Pancakes with Cheese ($12++)
They have a few types, with strawberries, with blueberries or with cheese. I thought the latter was the most unconventional so I decided to try it. Wow, the fragrant smell of the pancakes wafted to my nose before the three big and fluffy were presented right in front of me.
The cheese was stuffed in the pancake batter and it was rich in flavour! But the downside is that it makes you feel full very fast. I stopped at 2 pancakes because of that + I just had to leave some stomach space for the cakes!! Oh and it got a little bit dry afte a while so some maple syrup would come in handy.

Beef BBQ Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($13++)
Triple cheese grilled sandwich filled with smokey BBQ beef brisket
This is a fine example of a sandwich done right. The beef was not too tough, plus the cheese was just ooey gooey and yum! And there, the toast, was nice and crispy! What an all rounder. Well if I had to pinpoint, it would be that they gave a bit too much toast because there were carbs leftover heh.

Strawberry Shortcake ($8.50++)
This was a weekend special so we thought we should order it. Initially I was scared off by the thick layer of cream. But when I sliced my fork through the (very tall) cake, I realise it's actually cream cheese, which was delightfully light! The sinful-ness meter just went down a few notches hah. Frosting aside, the sponge cake was also light and just the right sweetness, and went hand-in-hand with the strawberry cream. Both of us like this cake!

Blueberry Lemon Cake ($8.50++)
Blueberry is my favourite food so I was kinda attracted to this cake. Plus the light blue frosting was so pleasing to the eyes! I know it's just food colouring but I thought the flavour is relatively uncommon so I suggested trying this.
Hmm I thought this cake tasted a bit oiler and sweeter than the first cake. Well ok yeah because of that it was also more moist. But we still prefer the first cake.

Overall, the food is of good quality. I really want to return to try more of their cakes! The ambience became better ever since they converted an alresco-dining style to all indoors in the comfort of airon.
Other Info. : Nice place for brunch and definitely their cakes!

So next to try their beautiful cakes... aiks another disappointment... not as nice as they looked.. we tried 3 dif flavours , their famous red velvet, green tea and lemon.
It's not that spectacular in terms of flavour, the best for us will have to be lemon.. though aint great either.

Finally checked out The Fabulous Baker Boys at the foothills of Fort Canning. I've been meaning to pop by for a while but the lack of air conditioning was a put off and when i finally decided to go, they were closed for a long renovation! Well but guess what, The Fabulous Baker Boys are back, WITH AC! And DAILY BRUNCH! And they take reservations now too (we were chided for not making reservations when we went)! Is that FAB or what?

TFBB Champion Breakfast is a massive plate of food for the hungry. 2 perfectly poached eggs served on a toasted brioche, roasted rosemary potatoes, garlicky mushrooms, swirly sage chicken sausage and a side of beef bacon. Honestly how do you finish this?! What i was more curious about was they perfect such nice egg spheres. The sauce was not explosive to be honest but the whole combination was very comforting. Nice starchy potato cubes that are crispy at the skin. The beef bacon taste like savory bak kwa.

The hot favorite was the 3 Cheese Pancake made using Cheddar, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. This was cheesy and mushy in an awesome way and even had a slightly crispy exterior. The combination with the sweet maple was a match made in heaven. Who knew.

Chili Crab Mac & Cheese ($18) made with mini elbow macaroni tossed in a cheesy béchamel, with lumps of chilli crab meat and topped with herbed Panko (japanese breadcrumbs). The flavors were not spectacularly robust but anything more would have worked in its disadvantage. Great savory dish that was devoured within minutes. I would have preferred a bigger macaroni though.
Ju's Prawn Pasta ($20) is a tiger prawn pappardelle cooked in a secret crustacean cream. I thought the sauce was heavy on cream but too light on the seasoning so there was an oily mouthful without the appropriate flavors.
Now back to the cakes! We were sufficiently stuffed but couldn't resist these sweet treats. Prices are $8 upwards.
We settled for the Apple Cider Cake which was deliciously moist and light tasting. The Red Velvet Cake with Valrhona chocolate frosting ($9) was just so so for me, so was the Iced Latte ($5.40).

We enjoyed the food at The Fabulous Baker Boy. Fab food but the service was no where near fab. They had problems with our big group (we also had 2 kids with us), my additional side order of eggs and even with the kids. I only discounted the bad service because i was too engrossed with my pancakes but honestly they really need to work on their service. The young girl (probably a part timer) was way more helpful to us than the men.

So yea, decent brunch spot but snotty service by the dudes. Head there if you can take that attitude.

I decided to order a slice of the Red Velvet ($9) and they were so nice! I only tried Red Velvet cupcakes but they are quite similar in terms of appearance and taste (somewhat). I love the fact that the slice of cake is littered with little hearts. So cute. Anyway the cake is really dense with layers of cream cheese in between the cake layers and a layer of chocolate. Not a chocolate lover but the cake just blows me away.

Shall organize an outing there soon with my friends to satisfy my cake cravings!

I would gladly return for their food but definitely not their coffee!! In fact, I would strongly recommend this place for dinner especially as its location at the Foothills makes the place a great chill-out place with all the greenery around.

Went on a hot Saturday afternoon, that was the first mistake. The seatings here are mostly alfresco with limited indoor seats. So I could really feel the warmth and humidity around but not to the extent that I was sweating away. Okay, second mistake, I did not make a reservation. It could have been a long wait but thank God, it was only me and my friend so we were given a table for two persons provided we leave within an hour before the party who had reserved it turned up.

Third mistake, I should not have ordered their coffee. I had the worst cappuccino I ever had (even the mediocre Starbucks can afford to serve even better coffee) while my friend was also unfortunate enough to have his worst Iced Long Black ever. However, on the other hand, having said all the above (perhaps it might have sounded a bit harsh
), I think their food was quite fabulous hehe

Had the Egg Benedict ($11) and it was really good! The poached eggs were done just nice like the way it should be. I was pretty impressed at how round the eggs looked haha.. I don't remember eating Egg Benedict of which its shape could stay so round and formed

Did not stay for their cakes but heard it was really not bad,, but I honestly perhaps the pricing for the cakes is a bit at the steep side ><

Conclusion: Food is good, slightly pricey though. Go in the evening if you could not stand hot humid weather like me. And forget about their coffee indeed

We decided to drop by Fabulous BakerBoy for some cakes after brunch on a Sunday as we were nearby. We had their famous Red Velvet, which I found better than average, but I'm not really a fan of red velvet cakes; would've preferred a stronger cream cheese taste though. I noticed many people having their eggs benedict and tuna melts, which looked very appetizing, and reasonably priced at $11+ or so. Would be there to try them next.

A wide selection of various beautifully created layered cakes are on display every single day and you will definitely see The Fabulous Baker Boy himself, owner- Juwanda Hassim, working his magic at the semi open concept kitchen, cutting a cake he had just baked or preparing for his next baking project. A very passionate baker who first started his business from the kitchen of his home, he has certainly come a long way since then with this cafe right here.

Cake choices include the usual hot favourites of Red Velvet and Carrot Cake, and with more exotic flavours like Salted Caramel, Spiced Apple Cake or Green Tea Praline, it is almost assured that you will be spoilt for choice especially when everything looks so decadent, delicious and lush.

We came here on a Sunday, the only day that TFBB offers brunch and this newly opened cafe with a relatively unknown location was packed! Seems like the secret is out and everyone has flocked to the place with great food and cakes.

A starter of Garlic Fries with Truffle Aioli first arrived and while it looked quite ordinary, the strong garlic smell was indeed appetising enough to whet an appetite. These batons of golden brown fried potatoes were not oily, seasoned right with just enough garlic bits and salt and simply a winner when dipped into that truffle aioli served at the side.

Towkay Ng’s Eggs Benedict with Sauteed Spinach and Roasted Potatoes was full marks on presentation. Loved the roasted cut potatoes on the plate that were browned crisp with their skins still on and soft on the insides as well as the full bodied Hollandaise sauce. The poached eggs unfortunately were a little overdone and did not flow when we cut through it while the spinach too was quite limp with a tinge of bitterness.

The Tuna Melt on the other hand is a must order here. It is dolphin-free tuna blended with aioli, mixed with sweet relish and grain mustard sitting on baguette. The melted cheese from the baking of the baguette lent an overall creamy texture to it, complementing and contrasting the crispness of the bread. And the sliced caramelised onions were simply the icing on the cake with its sweet, deep, rich flavours that pulled out some really great tastes and textures in this seemingly simple open-faced sandwich.

Moving onto the cakes, the Red Velvet Cake was the BEST Red Velvet Cake EVER! Moist, delicious, with subtle hints of cocoa powder, rich cream cheese frosting and the beautiful deep red colour. It is pure joy as you fork through that very fluffy cake and put a bit of those four layers into your mouth! Absolute decadence and indulgence. You are so missing out if you do not get a taste of this velvety goodness.

With beautiful rich cakes, good coffee, savory menu offerings and an excellent location to boot, The Fabulous Baker Boy certainly has the recipe for success. It is obvious that its good name has already spread quite the distance with the crowds of people filling up the place.

We were so excited that we started with the desserts immediately. hehe. greedy max! the red velvet cake is definitely one popular dessert here that you HAVE TO ORDER! we heard the table next to us enquiring with the waitress whether it was available and just to make sure, they asked, “It’s not going to run out anytime soon right?” and it was just half an hour after they opened
got an idea of how popular it is already? ^^ stacked high with layers of moist cake and light buttermilk icing in between and slathered with a thick layer of chocolate on top. it is absolutely decadent and it’s almost addictive as you shovel it into your mouth again and again

the salted caramel cake was a delight as well! there is a subtle flavour of the salted caramel that hits you as you take the first mouthful and then it disappears, melting into a dense chocolate-y goodness.

i really enjoyed the spiced apple cider pancakes ($8.50)! there are quite a number of varieties of pancakes for you to chose from and it was not an easy task deciding ;) i liked how moist it was on the inside! it contrasted nicely with the crispy, slightly burnt exterior which lent a smokey aroma to it. it truly tastes like homemade pancakes which is something i appreciated
i loved how there were slices of boiled apple within as well!

since the festive season is nearing, we decided to order the Xmas special sandwich ($10). it consisted of cured turkey breast with caramelized onions, a bed of mesclun salad, a slice of Edam cheese and cranberry jelly (which i found really interesting!) in a crusty Foccacia. i felt that the bread was a little too tough for my liking, and it was slightly cold.

on the other hand, i absolutely LOVED the tuna melt sandwich ($11). you have got to order it!!!! a baguette topped with dolphin-free tuna (i have no idea what that means), caramelized onions, aioli, sweet relish and mustard sauce and oozy melty cheese. ohhhhh so good. im in love with this ♥.♥ it was served warm and the tuna was so flavourful, whilst the cheese pulled all the aromas together and sealed the deal for me.

i was initially really excited for the beef guinness pie ($16), and i’d say that it looked pretty good, but i felt that the flavour was rather lacking! it didnt smell as good as expected, and the beef didnt seem to absorb the juices of the sauce sufficiently, resulting in it being rather detached in terms of flavour and slightly tough. i heard the house cottage pie was not too bad though, maybe you wanna try that!
i’m so coming back here for more cakes (there were a lot more i wanted to try!!!) and the tuna melt ^^

Not known to many of the younger Singaporeans, the very spot where the cafe stands used to be the canteen of the former River Valley Swimming Complex. The cafe conserved the wall and floor mosaic tiles from its nostalgic 1970’s.

Bulk of the cafe sitting spaces are outdoors which makes it quite a 'hot' chill out place during the day. This was really a pity because I really loved how they spruce up the area with recycled pellets and the bright pink chairs. Nevertheless, I know where to bring my BFFs for post dinner coffee and cakes.

For those who can't take the blazing noon time heat (like me), you either have to call and reserve your table a few days in advance or keep your fingers cross. There are 2 table tops and a long side table in the air-conditioned area. Thankfully, we managed to secure one of the round tables. Overheard the owner sharing with his other customers that the kitchen behind the 'Keep Calm' wall used to be the swimming pools male changing room. What an incredible change of use!

The staffs were amazingly friendly and attentive. Coffee & tea were promptly served within minutes after we have made our orders. That's my cappuccino.

Both our orders were served together. Great job on the service! That's my friend's order of TFBB Champion Breakfast ($23.00) - a really heavy brekkie which consist of 2 poached eggs served on a toasted brioche, roasted rosemary potatoes, garlicky mushrooms, swirly sage chicken sausage and 2 chicken chipolata (to replace a side of beef bacon as he does not take beef). Despite his usual big appetite, he did not manage to clear his plate. The portion was just too huge.

I opted for Towkay Ng’s Egg Benedict ($11.50). Not sure why I kept calling it Towkay Neo, was there a Mediacorp drama with Towkay Neo previously? Anyway, mine was a much smaller breakfast with 2 poached eggs served on a toasted brioche, sauteed spinach, roasted rosemary potatoes and an Italian version of a Hollandaise. The treatment of the eggs was perfect but I am not that excited about Italian Hollandaise. It's a significantly watered down version of the original hollandaise, doesn't taste as sinful. As much as we would love to try Today's Special, our stomach had absolutely no more room for more.

Still, we went over to their cakes counter to check out their offerings. The Ab Fab Red Velvet Cake (Single $9.00, Whole 9" $90.00, Cupcakes (by the dozen) $4.50) looks absolutely stunning! Plus they use only valrhona chocolates to bake it.

Their Green Tea Almond Praline (Single $7.50, Whole $75.00, Cupcake (by the dozen) $4.50) -an almond praline butter torte is filled and covered with a delicious swiss meringue Macha butter cream looks equally desirable.

Thanks for making my weekends fabulous, baker boy!

We ordered the red velvet and carrot cake, both cakes were good but when compared with one another, the carrot cake stands out! I guess the addition of cranberry and coconut makes it especially good! We felt like we can eat another of it! The red velvet cake, coated with chocolate instead of cream cheese, is so full of flavour, worth a try as well!

For food, we had the Tuna Melt for $11, which I suppose is more suitable for appetizers or group bites as it comes in 6 big pieces. Mixed it with tabasco sauce, and it is even better! Also had the Towkay Ng's Egg Benedict for $10.50, adding Mexican Chicken Sausages for $4. Runny egg yolk, but sausages and potatoes are just average. We did not get the desserts, but it does seems appetizing

Was around the area when my friend and I decided to drop by The Fabulous Baker Boy for some cakes as dessert. Prior to that we already heard a lot about this place so since we are around the vicinity, so why not just drop by and take a look? I like the environment of this place - very relaxing and cosy, makes one very sleepy especially after overloading all the sugar from the cake. Anyways, I ordered the red velvet cake for myself. Am glad that I made the correct choice! This is one of the best

I like the environment of this place - very relaxing and cosy, makes one very sleepy especially after overloading all the sugar from the cake. Anyways, I ordered the red velvet cake for myself. Am glad that I made the correct choice! This is one of the best red velvet cake I've had. The texture is smooth, not too heavy, the cake is moist and the cream cheese tasted just nice! It is surprisingly not too sweet too. My friend have the carrot cake and it tasted just as awesome as mine. Though the cake is a bit pricey, I am still happy to pay for it for it's quality and cozy environment.

I really like the place of the cafe nested within the park and really cosy. However the weather was a tad too hot even thought the place have some fans. I think it was be nice at night. I ordered the Red Velvet cake, it was soft and creamy with the cream cheese. The reason why it was lying down cause it couldn't stand. I would say the taste was average, however, I was surprised that I can finish all cause the cake was not too heavy cause of the light texture. Try is and rate it for yourself. I will try the sugee cake the next time I am there.

Just look at all those cakes on the cake stands. So tempting! FYI, these were not all that they were serving, there were some more cakes in the fridge so do check out their fridge as well when you are there!

Big Lub's Carrot Cake - can't remember the price

This was our favourite. I like how it is full of raisins, dried fruits and nuts! It is like eating an energy bar but a moist cake version. I thought everything, from the coconut slices to the cream cheese frosting was just nice and complement each other so well.

Green Tea Cake with Almond Praline - $7.50

The green tea butter cream was so good that Yong Lin couldn't stop eating it and the butter torte was so fluffly!

Ab Fab Red Velvet Cake - $8.50

I would say that their red velvet cake hit the spot but Vanessa and Yong Lin think otherwise. They commented that the cake tastes normal to them. Then again, it is a personal preference.

I wouldn't mind going back again for their cakes or even try their lunch/dinner menu items. The place is pretty laid back and good for catching up with friends over delectable desserts.
