Har Kao & Siew Mai : S$2.20 & S$1.80 respectively
Har Kao (Shrimp Dumpling) has springy chewy prawns although the "crystal-liked" wrap was abit thick. Siew Mai was pretty common and nothing to rave about.

Service
After placing our order with the staff, the order was summarized in the slip given and place on the table. And this will be strike off one by one as the dish arrives. This practice had been seen commonly in most of the dim sum places.

A large group of head counts were seen. Service was quite prompt with staff coming once in a while to check the remaining orders. Friendly and cheerful staff are seen. However food that comes to us was very slow.

Ambience
As we reached there, the internal were full house and we can only sit outdoors. Swee Choon Dim Sum has gained its reputation over the years and loved by the majority. Besides selling dim sum, they are also selling other chinese dishes.

Price
Pricing is reasonable.

Recommendations / Tips
My conclusion for Swee Choon Dim Sum's is standard of food was more of the "sit-on-the-fence" scale, whereby, their dim sums are not run-of-the-mill nor the lousy ones. Nothing too bad and nothing too good. However, they have matches the basic taste and criteria of a normal dim sum meal thus giving a very good guideline what is expected in the dim sum cuisine.

Each plate only consists of two har gaos which means one is for $1.10.
It is slightly more expensive than usual but !!! It is definitely worth it. It is probably the best 虾饺 I ever eat. The prawns are fresh and it fills up the whole dumpling. Unlike other restaurants where they only fill the dumpling with probably half of the prawn? Love the prawn dumpling here!

2. Steamed Pork Ribs ($2.50)

You still can give it a try if you are there too!

Having said that it is $4 for 4, it is actually a dollar for every one you pop into your mouth. Haha! The outer layer of the dumpling is thicker than what i expected but the filling was great! It was so juicy and meaty! Thumbs up sign

4.虾仁炒饭 (Prawn Fried Rice) $4.50

The rice was very dry and hard. You definitely need a cup of drink when you are having the fried rice. Not recommended though.

That's it from me!
This would be my favourite place for dim sum at night!

Speaking about dim-sums, my makan buddies are forever raving about Swee Choon, a well-known and established local restaurant which has opened its doors since the 1960s. As a huge dim-sum lover, I knew I would be sorry if I gave this a miss.

Located at the heart of Jalan Besar, in the district of Little India, Swee Choon is well-known for delicacies such as xiao long bao, la mian and various Hong Kong and Shanghai dim-sum. Opened from 6pm to 6am to serve your dim-sum cravings even at the wee hours, be not surprised to see long queues starting at approximately 5.30pm.

One of their signature creations, Swee Choon Mee Suah Kueh (S$2.00 for 2) - deep fried vermicelli cake with crispy brown skin, while the interior is soft and steamy. Although one might think that noodles and cakes are not quite a match, but I dare say that this uniquely scrumptious dish will prove you wrong.

Their Fried Custard Pumpkin (S$1.80 for 2) is decent with a slight tinge of sweetness. However, the skin is too thick and starchy for my liking.

The classic Siew Mai (S$1.80 for 2) is slightly longer than standard and tasted decent, the meat is a little over-minced, resulting in the lack of different textures. I prefer the ones at 126 Eating House much more.

My favourite is their Red Bean Paste Pancake (S$4.80) - sweet red bean paste enclosed in a thin layer of crispy skin. Trust me when I say the crunch is loud and how I wished they'd serve a scoop of good chocolate ice cream with this.

Another must-try is their signature Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun also known as "Liu Sha Bao" (S$3.00 for 3). The rich sweet custard explodes when you sink your teeth in it. The saltiness of the yolk and sweetness of the custard complemented each other, making this one of their winning dishes.

Another of their speciality, Swee Choon Big Pau (S$1.60) is another winner. Big fluffy chinese bun filled with minced pork, a piece of chicken, egg and half a shitake mushroom. Best to eat it while it's hot.

We also ordered the Sichuan Chilly Oil Wanton La Mian (*S$4.80). The noodles were a tad too starchy for usual la mian, but the wanton is good.

Lastly, we had the Fried Hor Fun w/ Shrimp in Creamy Egg Sauce (*S$4.80). Delicious dish with fresh succulent shrimps in an abundance of creamy sauce (just look at that eggy goodness!)

Since dinner consisted of notsosatisfying tapas?

These pumpkin babies were just too cute!

This was a glutinous rice ball (think of those sesame balls with a peanut filling) filled with warm flowing custard.
Ohmyyum.

I could be biased because I like taro.
But that aside, it was a light crispy exterior of batter that gave way to a delightful yam puff with small cubes of taro evident in between bites.
And the minced meat mixture was just the best savoury treat encased within.

and the carrot cake is
a perennial favourite.
for this i would eat waxed meat.
and a whole load of mayo.
this is my idea of comfort food.
and a definite diet spoiler.

molten. flowy.
this was much more than I expected.

I also ordered their unique fried mee suah which is one of the signature of swee choon but i find it not worth the calories as there are so many things else to try! the beancurd roll was good with huge fresh prawns inside and not too salty at all. We also ordered a 'liang cai'-chinese cold appetizer-- which is made of black fungus and cucumber just to add some 'freshness' to the meal..

the high light of the night this time round ....*drum rolls* is the fried fish skin and crepe with egg and meat floss.
The fried fish skin is oh-so-crunch and not fishy at all! I can easily eat this down as a snack in front of the tv. Lol. The crepe with egg and meat floss is surprisingly good and somehow the whole combination worked very well. Usually crepes are quite tasteless but this one has a very fragrant and chewy bite.

Many more times to this restaurant to come!

It's the 3rd visit to Swee Choon Dim Sum.

I would say, the food is great and cheap at reasonable prices. 4 person paid for <$60Some of the food item, I ordered for the first time. But not all the food are shown in the pictures. They open from 6pm to 6am and if you want to try, I suggest you to reach around 6pm - 6.15pm if you do not like to wait.

I reached around 7pm and waited for about 20 - 30min as we wanted the air-conditioned area. The waiting time wasn't that bad since we waited for about 10 numbers. Their Salted Egg Yolk Bun is a must-try! But remember, to eat around 1 per pax and at the most 2. (1 basket has about 3) If you eat too much, you will get pretty sick of the food and it will not be as nice compared to the first time you eat it. They are fast and efficient to collect the empty plates/baskets etc.

BBQ Pork Rice, First time trying. The Portion wasn't very big but since it's a place for dim sum, you can just order 1 and share with your friends! With that, you can order more food to try!!

Beancurd Prawn Roll. First time trying this and it is very nice. The skin isn't too thick and the prawn filling is superb! You can really feel the prawn filling because it is not chopped but as a whole prawn.

Carrot Cake. This is also my first try. The carrot cake has 2 pieces and cut into 3 pieces each. A very good way to share among your friends. There are some tiny vegetables inside but it gives the carrot cake more taste. Give it a try if you like carrot cake!

Fried Prawn Dumpling w/Mayonnaise. First try for this dish and like the beancurd prawn roll, you can really taste the prawn filling inside. Thus, it's definitely worth for money! Furthermore, it's nice too!

Spring Roll. I didn't try this dish but according to my friend, the taste of vegetables is pretty strong. Thus making it like a vegetarian dish and she doesn't really like it.

Xiao Long Bao is also a must try. Most people would love Xiao Long Bao but I think Swee Choon's XLB is not bad. The taste is superb!

Fried Golden Doufu. is also a must-try. Well, most people might feel that "Fried" so it is going to be deep fried or something. But no, I think it's just slightly fried on the outside and I'm not a tofu lover but I really find Swee Choon's Fried Golden Doufu nice. Remember, eat it with the floss on top of the tofu otherwise, it will just taste normal.

Pan Fried Pork Dumpling. Most dumpling would have vegetables but not much for this. However, this is a little too oily. Otherwise, it would have been perfect.

Overall, most of the dishes at Swee Choon is very nice and worth the price as it is at a reasonable and affordable price. We had 4 pax and the total cost was around $57 including drinks and that we were all very full after that. It is also a good place to have a gathering with your friends. Furthermore, it opens throughout the night! People can always come down for a supper but I'm not too sure about the wait since it is usually packed. If you have yet to try Swee Choon, it's a must to try at least once! You might just fall in love with it!

Okay, i lost most of my photos of swee choon's dim sum ( i don't know where it go when transferring the photos to the computer), so pardon me for description only but no photos! We ordered quite a few items off the list because of its' very cheap and affordable food items.First, we got the carrot cake that is really a definitely must-try. First, we got the carrot cake that is really a definitely must-try. It cost about $4 for two pieces, and it's really crispy and the inside is so mushy that is a perfect combination, when you eat it the juice (oil, i guess) oozes out.

We also ordered siew mai, which is quite cold so i don't know if they actually put on the counter for quite long. We also had century egg porridge, and also there was har gao. THE HARGAO is a must-try!!! Their home-made barley is also very cooling and soothing, so after all the sort-of heaty food it's best to order that!
