My brother brought my family to this dim sum restaurant in Chinatown and in my opinion if you were to look at taste, location and price, Tak Po is a really great place to go for dim sum! I brought my girlfriend for a quick meal here and these are the dishes we ordered:The Steamed Egg cake is probably my favourite dish of the meal! It came warm and had a really nice fluffy texture to it! Tasty and divine! We had porridge with the century egg, and it was neither too salty or bland and had the right amount of taste. Siew Mai was decent and average. There's obviously much tastier siew mai in other restaurants, but at this place I would consider it a steal. It was served warm and the tastiness satisfied us. The Shrimp Chee Chong Fun was good and decent, they gave quite a number of shrimps in the filling so that was a plus point!Do come earlier as the restaurant is usually very crowded during meal times! continue reading

I was introduced to this dim sum at Chinatown by one of my colleagues who frequently goes there for his dim sum fix. As I only had my wife with me, we ordered a few dishes to share, the har gow, siew mai, yam cake, century egg porridge and deep fried prawn roll with beancurd skin. Of all the dishes that we ordered, my favourite one is the yam cake and the har gow. The yam cake is topped spring onions, dried shrimps and bits of chinese sausage. Eaten as a whole, the taste is really good. Also the yam cake is quite soft and there are bits of yam inside. It is flavourful on its own without having to add any chili or sweet sauce. My other favourite dish is the har gow because of the crunchy prawns which has a lot of bite. The filling is made using prawns and not prawn/meat paste. The har gow skin is also very thin and soft which is basically what a good har gow should be. For good and affordable dim sum, Tak Po is definitely my choice. continue reading

Everytime I crave for nice dimsum without spending a lot, I'll go for Tak Po restaurant. So far I stick with this restaurant after trying a few restaurants because basically the siewmai, har gao, feng jiao, pai ku and other standard dimsum selections are very fresh, nice with affordable price. The place is located in the Smith Street, easy to locate and also always crowded. Thus sometimes you need to wait for around 5 to 10 min for available seat. Also the waitresses are all very busy and so do not expect the "hotel" service standard. The service is basically quite bad, the waitresses and managers are quite rude, but well, I go there to enjoy the food... so don't really make any differences for me :>For 2 pax is always around $38 if you eat until you very very full (promise yourself you won't eat dimsum again for one month, but after few weeks, you'll crave again for dimsum >__<)....that 's always happen for me >_<...So for dimsum lover, u really should try here because it is very nice. However strange thing is got 1 time I went there, the food was not nice at all, but after that I gave it a try again and turned out to be nice again. So I'm happy customer now continue reading
