Frankly speaking, I  am always afraid of barbecue because of the possible smoke and greasiness. Surprisingly, I still walked out of the restaurant smelling good. All thanks to the high performance exhaust system!
Their buffet pricing is slightly steep but the ingredients are really fresh & the meat are well seasoned. We especially love the Wagyu Karubi, pork belly & garlic rice (very fragrant). Their sashimi were thickly sliced & fresh & their prawns were big.
They have a sauce dish which contains 3 types of sauces in 3 separate columns, for beef  seafood & chicken/pork. The meat still tastes good regardless of any sauce you dip in

Overall, we had a nice experience dinning at Tajimaya.

we had always gone to aburiya. maybe it was familiarity & convenience, even though we knew that tajimaya by the creative eateries group had amex discounts.
this the first time we were dining here. amex offer was 1person off, so 33% discounts for 3pax alacarte exclude drinks.
looking at the menu we felt the prices were kind of expensive. another negative point was they did not serve tap water. so only 2 options – pay S$5.90++ for 1litre bottled water OR S$3++pax for tea (refillable). we ordered 3 tea, but if i go again, i am quite prepared to go w/o water during the meal.
i am ok with restaurants charging for water. however i think it should be like S$0.30 or S$0.50 or max S$1 & refillable, NOT S$5.90 for 1 litre water (bottled or tap).
we added the wagyu towards the end decided that since we were there, might as well gave it a try. the kuroge wagyu (黑毛和牛) karubi (short ribs) was good. not sure if worth money even with 33% discounts but it was good.
our first orders were the USA ribeye & karubi, and the kurobuta pork jowl. all were good though my wife preferred the beef shio (just salt) so we late had the wagyu order shio.
for me, both beef were good, and the kurobuta was best.
we had the beef ishiyaki don. we must be hungry as we added also the pork ishiyaki don.
how did tajimaya match up with aburiya. we missed our favourite kimchi chigae & the bibimen (cold spicy noodles) at aburiya. the ishiyaki don here i would rate as better than aburiya’s bibimbab as it had a lot more ingredients – quite substantial beef & pork. meat wise my wife still preferred aburiya. i am ok with both.
our dinner was S$186nett for 3pax after discounts. that though included the expensive wagyu & also S$30++ for sake & S$9++ for 3 tea.
for me, tajimaya was too ex w/o discounts. with discount, it was an alternative to aburiya though I preferred aburiya also for the kimchi chigae & bibimen

Wagyu Tongue, one of my friend always travel to Japan and say Wagyu Tongue is so nice and so she recommended us to order and try. When she first say tongue, I am like "what? tongue?" she bbq one slice for me to try, it is so tender and soft, the tongue meat is so different from the normal wagyu beef, it is so much softer and tender, nice.

Tajimaya Yakiniku has a good variety of Japanese beef, pork cuts as well as seafood drizzled with their self-concocted sauce that adds a punch of flavour to the meats. I will recommend the Kurobuta Pork Jowl as well as the Kurobuta Pork Belly. The fats from the pork belly made it even more tender and flavorful. The pork here is also very tender and mouth-watering.

The Kurobuta pork is very tender and mouth watering. The Ebi Tempura is quite crispy. The salad looks rather sad and limp, and tastes is lacking. The amount of assorted vegetables is a bit small.

It tastes like Rabbit brand sweet and extremely sweet.
All of us do not quite like it.

Please note that there is no free flow of iced water here. The staff will recommended you to order a bottle of still water.

Total amount with drinks is $200.05.

Ambience was great, service was prompt. Generally a good experience but not worth the value if you are there for BBQ. If I did not have vouchers given to me I would not have tried out the place. I took the Kurotabo Pork set for 2 and additional Pork Collar and Wagyu(can't recall which part).Wagyu was tasty but the pork tasted common.Spent about $60+/person. Would rather go to a good Korean BBQ restaurant.

Tajimaya, another concept restaurant under the creativEATeries umbrella, is a relative newcomer in the local Japanese BBQ scene. We've only ever been to Gyu-Kaku and Aburiya. Tajimaya differs slightly from the 2 other more established Jap BBQ chains in that there's only one standard marinade for the meats, methinks it's teriyaki (the other 2 offer up to 4 or 5 different marinades). Also, their beef is only available in 2 different types, the more full-bodied US Black Angus range (Gyu-Kaku and Aburiya don't offer US beef) or the highly-marbled more delicate Japanese wagyu variety (whereas the other 2 offer only Japanese beef, but in different marbling grades).

Tajimaya seems to have a better ventilation system though, my hair didn't have any lingering smells of charcoal smoke and cooking marinades. I suppose it's gotta do with its more airy, less-closeted high-ceiling-ed dining space. As a bonus, the outdoors area affords a very pretty view of the Sentosa waterfront

We got:

1) US Beef Karubi ($18.90), using US Black Angus short rib. This was very robust beef, full-on red meat flavour. This was, despite the juiciness, a little chewy though. We should have done this medium rare

2) Wagyu Karubi ($28.90) Japanese short ribs which were more delicate than the US beef. It could also be that this was very much more marbled than the US beef, resulting in very much more tender meat

3) Kurobuta Pork Jowl ($16.90) long strips of lean pork, also marinated with teriyaki, solid stuff

4) Chicken ($10.90) succulent juicy chunks dripping with marinade and thoroughly seasoned

We both enjoy Japanese Charcoal Grill but it's really expensive in Singapore and till date we have only tried 2 places. Aburiya at Robertson Quay and another restaurant in Taipei.

Instead of ordering set meal. We chose ala carte of what we wanted to eat.
The mushrooms were fragrant and soft.
The Pork Belly was really fresh and the seasoning enhance the flavour of the good cut of meat.

Definately a good place to go if you are willing to pay that amount for the good cuts of the meat and if you love charocal grill!

Yes, as the name of the restaurant implies, we need to cook our own food, this made our lunch a little more interesting just like a kitchen story.

Chicken ($9.90) was the most boring order of all. Seriously, the level of tenderness depends on how good you are at grilling stuff. We have our hits and misses while some meat turned out succulent others end up tough.

Love the Kurobuta Pork Belly ($10.90) and will just go back to Taijimaya just for the kurobuta pork. We learnt quickly and placed the pork at the strongest fire. My friend grilled them quickly to achieve the charred and yet tender texture. The meat was really fresh and the subtle seasoning did its job of just enhancing the flavour of such a good cut of meat.

For the quality and quantity of fresh meats, Taijimaya has super reasonable pricing. Don't think we can get such a huge plate of salmon for just $10 at the supermarket. If there is anything to rant about it will be the uneven thickness of the fish which gave us a hard time estimating the perfect cooking time.

Teriyaki Gindara aka Cod ($12.90) was excellent (if you are not already spoilt by black cod). Cod gave us a much easier time as no matter how long we left them on the grill, the oily and firm texture stayed.

At the end of the meal, I felt happy and well-fed! Taijimaya is definitely not a place I will go for a first date. Although the interior is nice and clean but we end up smelling like a kitchen at the end of the meal!
