The Handburger is one of the stalls under the concept of Soup Spoon Union located in Raffles City Shopping Centre. The concept is not the usual "Order and Pay later" system in most restaurants, instead they did it the reverse with ordering and payment at the same counter.

Once your order is ready, the buzzer will set off and you have to collect your food at the respective counters.

The Handburger practices the healthy living where by the handcrafted burgers includes grilled 100% grass-fed prime beef patties and portobello mushroom sandwiched in wholewheat brioche buns.

I had The Works containing cheese, mushroom, sunny side up egg, juicy thick cuts of tomatoes, handpicked butterhead lettuce and 100% grass-fed prime beef patty grilled to perfection. Making them a meal gives me an option of drink and choice of sides.

The Works - $15.90 / Set

If you knows about Soup Spoon and had tried their soups, this Velvety Mushroom Straganoff should be of no stranger to you. Its stomach filling hot chunky mushroom soups is tastily great item to pair with the meal.

The choice of drink was pretty interesting. Besides having the home brewed Iced Lemon tea, we have the Hibiscus and Sugar-Free Sakura Sencha.

The healthy combination of chicken breast, portobello, cheese and honey mustard for the burger. Though the mushroom looked abit on the dry side, the overall taste was just not too bad.

Another interesting item on the menu will be the Union Sampler that gives diner a petite caesar salad and two petitie mains - a soup and slider. The items was served on a wooden serving board that was tailored make to put both the plate and bowl into the sunken slot.

Union Sampler - $12.50

The original Slider was bite size, perhaps a few bites and you could have done with the burger. It consist of beef, cheese, grilled onions and honey mustard.

Fresh greens with bacon bits, dried cranberries and croutons and vegetables were dressed lightly in its cream sauce.

Overall, I like the concept as more choice are available apart from the usual Soup Spoon, however in terms of quality and standards, its quite of an average fare.

The Soup Spoon Union brings together the best of The Soup Soon, The Handburger and Soup Broth Asia Noodle Bar in a single, integrated menu. The signature item on this menu would be the Union Sampler, which allows the diner to, indeed, sample the best of what the three brands have to offer, in bite-sized portions of each dish. To accompany a Caesar Salad, choose two from a range of noodles, pot pies and sliders. The variety is indeed unbeatable, and you can customize your meal based on your mood.

To accompany a Caesar Salad, choose two from a range of noodles, pot pies and sliders. The variety is indeed unbeatable, and you can customize your meal based on your mood. We chose the Kimchi Beef Ramen and Boston Clam Chowder Pot Pie, and both were satisfactory, even if not superb. I guess the highlight of dining here is the variety of items on offer, rather than the quality of the food itself.

We also had a Chicken Cajun Cordon Bleu burger from the Handburger section, and a side of Lamb & Pork Sausage Meatballs added on for SGD 4 to the Union Sampler.

The Cordon Bleu burger was immense and wholly satisfying, with a thick slab of stuffed chicken topped with what I believe to be a huge portobello mushroom. Lip-smacking goodness defined. The meatballs fared poorer though, as they were relatively small in portion and lacked flavour. The accompanying gravy was rich and creamy though.

Have been wanting to try their Hainanese Fish Maw Noodles because it looks like such nice comforting food. There were fish slices, fish maw, Chinese mushrooms, leeks and carrot. It was ok but not fantastic - it tasted like everything was cooked separately then cooked together for a few minutes in the soup. It lacked the nice homecooked feel to it and it's definitely not worth the price.

Vietnamese Braised Chicken Noodles is served in quite a big plate. It looks like crispy fried noodles on egg flower sauce, topped with a huge grilled chicken leg. Kind of reminding me of typical ‘shen mian’ by the zhi char stalls. The chicken is quite tender with the meat easily tears from the bone. The only disappointing is the sauce which is very salty and gluey.

The Side Salad is served with the dressing separated. Tastes quite green on itself. When mixed with the dressing, it tastes quite tangy and refreshing with hint of fish sauce and lime juice.

The Iced Milk Tea is quite forgettable as it is not milky as I would prefer.

Overall the food is still not bad, and served quite fast too.

Second place your order at the cashier counters in the center of the restaurant. Only cash and NETS payment available. Prices of items include 7% GST, but not 10% service charge.
Third food will be served to you at your table using the table tracker number given. So remember to place the table tracker number on the table.

The Union's SouperBreakfast($16.80+) ~ Fuel your day with the full works - spicy bratwurst sausage, your choice of eggs (sunny side up or sous vide), house baked beans with bacon bits, sautéed button mushrooms and fried back bacon served with fluffy brioche toast.

I have mine with eggs in sous vide version, which just tastes like half boiled eggs. The spicy bratwurst sausage is quite big and juicy. The sautéed button mushrooms looks a bit too black, not sure if it is a sign of unfresh mushroom, but tastes not bad. The toast is soft and fluffy, that I would like another piece.

I also order the Luxurious Red Velvet Waffles ($14.80+) ~ Decadent and fluffy red velvet waffles dusted with icing sugar and topped with caramelised bananas, elderflower-infused mascarpone and honey.. However it is quite a disappointing dish as the waffle does not taste crispy, nor fluffly. I think they also trying to make it taste chewy, which causes it to end up tasting rather flat. But the elderflower-infused mascarpone is the saving grace, makes the dish more tasty a bit.

For drinks, I have the Hot Chocolate($4.50+), which tastes quite thick, but a bit disappointed by the lumps of chocolate at the bottom of cup.

Mom has the the Earl Grey Lavender($4.50+), which has a hint of Lavender taste without been overpowering.

All the dishes are served quite fast except for the waffles which needs to wait 15minutes and the staff has taken note to inform us about it. Overall food is not bad, but can get pretty crowded during lunch hour. Just find a table first, a staff would soon come along to clear it.

The restaurant boosts a combined menu with an infographic at the back which explains how you go about ordering your food. I ordered 2 slider burgers ($3.50 each) – Battered Dory and Caesar Chicken and one Mocha ($4.80). After placing my order at the cashier, I am handed this disc-like thing to be placed on the table. I thought I will collect my food once it starts blinking because it is an electronic device but the food was served to me. Hmm.

I tried the Chicken Cesar but decided to order it again for my sister to try since I thought it was nice. I like the burgers as they are toasted with butter and cheese at the undersides. Really yummy. It is a bit messy when eating this mini version of the Handburger. Its over in a few mouthfuls but it is good if you do not want a full meal.

The Mocha came in a cup which I thought looked pretty cool but it looks like it has seen better days. Anyway I was a bit disappointed cause I thought there would be some cool latte art like what was featured on the menu but didn’t have any. Still. The coffee is served lukewarm. Nothing to rave about.

Overall I like the restaurant concept and would definitely return for a mix of soups, burgers and noodles. There is also no service charge and for the nice ambience, why not?

Adding on to that, the ultimate disappointment was with the Chicken Pho. The soup was plain, nothing whatsoever was nice about it. Had the hot Vietnamese Drip coffee add-on with the noodles, again, it was a disappointment too. The coffee was not strong at all. The cup looked cute, but the coffee was a no-no. I rather spend on buying kopi from Yakun.

In conclusion, I am disappointed with the new Farmer's Brunch menu. I don't think I would want to try the other food items in the menu anymore although my sweet tooth is calling me to try out the RedVelvet Waffles. I guess it would be better to just stick with the soups instead.
