Swensen's has been a family restaurant that does American classic dishes with a local twist in Singapore since 1979. Firecracker Soft Shell Shrimps $8.50++These flavoured bombs are coated with a tasty blend of spices and fried for that perfect crunch. They are outrageously addictive, these lightly battered morsels are served with swensen's very own pineapple BBQ sauce. The batter around the shrimp was salty but not too overpowering, paired with the sweet and savoury sauce, I could devour all the shrimp and yet not feel overly thirsty!They were very generous with the shrimps as I think there had to be at least 20 of them. When I was finally though an entire generation of shrimps. Lo and behold, there was a a bed of thick cut french fries!! The fries together with the pineapple BBQ sauce was a match made in heaven! I highly recommend ordering this just for the sauce! 2. Chicken Istimewa $15.90++Succulent Chicken laced in a mild spricy fragrant marinate with tastes from exotic Indonesia. The chicken is grilled to perfection, leaving a very juicy and succulent chicken thigh meat. Served with traditional sambal balachan, which I found a bit too spicy and achar. This is the epitome of a rich Asian culture that makes you feel right at home for Christmas.The chicken was very memorable and there were 2 big pieces. I felt that they could've served you more rice, as the rice portion was very small, and more like a tiny sidedish! The rice could've been a coconut seasoned rice like the nasi lemak kind. 3. Chocopop $5.50++Chocolate ice cream coated with cocoa pops. I wanted the Ol'Vanilla as it was coated with almonds but after ordering, a staff came back to explain that they had run out and recommended this instead.Despite it's glamorous look, it was actually completely frozen. It took about 10 minutes of starring at it on a plate, before my teeth could BITE into it. There's chocolate ice cream all the way to the bottom of the cone as well! I loved the creamy, sweet and slightly bitter chocolate ice cream!Swensen's has developed over the years to become a restaurant chain offering not only ice cream, but fun and friendly casual-dining with a wide selection of hearty food, desserts, beverages, ice cream cakes and takeaway novelties. This is probably one of the biggest Swensen's I've been to, they even have a section of the restaurant that overlooks the front of the Plaza Singapura.At 1130am on a sunday, there weren't many customers and we quickly got a table. The staff were attentive and friendly.1. Slippery Lobster Roll $17.90++The last time I ate this, it was during a lobster special for Swensens and they only sold it for a short period, but I'm super delighted to know that they have this on their regular menu now. The lobster still tastes fresh and the bread is just as crispy and delicious. I'm addicted to this! It comes with a side coleslaw and french fries.2. Baked Spaghetti $14.20++The portion here is definitely enough for 2 people. It can get also get a bit gerlat. I loved the meatballs, they were pretty tasty and juicy. The baked cheese on top mixed well with the spaghetti sauce.3. Chendol Delight $10.90++As a chendol lover, I decided to get this. There were alot of attap seeds. The chendol jelly is the dark green kind which was slighly harder than the light green kind. The gula melaka ice cream was very lemak, I'm sure lots of coconut milk was used to make this ice cream. The portion here is really pretty big and fills up your stomach! I have ordered the crispy cereal chicken which is one of the new dishes they have here. I had a Christmas Party and the host ordered Swensen Ice Cream chocolate log cake. It was about a 1.5 kg cake. When the cake was served, it was still hard and had not melted. Once it was cut, the chocolate had made it easy to eat. The ice cream was not too cold to cause sensitive toothache. It cake was not dry but it was perfect as ice cream. Smoked Salmon Salad in Mango Sauce: I've always loved smoked salmon, so I ordered this salad. The mango sauce seemed special and mixed well with the salad. The tangy fruity sauce with some sourness and the saltiness of smoked salmon is very matching and complements well.Salmon Baked Rice: The baked rice at Swensen's is my all-time favourite. The gravy is very flavourful, together with the smoked salmon in it and the fragrant butter rice, the whole dish is just sinful yet delicious.Banana Crumble Sizzling Pan: This is one of the must-try desserts in Swensen's. After having dinner, my cousins and I had cravings for ice-cream, so we decided to have some at Swensen's. Swensen's have a wide range of ice cream flavours, so naturally we thought of having ice cream there. We ordered their 'Giant Earthquake', which consisted of 8 scoops of different types of ice cream, topped with cherries and whipped cream. Giant Earthquake was served it with dry ice in the middle, making it look really grand and delicious. As there were 4 of us, each of us got to choose 2 different flavours of ice-cream. We chose Butterscotch, Hazelnut, Durian Supreme, Milo, Mocha Almond Fudge, Ol' Fashioned Vanilla, Mango and Lime Sherbet. However, to our dismay, our ice cream arrived half-melted. Apparently, it was left on the counter for quite some time before it was served to us as the staff forgot about it. :( Butterscotch: This tasted just alright to me. Plain boring butterscotch, nothing special.Hazelnut: Light hazelnut flavour.Durian Supreme: The BEST of the lot. Strong durian flavour, smooth and yet you could feel bits of durian meat in between. A definite must have!Milo: Just milo. But still nice nevertheless. A must try if you're a Milo lover like me! :)Mocha Almond Fudge: Mocha flavoured, with bits of almond in between. Nice combo. i feel Swensens serves one of the nicest and crispiest chicken and i especially love this chicken fingers that is seen over here. This crispy dish is really finger licking good and the chicken is still not too bad even if it is kept for a few hours and being made hot. I had the beef stroganoff baked rice when I visit Swensen’s one day cos I was craving for some baked rice. Ditch my usual curry chicken baked rice and chose this instead, and I was disappointed. The baked rice is cooked perfectly, the rice is just nice, the cheese melts evenly and the beef… it was so tender and juicy! I would consider having this again if I wanted some baked rice in future. When in doubt, choose Swensens. Also ordered the Swensens Fish & Chips ($16.80) which was the usual favourite and indeed it does not disappoint! The fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside as usual, and Swensens fries had maintained its standard all these years since my childhood days.With a main course, you can add-on $4 for a soup and a drink! Original price for soup is $5.50. This is the first time I'm trying the cream of carrot of Swensens, which was really good! I was expecting something very carrot-y when I heard the name, perhaps entirely orange in color. Yet I was still curious enough to try it. In the end I really liked it and I ended up eating the whole soup up! There was faint carrot flakes in the soup, and also a soft hint of carrot. Other than that it was just sweet and savoury at the same time and really yummy. If you've been shying away from this Soup of the Day at Swensens, why not give it a try?
