A must order right here if you come to have porridge got to be the braised tofu. The tofu is nicely braised using the braised sauce then topped with dried shallots and spring onions before served. The texture of the tofu is nicely soft and smooth. It goes so well with any type of porridge. The taste can be further enhanced by dipping in the special chilli provided but i would very much like to go without it.

This pot of fragrant frog legs is one of my main reason why I have patrolling this stall for more than two years already. The frog meat is very tender and juicy, and with the different types of seasoning added to it, make the taste really good and goes well with plain rice and porridge as well. The price is also consider quite reasonable as well and you may want to order other side dishes to go along with this delicious dish as well... yummy!

I like the sauce of the frog and i will use it to scoop to the porridge! The sauce is with black sauce and there's vegetable inside to mix the taste together. From the claypot, you can see it is using traditional style to cook them, therefore it taste nicer than normal kind. They are also good, willing to give us more fried garlic when requested. The chicken feet is also nice, chewy and delicious with the sauce! And all of these worth its price!

I love the first bite of their raw fish, it was fresh, tastes was good, it tossed with spring onion, fried onion and chilli were perfectly accomplished. Frog leg swam in a pool of dark sauce, the meat was springy, sauce tasted right, one would just forget about the look of a live frog and kept sink their teeth into such lovely meat. I like their plain porridge though, right consistency and price is only S$0.6.

If you happen to be in town and looking for a comforting bowl of porridge then this is a good place to be considered. Highly recommended.

Tiong Shian is a very popular supper place around Chinatown and cars and people can always be seen clustered around the corner coffeeshop even at 11pm. There isn't much to eat around Chinatown at night so hubby and I often go to Tiong Shian for dinner after he knocks off work at 10pm. If you're driving, I will wish you good luck because parking is horrible but you can try parking behind the building in the alley. If not, there's always chinatown market's carpark or temple street. Getting a seat is just as hard as getting parking there honestly. So you may have to wait a while to get a seat even late at night!

Since I don't eat chinese sashimi (raw fish), I usually love to order their pork porridge with century egg. The portion is HUGE and is sure to fill you up. Many a times I am unable to finish the porridge which is rare for me.

They are also famous for their frog leg porridge which I tried for the first time recently. I've never actually eaten frog leg before so it was quite an exciting experience. The frog leg was tender and taste like crab meat from the pincers of a good big sri lankan mud crab! It was chewy but delicious! The porridge was also nice and light. Very different from their pork congees.

There is also a bbq chicken wing stall that sells many other side dishes to go along with your porridge. Tiong Shian actually does a variety of other dishes apart from porridge as well so it's worth exploring.

I have tried a stall near the ever popular Kwam Im Temple at Waterloo Road, a small stall by an old couple selling 3 types of porridges and raw fish. The tastes was really good, raw fish was fresh but fish slices were precious too.

The second stall I have tried was at Tanjong Pagar market, there are at least 2 porridge stalls selling raw fish. I tried that one was at the middle roll. Fish slices contained small bones quite often, so it affects the overall quality.

Another stall at Maxwell market, it was fine though.

The best among them was this one at Chinatown, no wander there were crowds whenever I passed by. It has even more packed during dinner time. We were there around lunch time at Saturday, it wasn't too many dinners though.

The next day I went there again with other friends and it was dinner, we ordered the same food, this round I found that the raw fish wasn't as fresh as in the afternoon, thought it was fresh enough to serve as raw fish. The rest of the dishes were maintained its quantity.

I bought their raw fish and plain porridge again on last Saturday afternoon. It was good too.

I'm not an ardent fan to pair raw fish with porridge.Yes, they do serve raw fish (marinated w sesame oil & seasoning) along with their porridge. The stall gets more crowded as night falls.Their porridge are rather simple and I find nothing special.I guess i'm a more 'Teochew' porridge guy.Oh yes! They charge GST on top of the foodie price.
