I have been craving for Thai Olive Fried rice for a few days already and finally satisfied my craving during dinner! It is also known as 'Khao Ob Nam Leab' in Thai. Thai Olive Fried rice basically consist of minced chicken and fresh black olive. In Thai Express, there is also a side serving of sliced omelette, cucumbers and sauce. I love the sauce as it brings out the flavour of the fried rice! continue reading

This particular branch of ThaiExpress has a "Bistro" attached to its name and we have no idea why because it's not small and café-like, it's got two levels and serves full meals! As the name suggests, "express" is an overstatement for ThaiExpress chains. Their serving time is notoriously long and this branch is no exception. Being super hungry did not help at all.Though the service is not very friendly and the time taken can be improved by 150%, the food is good, so, okay. The Green Curry was shiok!! It's thick and spicy! The coconut fragrant is strong and sweet! The Beef Glass Noodles was good too! The soup is clear with soft and bouncy glass noodles! The beef is also tender and strong in taste from the spices and herbs! The Chicken was nice too! Crispy and tender! The sauce is HOT though!!If you have a lot of time to spare and not so hungry, you can wait in this ThaiExpress Bistro. continue reading

I was at Tampines shopping for mooncakes and decided to have my dinner at Thai Express. There was no queue at around 6.30pm, I was allocated a seat near the glass window.I ordered one main course, two sides and a drink for dinner.Lemongrass tea $4.90++. This didn't have a strong enough lemongrass taste, its more like a regular ice lemon tea. I should have ordered their new Cold Quenchers.Thai seafood otah $8.30++. This is delish, generous serving of fresh prawns, squid & chunky fish slices in the spicy otah paste...my fave!Stuffed chicken wings $9.30++. At this price tag I expected the stuffing to be either minced meat or mushrooms...but I'm getting just fish paste! The wings were crispy and well marinated though but I'm still unsatisfied with the dish overall.Tom Yum Crayfish glass noodle soup $15.60++. This was good, the broth is spicy and tangy enough...had a whole mid size crayfish and ample serving of grass mushrooms...nice.Service level was alright here, waiting stuffs are prompt but not warm. Food quality here does not match the hefty price tag. For 3 not-so-outstanding dishes and a disappointing drink I paid $44+...totally not worth it! I would rather dine at other Thai restaurants. For full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2013/09/thai-express-bistro-tampines-one.html continue reading

Met up with a few friends for a catch-up session.I ordered Claypot Vermicelli with Soft Shell Crab. It was a bit salty but the soft shell crab was nice!I tried my friend's Olive Rice with Chicken - Where is the chicken meat? Haha... Don't quite like this dish, the olives are not strong enough. Thai Iced TeaI think this was the first time I had Thai Iced Tea. Don't quite like it, think it requires an acquired taste.Although there were some hits and misses here, I will still be back again because of the comfortable setting. continue reading

We arrived near closing time, but the staff very graciously allowed us into the restaurant and served us. I ordered glass noodles tossed in black pepper sauce and topped with soft shelled crab. I liked their soft shell crab, it was crispy and there were quite a bit of crab pieces served in the dish. The only downside is that it is slightly too oily. The glass noodles are tossed in black pepper sauce- while I did not find the black pepper overwhelmingly spicy, I did however felt that the glass noodles had absorbed too much of the sauce and it was slightly too salty for me, especially after a few mouthfuls. continue reading
