Today Valerie wants to buy some pineapple tarts and we decide to visit this outlet. The pineapple tart here is very famous in Taiwan. The tarts are freshly produced in Taiwan with pineapples from Ba Gua (Eight Trigram) Moutain, eggs from Sunny Eggs farm in Taiwan, baking flour from Japan and butter from New Zealand. With no preservatives and additives added, the expiry date for the pineapple tarts is usually quite short (about 2 weeks). At the door we are greeted by a staff who asks if we have t

The place is decorated in all natural wood and minimalist Japanese with calming music in the background. The row of pictures reminds me of Jiufen, an old gold mining town in Taiwan.

We are showed to the main table where a complimentary serving of a pineapple tart and a cup of organic Oolong Tea is presented to each of us. At the first look, the tart is different from the usual pineapple tarts (usually it is a cube form in Taiwan) with it oblong bar shape.

The pineapple tart does not taste too sweet, with a hint of tart taste. It goes well with the smooth tasting tea. The place is quite relaxing and tea is refillable here.

A box of 10 pieces of the individually packed pineapple tarts here costs $25 and is nicely packed into a cloth bag for takeaway. Remember to take note of the expiry date. By the way it is halal certified, as I have noticed the logo on the side of the box.

Sunny Hills is a taiwanese specialty bakery selling gourmet Pineapple Cake 凤梨酥, made with fresh pineapple from Taiwan. In Singapore, it has an outlet at Raffles Hotel. The pineapple cake is individually packed with its cute little logo on top. The pineapple cake is different from the usual pineapple tarts found in Singapore, as the filling in enclosed with the pastry and shaped as a block. Taste wise I feel that the pastry is a bit too dry and not enough butter. The filling has a juicy texture a

For a box of 10 pieces, it costs $25 a box, which works out about $2.50 a piece. Not cheap for a small piece of pineapple cake, which is similar in size to our local pineapple tart.

It was lovely to find warm Taiwanese hospitality at this store with friendly service, generous full sized samples and best of all no hard sell or softsell tactics to pressure passerby to buy their wares. The crust was buttery and crumbly, and the shortcake was cramped full with moist flavorful pineapple filling. This is real pineapple filling - juicy, tangy and full of bite not the usual saccharine pineapple jam or pure that has no mouth feel at all. Not cheap at $25 for a box of 10pcs, but you

Was attracted by the nice packaging of it and decided to buy a box of it to share with my fellow colleagues. The outer pastry looks really nice in it's golden brown colour, however it was not crunchy and too firm in texture. The pineapple filling was sort of abit too dry for me and also quite sweet as well. The combination of the crust and filling does not bring me any surprises and was too expensive as well.
