I told my girlfriend and her best friend last evening that Thai food is served in ala carte style at Suanthai with a reasonable buffet prices (value-for-money for standard one at $22.90++), so they agreed to go there for a trial after reading review from LadyIronChef. Subsequently, I call to reserve a table for 3 at 8.00 p.m. so that three of us can take a short walk from Somerset (Orchard Central).

Luckily, we did not order the premium ala carte buffet menu ($28.90++) because all of us hated all stuffs from the standard one except Green Mango Salad, Stir Fried Long Beans With Soya Sauce and Thai Style Fish Fillet.

At first, we thought the website (www.ladyironchef.com/2012/03/suanthai-restaurant-killiney-road/) made sure all the unbiased food reviews are good to eat. However, we were very disappointed with their services because only 2 persons are working as service crew running the whole shops.
Before my girlfriend paid the bill, we knew that there's nothing more we could have further with this kind of services being provided because that reminded me of the Pandan Chicken and lots of other dish were not being served, which we had ordered immediately after taking our seats outside of the shop.

I really do not know why we were being treated so miserable. For example, the Satay was being served only one stick per person.

I hoped that the chef can make a mass preparation on all dishes for their buffet in the future.

This restaurant was recommended by my colleague, and was really glad that I managed to try the food here.  Restaurant is small but still cozy and comfortable. Waitress here are quite attentive and friendly.  For $18.90 per adult, is value for money.  Stuffed chicken wings are my favourite as the meat is very juicy and fresh, which is boneless inside and really filling.  Outer crust is crispy and not too oily.  Green curry is fragrant and the cury gravy is thick and creamy.  Tom yum soup is more

Bought deal coupons online for $14.50 each. After taxes, gst and free flow of ice-lemon tea for $3.90++, we ended up paying $23 for each person. Ordered the kai lan vegetables but it did not come and we decided to give up waiting. Food was mediocre and the tom yum soup which was supposed to be one of the highlights of thai cuisine was such a disappointment. There was a lack of tom yum taste and ingredients were not fresh. It is a buffet but there are a couple of dishes that we can only order once. I'm better off ordering ala carte from a thai restaurant than paying a discounted price (yet over $20) for mediocre food.

Cheap and good buffet. their mango salad is nice, chicken nice, dessert nice, we order a lot for our buffet, very fulling meal, overall their food is not so traditionally thai except for some of the main dishes like tom yum soup, mango salad, chicken, and their dessert, for this price of buffet, i would not complain much, their portion is big. for those looking for good and reasonable thai buffet, this is the one. i also love their free flow of dessert, very nice.

the green curry took about 15mins to come, either they forget about the order or too many people already. anyway i dont like this, too few green curry spices taste and too watery already.

thai rice crackers w mayoinaise chicken
the rice crackers also took a long time to come, although we have no eagerness for it also. the rice crackers is not crunchy, and the mayonaise thingie is not nice!

overall the buffet is too normal to be good with this pricing. Not recommended.

The salad and dessert section was self service.
*Thai style chicken satay was tender and juicy. Each a stick and it was really well seasoned that we wanted more.
*Stir fried mixed seafood with basil & long beans arrived and we felt like we ordered a 'cze char' dish. It was simple and yet delicious, especially when the ingredients were fresh.
Rice cracker that were supposed to go with a special sauce. We made a mistake and used that sauce for our stuffed
chicken wings instead! Anyway, we went to dip this cracker into the green curry as it was rather tasteless by itself.
Pineapple fried rice was really tasty and we ordered 2 plates of it. There were pineapple cubes and spices which added
flavour to the rice. This was my first time eating rice in a buffet. (I usually avoided rice as it was meant to fill people up
quickly.)
*Tom Yam soup with prawns was a dish that we did not enjoy. Firstly, this harmless clear looking soup was really super
spicy and I coughed after drinking a mouthful. Try it if you enjoy spicy.
*Boneless stuffed chicken wings was one of our favourite. These thick looking wings looked really satisfying even
before I tried one. Before I knew it, I bit into the thick fleshy meaty piece. Beneath the charred skin were stuffed minced
meat I supposed. This was what I called meat extension!
Thai Fish Cake was just average to us. A little too hard and spicy for me.
Thai Spring Roll was not too bad. I treated it as a snack.
*Chicken wrapped in pandan leaf was another really yummy dish. I think that we enjoyed all the 3 1-time-order-only
chicken dishes the most! Juicy, tender and infused with pandan fragrance and flavor.
Green Curry with chicken was a common Thai dish. Luckily it was not spicy and we managed to clear it up.
With so much food, we needed a cool palate cleanser and each of us topped up $3.50 for free flow of lime juice. It was really a refreshing drink (not too sour and it did not make my saliva sticky after drinking).
Chicken with basil leaf and eggplant. This dish as well as the following few felt like 'cze char' too. Nothing bad about
them and we just wiped them up.
Chicken with cashew nuts was rather simple. We did not order any beef as Nyx could not eat due to religion.
Penang curry with sliced fish fillets. Each slice was coated evenly with the thick curry sauce, making the taste strong and
flavourful.
Deep fried fish fillets with sweet, sour and spicy sauce. A typical Chinese style dish I supposed.
The Thai red ruby and just so-so. I found the ice too coarse and the chestnuts were too large in size.

If you want some tasty and authentic thai food, be sure to check out this place. Go for the buffet and it is rather worth it. They do have many food available. From their refreshinf salads, to soup, to rice, noodles, kuay tiao, meat, and even dessert. However, do note that some dishes can only be ordered once. But i find that rather acceptable since it's a buffet, you will definitely feel satisfied after eating.

After that, you can choose whatever dishes you want from the list. The chicken satay is very nice. They use lean chicken meat. The chicken in pandan leaves is nice too as there is pandan leave fragrance when you eat it. As for the tom yum soup is good. Sour and spicy. There are prawns, lemongrass, mushrooms in it. I love their green mango salad. It is very nice and sour. There are peanuts in it. The salads are self service. You can scoop them at the salad counter. The thai red ruby is filled with crunchy waterchest and not too sweet. The steamed tapioca is very tasty. It is so nice that we order twice. The price is very reasonable. They have free flow of lime juice & pineapple rice.

Suanthai might not be a good experience. for buffet, but ala carte can be a wise choice. There is a real ambiance and the food is good as soon as we stay on a la carte dishes. Deep fried garoupa served with mango salad - this should be the best dish for the night. Fish is very fresh and deep fried to golden brown perfection. Together with the mango salad sourness , it opens my appetite. Think it's one of the chef's recommendation dishes and was recommended by the waiter who took our order too.

Mango sticky rice - my favourite thai dessert. STicky rice with coconut milk was served steaming hot. Very nice indeed. However the mango is not as sweet as i thought.
