The restaurant was located at the middle of a row of shophouses, with Raffles Place and Clark Quay as the nearest MRT station. The dining in area was quite small for indoor, just 2 tables which could seat 6 people each, and the counter table which could seat about another 6 people. Besides here, one could also dine outside by the river. It was quite cooling and romantic with soft lighting around. We started the meal with a glass of Kirin ($10/ 270ml). It was cool and refreshing. The first dish served to us was the appetizer platter, which had 4 appetizers - Garden Salad, Oitashi, Truffle Edamame, and Sardine NAMBAN DUKE.Garden SaladLight and crunchy with soyu dressing.Oitashi ($6)Boiled green leaves seasoned with broth. The soft greens was crunchy and soaked up the flavours from the broth.Truffle Edamame ($5.50)Boiled soy beans flavoured with trufflesIt was crunchy inside but did not see any truffle nor tasted any.Sardine NAMBAN DUKE ($5.50)Deep fried and marinated baby sardine style escabeche.Quite different from the usual sardine's taste. I thought it was smelt fish from the first look.Singapore Roll ($13 small (4 pieces) / $23 medium (8 pieces)Wrapped with crab, avocados, tomatoes, and seasoned with chilli flakes.Sashimi Combination of the Day ($35/ 3 kinds)We were also served salmon sushi and swordfish sushi. The raw fish was quite fresh, but that was a bit too rice for me.DASHI-MAKI Eggs ($12)Japanese omeletteThe egg roll was topped with grated radish seasoned with soyu and small white fish.Interesting and simple dish.A4 Wagyu Sukiyaki (Limited Price $29)$10 for every 100grams of extra beef, $5 for extra sukiyaki vegetables. The beef used here came from Hokkaido. It was very tender with very nice marbling on the meat. The vegetables was stewed till soft and flavourful. We enjoyed the beef with Dassai's Sparkling Nigori sake ($10/ cup, $90/bottle).Next we had Assorted Tempura ($20/ pax, $33/ 2-3pax)There was corn, eggplant, pumpkin, mushroom, prawn and white fish. Served with tempura salt. Interesting method of eating. I felt the tempura was bit too oily. Maybe the one I had was at the bottom of the pile. For dessert, we were served watermelon slices so prettily. continue reading

The restaurant itself has a great location, overseeing the river with decent lighting indoors as well as outdoors. There's a number of japanese eateries suddenly sprouting out on boat quay so don't mix them up!A fine lager for a sushi meal, it has a very mild in flavour to me, with a slight aftertaste.1. AppetizerFor appetizers we had Edamame $5.50, Sardine Namban Duke $5.50 as well as a salad.I didn't try the edamame but the sardine was fried and then marinated with a sauce and topped with carrots. The fish could've been crispier. The boiled vegetables were also very tasty, mixed in the sauce.2. Dashi-Maki Eggs $12I liked this japanese style omelette. The omelette itself was fluffy, soft and sweet. I didn't quite get the tiny fishes on the top, as I couldn't taste it either. I would say that these slices of omelette are alot bigger than the ones you would normally get at a sushi bar, but at $12 for 3 pieces. It's really pricey.3. Singapore Roll (Original) $13 small (4 pieces) / $23 medium (8 pieces)Wrapped with crab, avocados, tomatoes, and seasoned with chilli flakes. This was a mild tasting roll. I could barely taste the chilli, but the avocado together with the rice was really nice. Not too sure what is so "Singapore" about this roll though.4. Sashimi combinationThe salmon was fresh and so was the other sashimi. I really really really LOVED THE SCALLOP. It was the best item on the plate! It was so soft, smooth and literally melted in my mouth. A baby with no teeth could totally eat this! (But please don't harm any babies)5. Assorted Tempura $20 (for one person)The tempura batter was crispy and yet light. I tried an ebi (prawn), corn and a mushroom. All were good, but nothing really stood out for me. The tempura comes with a salt mix, that you dip the tempura in. There wasn't really a tempura sauce to dip the tempura in. I just watched as others at the dining table, dipped their tempura into the sushi sauce. Some places that I've had tempura, they were either dripping in oil, or they had a strong smell of oil. These were neither the cases at Taki. I couldn't actually smell the tempura, even when putting it against my nose! Nonetheless, it was still crispy.6. Sukiyaki $10 (for 100 g)The wagyu used here was A4 and the marbling was so pretty! Check out my photos. The beef was juicy and tender. The vegetables in the pot were also very flavourful, as they absorbed all the juices from the beef. I pity non beef eaters.I really loved how the chef put in effort to cut up the watermelon and placed them nicely!Sake, the Japanese alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice. This was a very smooth and light sake. A great way to end our dinner. There's a lot of mediocre product out there billed as "the best." In my experience, very few sushi spots compare to Taki in terms of ambience! The view from the outdoor seats are spectacular, on a cooling evening, it would the ideal place to sit and dine. Otherwise, you can take a table indoors. They have an indoor dining area and a sushi bar counter top that sits a total of maybe 16pax?The waitress is also dressed in a kimono and walks around the serve you your sake or kirin beer.  continue reading
