If you are looking for a place for Indian fine dining, rejoice in the fact that Tandoor Restaurant is back in the game following its recent face-lift (read about my previous review here). Not only has the decor been given a modern and classy revamp, the menu at Tandoor Restaurant, Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, has also been made more refined and delicate while retaining its traditional roots. I was even more impressed with their story telling concept as the waiters took us through the interesting history of each dish.

S and I were invited to sample the Dinner Gourmet Set ($68). If you're not up for the full course, there is a smaller course at $48. Vegetarian options are also available.

We started with the Samosa Chaat, a light puff pastry shell stuffed with potatoes and chickpeas and topped with sweet yogurt and tamarind chutney. I love the creaminess and contrasting flavors of the dressing and was amazed at how light the puff was.

Next, a platter of kebabs. My favorite was the Paneer Chupa Rustom, a potato croquette stuffed with spinach and cottage cheese. It's like a kinder surprise! The minced lean mutton kebab was very flavorful and soft, perfect if you were a toothless Indian king (no kidding, that's how the dish came about).

On to the mains which were served with saffron rice or Naans. The Mango Curry was too addictive, a unique ripe mango curry from the Mangalore region of India. The other dish that i could not stop eating was the Murg Dum A Dum, chicken curry. Best mopped up with the garlic naan.

We ended dinner with a trio of desserts. From the left, the sweetened carrot dessert Gajar Halwa which had the quality of a nutty rice pudding; a Bailey's Kulfi ice cream, and a Rose and Elaichi Panna Cotta.

I have to say that Tandoor Restaurant really impressed us with its new direction. I enjoyed the food a lot better than i did the first time. Even S, who would frown on my Indian meal suggestions, enjoyed his meal and even indicated his willingness to have this again.

Tandoor would be having its Diwali promotion from 15 October to 30 November 2013. Diners will hear intriguing 4-part story of Ramanyana from the wait staff as they feast on the dishes. Specially designed illustrated coasters will also be given to diners who purchase the Gourmet Trail Menus.

The FoodI ordered the Butter and Garlic Naans ($8 each) and Butter Chicken Curry ($28). Both the Naans were very nice with slight crispiness and softness and was so good I could have eaten just on it's own. As for the butter chicken, the chicken pieces were soft and tender submerged in a very thick, creamy, slightly sour, lightly spiced sauce hence very nice and tasty. I dipped the Naans with the curry and very tasty. The PriceA bit expensive at $50++ for the final billOverallI will definitely co

Unfortunately, I do not know the authentic name of these starters .. so I called them the North Indian Chips ;p The larger crescent chips were overwhelmed with black pepper and were very spicy ... Surprisingly they tasted good

Three unidentified condiments to go with the chips ;p I particular love the center condiment which seems like a concentrated sweet jam ~

Well we took the same non-vegetarian food set for SGD55 per person ~ perhaps it's the most money value worth set to us and we are clueless on what to order in the ala carte menu

Here's Tandoori Chicken, Garlic Naan and Tandoori Fish:

This blew us off immediately ... Both meat were very tender and immersed with flavor. This is definitely the most tender North Indian meat that we have eaten so far.

Additional Butter Naan (SGD 8) that we ordered:

The portion was more than we expected and I packed the unfinished ones home

Ooh, by the way, I'm very fortunate to have a group of friends who love flour products especially bread and naan

Masaledar Prawn - Shelled prawns with gravy of kalonji, onion, grated coconut, tomato and black pepper

Butter Chicken - Boneless chicken with gravy of tomato, cashew nut, honey, butter, kasuri methi and garam masala

Classic Mutton Curry - Cubes of lamb with gravy of yoghurt, onion, cloves, cardamon and cinnamon.

Vegetable - Florets of cauliflower, carrots and snow peas sauteed with garlic, chilli, onions and tomatoes

And served with Kesari Pulao - Saffron flavored basmati rice

Yellow Dai Tadka - Yellow Moong lentils tempered in ghee with onions, tomato and red chilli

Though the servings look small, we have had a hard time finishing our food ;p I enjoyed the different types of curries a lot and stuffed my stomach to the maximum ;p The food was rich and smooth yet not spicy~

We called this "Indian Ice-cream" lol ~ All right, we don't know it's authentic name but it's too sweet for us ... I only have a few slips and that's it ~

Service at Tandoor was excellent; the restaurant's official closing hour was at 10.30pm but we stayed to chat since there were other diners around. We left at 11.30pm with the last group of diners and the staff did not even wink an eyelid. They continued with their usual routine for closure and even refilled our water! Whoo la ... this is something that we rarely experience in Singapore and this definitely added on to our good experience in Tandoor.
