FoodIt caught me by surprise to see Tavern Pub & Restaurant on groupon! Since I had a wonderful lunch during my last visit and we love this place alot, without much hesitation I bought a "$29.90 for 3-Course Fine Dining Set Lunch at The Tavern Pub & Restaurant (Worth $80). " for two person. It's a steal as the original lunch meal set costs $60.00 for each person. Here's my hearty and savoury 3 courses meal x 2.Hot breads were served while waiting for our main courses. Comes with a frozen butter/margarine and olive oil.The Choice of appetizer are Greenland Shrimps 'Calypso' with Crunchy Green Mango OR Soup of the Day and we have both.A little bit spicy wasabi taste like prawns paired with cherry tomatoes, slices of big tomatoes, cucumbers and some mangoes over it. It's awesome as a start!Soup of the day is cauliflower soup. It tastes light, not too creamy and too vegetable and definitely suits our liking. The given choice of main course areChoice of Main Course1) Grilled Australian Black Angus Ribeye Steak with Gratin Potato and Vegetables of the Day OR2) Chicken Cordon Bleu with French Fries and Crisp Mixed Salad OR3) Panfried Norwegian Salmon Fillet with Boiled Potato and Vegetables of the Day and we have chosen the Ribeye steak and Salmon Fillet. My portion of panfried Norwegian salmon fillet was well done. It is definitely worth waiting for! The taste and crisp at the outer layer tastes just alright and with the right amount of sweet lemon sauce adds ,my meal was make so complete.Choice of beef is medium done as requested. This piece of ribeye was well cooked - tender and chewy. There is no issues cutting the meat apart with little force. Meat was juicy and taste are even. Simply divine!Choice of desserts are 1) Crepe Normande OR2) Chestnut Parfait Crepe Normade is savoury. Diced tart apples were tuck in between the crepe. Also the crepe is covered with some lines of caramel designed by the chef. The chocolate chip vanilla ice cream makes a perfect combination together with the crepe.Even the lovely strawberry was designed, cut nicely and placed nicely at the side of the plate. The Chestnut Parfait looks like strawberry over a piece of luncheon meat. Taste is light and not overpowering. Tea and coffee as dessert. Their tea and coffee tastes different. Besides the usual little cup of condense milk a restaurant to pair with the hot beverages. They also provide sugars cubes which were rarely seen in most restaurant nowadays. ServiceReservation were made easy via phone call with no hiccups. The waiter were smartly dressed in suits. What impressed me most is that even we have dine in at special rates, our service was not discounted. They are still as professional as the good normal days.AmbienceGreat romantic meals under the warmly lit lightings in a gorgeous restaurant styled like a cosy European dining room.PriceSince this is a groupon deal, it's a steal and it will be a very good chance who wants to do fine dinning at half the original price.Recommendations / TipsReservations to be make before dinning. continue reading

The Tavern Restaurant , located along the shophouse of River valley road, offers Swiss & Continental cuisine. It has been there for 6years! The Tavern is a resturant well-known for it’s excellent Traditional European food and of course it is one of the restuarant that the rich and famous would frequent. However or sadly, I am not one of them. The decor of the interior adopts a Traditional style and ambience. They divide the restaurant into 2 to occupy more tables. The cosy restaurant seats 100 persons and has a private rooms on the second level that is usually used for private functions. The menu is not printed in a form of a menu booklet but instead, the dishes are written on a chalkboard where the service staff would push the menu board over to you to have a look. Starters, mains and desserts are written on different chalkboard thus it makes it easier for reference and placing orders. I personally feel that the dishes are priced on the higher side (even more ex than other popular restaurants) . The starters are priced $18 and above thus expect to pay around $50 per person here. They do offer a 1 for 1 set lunch ( for DBS / POSB Credit card holders) priced at $60++. I would strongly recommend to go for the set lunch as it is much more worth it . I believe that it is the quality that matters and thus if you don’t mind forking out extra $ , order some of their signature dishes. The restaurant signature dishes are Pan fried goose liver ( Foie gras), scallop carpaccio and the Raclette cheese. 1/2 dozen Escargots ($16.50++)Definitely one of the best I’ve tried so far. The escragots ( snails) are cooked with their home-made garlic butter and baked till perfection. The home-made garlic butter smells fragrant and they added some minced onions to it. The escargots are huge , meaty and succulent!Stuffed Portobello mushrooms ($18++)The portobello mushrooms serve as a light appetitizer. 2 portobello mushrooms topped with fresh carbmeat (crab leg), cubes of carrots , minced onions light mayonnaise dressing and finish off with pesto sauce. The crabmeat was fresh and sweet and they were pretty generous with the crabmeat. Portobello mushrooms were juicy but I find the size a little too petite.Verdict: Other than the pricey factor, there is no reason why I should not make a return. The food is good, service is good, ambience is good but the price… not very good ! continue reading
