised Pork belly surprised me the most. It comes with pickled cabbage, coriander and a deliciously caramelised braised pork belly in a soft, fluffy white mantou (bun). The pork is delicious -slightly fatty, but delicious nonetheless. It has an initially savoury flavour that tapers off to a nice caramelly sweetness. The softness of the bun goes so well with the crunch of the pickled cabbage and the tender meat. Thinking about it makes me crave kung ba pau ... While it's very different from the traditional bun, the flavours come out top. And that is worth a special mention.

Strangers Reunion has lived up to its hype for its coffee and waffles (after hearing so much about it, you should let curiosity get the better of you because its just so darn worth it!) The service is also wonderful, the staff is efficient, friendly and the whole ambience is relatively upbeat. We definitely recommend this place for a chillout lunch with a friend to catch up, or for tea (coffee!) in the afternoon with waffles/cake. Prices are a little on the steep side for the mains (fish, chicken etc) as it can go up to >$20, but for small eats like the sides, cakes and waffles, it's more than reasonable.

This is my very first visit to Stranger's Reunion and they have now expanded to a bigger shop space! I could actually get a chance to visit the first shop which is smaller but cosy. Silly me forgot to check the opening hours and ended up going on their rest day! Lol

Anyway i'm glad to be finally here so let's see what i've tried. It didn't take me long to decide what i want, going to try the popular items which i've heard so much about it. It shall be Magic for my coffee and the waffles!!

Magic - 2 ristretto shots with a thick milk foam on top. Nice balanced cup of coffee which i enjoyed with a nice swan coffee art.

Buttermilk Waffles - This sure is a popular item. Almost every table has this and i was praying it be a good choice cause i heard from someone that standard seems to have drop a bit. Eagerly took my first bite and i wasn't disappointed.

It's so good! Fluffy in the inside and crispy golden brown crust exterior! It's simply oh my god!

Had a really great brunch with good food and coffee! Definitely be back again but this time i hope the aircon can be stronger! Hehe

Truffle Fries One of the better truffle fries in town. I could actually taste the truffle oil in the fries but of course, it could be stronger. Fries were nice and fresh. So delicious. The smell of buttermilk was there and the waffles are crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I felt that they should have been more generous with the fruits (cmon, they are not that expensive!).

Magic
The cafe says that it is a winning ratio of coffee to milk and I completely agree. With every sip, you will first taste warm milk and then, the taste of coffee will kick in. One of the more interesting kind of coffee in town.

I didn't get to try their mains this time round but I will be back soon. The only downside of this place is that it's slightly on the pricy side and the tables are placed really near to each other so no private conversations can be held.
