Kueh Tu Tu is one of Singapore's traditional snacks and the only times I remember eating these are at pasar malams. To think of it, I don't really see specific stalls just selling kueh tu tu. After learning of the existence of this famous kueh tu tu stall, I went to check it out! It is conveniently located near Clementi station and I bought a packet of 5 pieces, consisting of a mixture of peanut and coconut. The hot piping kueh tu tu is so fragrant and each bite is so shiok! Also, the generous peanut and coconut filling are so thick and chewy! continue reading

Kuih tutu is made by steaming rice flour in a special mould. First the mould is filled with finely pounded flour. Then a portion of the filling is taken out to make space for the filling. This could be grated coconut or ground peanuts or a combination of both. The grated coconut would have been fried on low heat over several hours and sweetened with gula Melaka (palm sugar). Another layer of rice flour is added to seal the filling and the cake tipped over onto a muslin cloth placed on the steamer. The cakes take on the flower-like shape of the mould. Placed on a cut pandanus leaf before serving, they acquire a sweet flavour and scent. The flour is slightly sweetened so the cakes tastes just as good even without filling and are sometimes sold thus.(+) Both the peanuts and coconut fillings are prepared to perfection, not overly sweet.(+) The fresh coconut ingredient being used is 'makan-friendly' for those with sensitive stomach.(+) Thin layer of flour and generous serving of filling.(-) Possibly due to the waiting time before consumption, the surface of the kueh was slightly hardened.(-) A snack that has to preferably be consumed immediately. (Will return to give it another try)Verdict: 6.5/10 continue reading

Food5 for $3 Tu Tu Kueh. Known for its fragrance tu tu coconut cake, it attracts alot of customers every night without fail. There are 2 favours available, the coconut and the peanuts. I have bought 20 Tu Tu Kueh, 10 in each box.I like the way the lady prepared the food, she is responsible and hygienic. She will wipe her hands after collecting money from the customers. I happened to see the way how she prepared the Tu Tu Kuehs. She did a few times of sieving process for the rice flour and then pack some of the flour nicely in the mould, cupped with the ordered fillings, covered up them with a little bit more flour, place them onto a wet cloth and then into the steamer. What I like about her is that she will politely tell her customer that she require some time to prepare them. Even though I have to wait, I'm happy that she has inform us upfront. She has mishandled some Tu Tu Kueh (Chipped off, not wrapped properly after heated) out of the 20 ordered but she kept them and remake some better ones for us. Once you bite on the kueh, the flour is so soft and fine that goes very well with the coconut fillings. Unlike its competitors, what they offered isnt as fine and aromatic as Tan's. Now I have fully comprehend how it becomes so famous. She has did a good job by separating the peanut favours away from the coconut favours in the box for customers to identify. She did inform us too on this arrangement. This is the peanut filling Ku Ku Kueh.ServiceA polite and understanding worker. I'm impressed. I have ordered 20 Tu Tu Kueh but this uncle came in and asked for one TU TU KUEH, the lady offered the TU TU KUEH to the old uncle first and somehow apologise that she has to give him first and emphasize he is an elderly - yes with a smile! AmbienceMost of us will ta bao its tu tu kueh, since its located at a small corner in the coffeeshop.Price$3 for 5 Tu Tu Kueh is the common price across the board.Recommendation / TipsBoth favours are good. Try them out yeah! continue reading

I love eating snacks, i love specially traditional snacks like Tu Tu Kueh, this is a kind of steamed rice cake. And, this one of the most popular stalls selling this simple snack and their Tu Tu Kueh is one of the nicest too. You don't get to find a good one often these days so this stall is definitely worthy of recommendation. You have the grated coconut and coarsely chopped peanuts as fillings to choose from. The sweetness is just right for me. Both fillings are equally nice though my personal favorite is still the grated coconut. You will get 4 pieces for $2.00. There is always a constant queue for this stall but good things come to those who wait. continue reading
