I spent my breakfast time at this hawker center located in tiong bahru just to try out the famous 178 lor Mee and hua yuen porridge. However, the Lor Mee was not impressive and not my like. The fish porridge was just ordinary and mediocre. I tried also the carrot cake from one of the stall which taste normal too. The place was full of folks who I believed they are staying nearby the area. The center is in round structure which you can walk through one round before you decide what to eat.

Hwa Yuen porridge has been whipping up bowls of fragrance porridges for the past 50 over years. They have somehow almost perfect the skills in cooking good porridge. The porridge was silky smooth and can take on the challenge to any of the hotel or restaurant standard in Singapore. Though Hwa Yuen porridge is plain in look when served, just some spring onion drizzled over the porridge with fried vermicelli as the topping and garnishing, of course, with the choice of fish slices, pork, fried intestines or mixed pig organs added into the porridge during cooking. However, the porridge practically do not require adding further seasoning like soy sauce or sesame sauce to enhance the taste, the porridge was exceptionally sumptuous and fantastic in taste, we love the silky smooth texture and the taste which make you yearning for more. Tiong Bahru Hwa Yuen Porridge has been around the corner since... I don't know when. Was glad that after Tiong Bahru Market is renovated and the stall is still around. Ordered my usual pork porridge for my morning breakfast and I am happy that the standard is still there in a way, cos I remember it used to be better. Think it is because they changed the head cook (used to be a old uncle I think...) Not as bad, the porridge is silky and the pork slices/minced given is generous.

After all the chinese new year goodies, I wanted something lighter and healthier so I decided on porridge for lunch. This stall is quite famous as seen from the queue. There are a few types of porridge and I decided on the pork porridge. The porridge is quite smooth and I love the texture as well as the flavour of the porridge. The meat given was not a lot, but the meat is also quite well seasoned, so you do not need to add anymore sauce to the meat or porridge. Overall, it is quite good, but I probably will not queue for it if it requires me to wait for 10minutes or more.

Porridge and steamboat go best during rainy days. Was feeling full that night so my friends and I decided to settle our dinner at Tiong Bahru Market and I choose to go with the famous Hwa Yuen Porridge to satisfy my craving.Didn't know they are having their set promotion - a bowl of Century Egg with Shredded Chicken porridge and Raw Fish slice for $4.50. Order this since both are my favorite and thankfully it turns out awesome for me. I like how the porridge is cooked for hours and how flavorful it is. The raw fish is fresh and no fishy smell (major plus point for me) and I can just eat raw like that without 'dipping' it in to the hot porridge.
